Overall Experience

My aunt and her friend both stayed here for 3 and 6 years respectively, and I think they had really first-class care at this home. The atmosphere was always homely, and the gardens were beautiful and well-kept. They made extra effort with their new Covid Pod in the latter days of Covid to ensure people got to see their loved ones in those hard times. They were very cautious on the whole and had no casualties from Covid. Most importantly all the staff showed consistent compassion and kindness to the residents, and they always seemed happy and at home there. We were always kept well informed of their health and needs and they displayed great professionalism. We can highly recommend this place to others. Thank you!

Thank you, Matthew. Your aunt and her friend were both strong-minded ladies, who were very close friends for almost all their life. It was nice to see you at the funeral, as she was like a member of your family. We will all remember them both always.

My aunt resided in St Theresa's Rest Home for the last three months of her life, and I wish we had found it sooner - she had advanced dementia. The management and staff were truly amazing. Before my aunt went into the care home, she was not walking or eating properly, and they promised to do their best to get her mobile and eat again with the care and help from staff, they achieved this. On many of our visits, we found the staff informative and caring and also updated us on her progress. She settled in quickly and enjoyed her surroundings, which were very homely. Just wished she had long here.

Very friendly home, with experienced and caring staff. Very clean and no unpleasant smells. Food home cooked, which is very appetising. Always consulted on resident's care and medical help, contacted when necessary. They have activities to stimulate their residents, as well as television and music.

My dad has been living at St Theresa’s for a year this week. It is the perfect home from home for him with its cosy surroundings and beautiful garden. He enjoys his meals, which are varied and cooked fresh on the premises. He often tells me how well-looked after he is and how friendly all the staff are. From my point of view, the management and staff make this rest home the best place for my dad with their dedication and caring attitude helping him to settle in, be restored to health and make new friends. I know that there is always someone available to talk to if I need some advice. I would have no hesitation recommending St Theresa's to anyone looking for the perfect place for their loved one who is unable to live on their own anymore.

My mother is a resident of St Theresa's Rest Home. She was previously with a larger cooperate care home which did not suit her needs. Mum is much happier at St Theresa's, and as Mum is suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's, it was important to ensure Mum was living in a calm, peaceful environment, which this home definitely provides. Being smaller and run with a permanent staff base and not lots of different agency workers, this gives Mum the familiarity of carers and helps make her feel safe. The staff are all very caring and attentive. The home is well-run and friendly. We can call any time to discuss Mum's welfare and have had no difficulty securing appointments to visit regularly. Mum enjoys the food and is well-fed. Mum is diabetic, and therefore, requires daily insulin and checks, which are provided by the district nurse, and the GP is also very accessible for any additional medical concerns. Mum is also appropriately dressed and clean. We are very happy with Mum's placement.

My mum was a resident for nearly two years. When Mum went to St Theresa's, she was discharged from the hospital and was very poorly with dementia and frail, but the manager and her staff were amazing. My mum looks fabulous and well, had gained some weight all from the efforts and dedication they gave Mum, also myself, my sister and brother were very much assured of how my mum was going to be looked after because we had struggled to accept that Mum needed professional care, and they also supported us as well. When we visited, Mum was always clean and well fed, and we were always updated if needed and also any questions needed answering. They were amazing. St Theresa's looked after Mum brilliantly, and myself and my siblings have said that we were so lucky to have found St Theresa's. Please do not hesitate to give them and call and go there for yourself - you won't be disappointed.

My mother has been a resident at St Theresa's for nearly fifteen years, and she is now approaching her 101st birthday. She was admitted to the home straight from the hospital, and I can't fault the care that she has been receiving. The environment is homely and welcoming, and the managers and staff are always friendly and approachable. Activities are arranged, and residents are encouraged to take part in them. The food is home-cooked and always smells appetising. Everyone is very considerate of my mother's needs, and her dignity is maintained. Mum always looks clean and well cared for. I am so pleased that there was a vacancy at St Theresa's when I was looking for a care home for her.

Thank you, Gill, for your comments.

Your mum will celebrate her 101st birthday within a month. She is still going strong, although her knitting skills have diminished over the 15 years she has been with us. We are confident that she will beat our current record, which is 104 for a resident at St Theresa's.

Overall Experience

The care and support provided for my elderly relative have been wonderful. He has been living at the home for over 10 years, during which time his mental capacity has declined, but he has remained very well physically. This is largely due to the care and attention he receives from the carers, who know him and his needs very well and looks after him with compassion and care. During the worst times of the Covid pandemic and lockdown, when rigorous safety measures were successfully introduced to protect the residents, the manager of the home ensured that I was kept in touch regularly with how my relative was doing as I was not able to visit as often as I had done. His care plan is updated every month, and all medical and welfare matters are dealt with very efficiently. The care home is very comfortable and has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in which my relative feels safe in a secure environment. He is happy and calm, largely due to the positive, warm and caring approach of the whole team.

Reply from Mrs Paul, Registered Manager at St Theresa's Rest Home

Thank you, Nigel, for your kind words. Your relative settled in quickly; he felt he was just moving home, as our building is a large house on a residential road. His airforce discipline and his enthusiasm for taking part in activities have helped contain his declining mental capacity over the last 10 years.

