I have had a wonderful experience with the number of staff at Whitby Dene. I found them to be helpful to me as well as my friend, who is a resident. The staff have all been caring, respectful and willing to do their very best to provide for the medical needs of all the patients and many times under difficult circumstances.

This was, without doubt, the happiest care home I have ever visited. Every staff member that I met was excellent in every way. The happiest caregivers that I have encountered. Their rapport with the patients is a joy to encounter. I came away extremely happy knowing that my friend was being cared for in such an exceptional place.

All the staff in Whitby Dene cared for my dad, room 2, in every way needed. They all wanted him to enjoy his stay. They spent time and energy listening to him/talking about the books he had written/photos of his family. Encouraged him to eat/drink/walk. The staff acknowledged the residents when passing them. I have worked as an activities organiser so know what hard work it is to get people to join in. Your home is expensive but came highly recommended. Luckily, he had saved all his life. Thank you. We were made welcome at all times.

Whitby Dene care home have been caring for my husband for past month. I have nothing but praise for all of them. What a great team they are, friendly, warm, kind, collaborative going above and beyond to make my husband happy and feel at home, with activities, food etc. The nursing care I have seen exceeds much of what I have seen in local NHS hospitals here the patient comes first. From top to bottom Whitby Dene staff deserve a medal. Thank you all.

All staff are approachable, attentive, kind and compassionate to all my mothers needs. Nothing is too much effort. Whenever we ask any questions they are so responsive and meet us with care and attention. It was such a hard decision to put our mum into a home and the staff have helped us to come to terms with this. Thank you.

I always get an update regularly regarding my mum's health status though my mum is on palliative care. I am very satisfied and grateful to all the staff and to the quality of care given to my mum. This care is reflected on my mum's facial expression though she can't express it verbally, every time me and my brother visit her.

The staff at Whitby Dene are amazing. It must be such a difficult job both physically and mentally and yet they apply themselves with such professionalism and good spirit. I am always met with smiles and wonderful manners from the staff and this doubtless leads to a pleasant atmosphere for the residents too.

My brother-in-law has been in Whitby Dene for over a year now.
The staff are very helpful and welcoming when I visit him and he is comfortable and happy there.
It has been a difficult time recently when my wife, his sister died.
But he seems to be relaxed and content now.

Everyone there is most supportive of both him and myself.

Our mother was initially placed in Whitby Dene after breaking her arm and was allocated by the local council. She has now been there for 3 months and it is likely she will remain there long term. Even though the home is out of borough, and it would be far easier for us as a family to have her back in her own borough, nearer to us, we made the decision to keep her at Whitby Dene as we do not believe we would find anywhere that matches the care, or the overall harmony of the home. Our mother is taken out on frequent trips to a local café/pub/garden centre and there are continual activities being held in the home each day (dominoes/games/art and craft/music/piano playing etc). Our mother is never lonely or bored and the staff are friendly, warm, and caring. It has been a home from home and we cannot thank staff enough for the extra lengths they go to to make the residents stay a happy one.

Salima Baidoo
Salima BaidooJob Title:Home Manager

I’ve worked for Care UK for over a decade now. I started as a carer, so I’m really proud to have gotten to where I have. You still get challenges – every family and new resident is different, every person is an individual, and, initially, families can be worried about putting the care of their loved one into the hands of people they don’t know. Gaining people’s trust takes time, but it is one of the most important things we do.

Aside from supporting new families and residents in the home, day-to-day, I relish seeing residents happy, comfortable and looking smart. I think if they’re happy and comfortable, they must feel at home. In which case, we’re doing things right!