Homely, professional, caring, friendly, honest - these are just five of the positive words that came to mind as I sat down to review Mum's and our experience of St Theresa's Rest Home. I actually can't think of any negative words. The care Mum received in her final few years was second to none; it was a great comfort to myself and my brother to know that Mum was so well cared for in such lovely surroundings.
We got to know some of the staff as friends; their care for Mum as a person was always very touching to see, re-assuring her and us through the difficulties that Covid threw our way.
Following a very bad experience at a poor care home, our faith and trust in elderly care were quickly restored. Three years later, we never for a minute regretted our decision to move Mum to St Theresa's.

Home-cooked food, fresh ambience throughout, large garden, lovely rooms and top care from the whole team of employees and management. Thanks to everyone there for treating our mum with respect and kindness.

I was aware of St Theresa's from my work in primary care over many years, and it had a very good reputation then. I have been retired for 10 years, and when my mother needed care, she chose St Theresa's 3 years ago. She was impressed by the warm, family atmosphere, which helped her to settle in well. Unfortunately, she has had a variety of health issues, and her mental state fluctuates. Although her communication skills have deteriorated, the staff are always kind and considerate. She is treated with respect and compassion. The management is readily available for discussion and feedback. During Covid, there have had to be adaptations, but the care and safety of residents have always been given priority. At this stage in her life, where she needs round-the-clock attention, I am very happy with that decision that she made 3-years ago.

On visits to several care homes in the area, I decided that St Theresa's Rest Home was the ideal place for my dear friend of 70 years. The bedrooms are clean, cosy, airy and warm. The food supplied by their own kitchen is freshly cooked; tea, biscuits and soup are readily available. Wednesday's exercise days are appreciated, along with other activities also. She was admitted 5-years ago. The management collected her from Southampton on our behalf, and are very helpful and caring. The staff too are very helpful and caring.

Mum moved into St Theresa's Rest Home in February 2021. She had been in hospital for six weeks and prior to that, I had been caring for her at home. Her physical health at that time was poor, and she was unable to walk unaided usually, I moved her to a wheelchair. Since settling in, mum's health has improved greatly, she has gained a little weight and is attempting to walk again without the use of a frame. She generally seems happy and relaxed. This is because of the great care she is receiving from the staff who really do hold her in their hearts. St Theresa's Rest Home truly is an excellent care home, and mum is very happy there.

My mother-in-law moved into St Theresa's in June 2019. We had spent a great deal of time choosing the perfect place and were not disappointed with our choice. It has kind, considerate and well-trained staff, a friendly environment, great food, lovely rooms and a wonderful garden. The communication between the home and family was excellent, especially during the pandemic. They have had no Covid cases, and this was so reassuring. Sadly my mother-in-law passed away this year, but her complex medical issues were managed extremely well and allowed her to enjoy her last years of life to the full.

My mother moved into St Theresa's in 2019. It had been her choice to move to a rest home. I did lots of research and visits to find the perfect one for her. From day one, she was welcomed by staff and residents. She has a lovely room with lots of photos and possessions but more than anything, she enjoys being in the lounge with others. The food is excellent with great meal choices. Mum looks forward to sitting with others for dinner. Pre pandemic, we could pop in at any time to see Mum. Obviously, Covid has changed things, but we have kept in close contact with her through FaceTime, phone calls, window and garden visits. The garden is beautiful. Mum loves sitting in the conservatory watching the weather and wildlife. The owners also manage the home. They are always available and regularly communicate with us by email and phone calls, especially through this difficult year. Mum's well-being has been completely catered for at St Theresa’s, but we still feel an important part of her life.

I visited several homes in the area before choosing St Theresa's on the basis of warmth (literal and metaphorical), cleanliness (no Covid cases to date speaks for itself) and being efficient, without appearing patronising. In the five years she was there, neither I, nor my cousin, had cause to doubt that my choice for her was the correct one. She was very well looked after, she loved her room, relished the food (the Christmas party was a joy) and when there was no entertainment, there were always the birds and squirrels to watch in the lovely garden. Friends and family were made to feel welcome anytime and I was always kept up to date regarding her health and welfare. I knew she was safe and happy in their hands until she passed away after a stroke in June.

My father has been at St. Theresa's for nearly 6 years now and has been looked after with the utmost care and compassion.
The owners are always there and have a consistent team of excellent care staff.
My father's health, appointments and medication have always been handled with great care and efficiency, and I'm always called and notified of anything that they consider relevant.
Pre the current pandemic, relatives and friends are encouraged to visit at will, and I have never felt the need, or encouraged, to "make an appointment".

The confident and stringent measures that St.Theresa's employed this March (even pre Government guidelines) meant that they have to date had NO Covid-19 cases amongst both the residents and staff, which is an outstanding achievement and clearly illustrates their commitment.

Having carefully reviewed a number of homes in the area, we chose St Theresa's as we found it a very caring/well-run home. The staff were very caring, thoughtful and friendly. My partner has been at the home for almost two years. I visit her at home every day.

The owner/owner-managers were around all the time and most courteous, helpful and friendly at all times. I feel my partner was part of the St Theresa's family and would have no hesitation about recommending the home to others who are seeking an excellent care home for those they care for.
