Pembroke Care supports people who are medically ready to leave hospital but not yet ready, or confident enough, to manage at home. Set in a quiet residential part of Reading, minutes from the Royal Berkshire Hospital, this boutique setting has cared for local people since 1994 and is kept deliberately small, so staff know every guest personally.
The team offers a single Hospital-to-Home pathway with three ways in: post-hospital recovery stays,...

My Father is a resident at Pembroke Lodge and is thoroughly enjoying his stay. The staff always seem helpful and caring as well as extremely communicative. The food is always good and with the pleasant surroundings and garden a joy to walk around.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear that your father is enjoying his stay at Pembroke Lodge. It's wonderful to know that he appreciates the helpful and caring staff, as well as the quality of the food and the beautiful surroundings. Our team works hard to ensure all...
Pembroke Care offers an intimate warm environment for my mother. It has the look and feel of her old home with wonderful gardens to explore and enjoy. The transition from one's own family home to a care home must be a testing time for a new resident but my mother was made to feel one of the family from the first day. She has been at Pembroke Care over 2 years and is comfortably settled in enjoying the relaxed homely atmosphere. All the team at Pembroke Care are diligent, serene, attentive and above all understanding to both the needs of the resident but also their families. My mother's Birthday was celebrated as it would be at the family home with banners, balloons, decorations and cake. None of this was requested by us, Pembroke Care just laid it on - as is their way. It makes you feel that your loved one is in the best of hands and they really care about them as much as you do.
Thank you for the glowing review, it is a privilege to be looking after your mother. We are all one big family and enjoy celebrating with them as we would our own families.
My mother was a resident at Pembroke Lodge until her death earlier this year. She had come from another Care Home which was adequate but nowhere near as nice as Pembroke Lodge. The staff here are both knowledgeable and really caring, the food was excellent and although my mother had diminished appetite, the efforts made by staff, to provide fresh fruit and food was excellent. There is a lovely garden and all residents were treated with respect. I am very happy that she had the experience of staying at Pembroke Lodge with the kind and caring family atmosphere it has.
Thank you for your heartfelt review. We are deeply sorry for your loss and honoured that your mother spent her final days with us at Pembroke Lodge. Our team takes immense pride in providing knowledgeable and compassionate care, and it is truly rewarding to hear that our efforts made a positive...
They treat him respectfully and with great concern. I am very happy with his care.
Thank you for your kind words about the care we provide at Pembroke Care. It's wonderful to hear that the needs, wishes, and concerns of our service users are being attentively and respectfully addressed by our staff. We take great pride in ensuring a prompt and appropriate response to any medical...
I have visited a few more other homes before Pembroke, and Pembroke is very well run.
I can feel assured that my relative is well looked after.
The only negative is it was easier to be able to just arrive instead of having to book your visit. But I can understand why this is done.
Your understanding regarding...
All of the carers are lovely; they are kind and patient and never seem rushed. They are very friendly and show affection to all of the residents. I remember watching one of the male staff applying hand sanitiser to the resident's hands before lunch; he was so gentle and tender that I was very moved by this. All of the staff are wonderful and take so much care in what they do, and I take great comfort in knowing my mother is supported, safe, warm, fed and clean. Many, many thanks.
Your observations about our carers' kindness, patience, and affectionate care truly resonate...
The home was kept free from the Covid virus, for which we were truly grateful to them. Although we missed visiting, we were kept updated with videos and messages, which was reassuring to us at the time.
Prior to the outbreak of Covid, visiting was unrestricted, and family friends were able to pop in and see their loved ones as and when they wished. However, since all restrictions were lifted on visiting care homes, some restrictions still remain, which might be a barrier to those who find keeping appointments difficult.
Many care homes were visited before choosing Pembroke Lodge, but although it didn't have the latest equipment or the best furnishing, it had the best atmosphere and attentive staff, so where else would we have chosen?
Thank you for taking the time to share your heartfelt thoughts about Pembroke Lodge. We are immensely grateful for your recognition of the love, care, and empathy that our staff dedicates to each resident, including your mother. It's our top priority to ensure that our residents are not only...
Her final days were dealt with dignity and respect and the care shown to the family was way beyond expectation.
As a family, we hope all the staff realise how invaluable they are and what a difference they make to people’s lives by doing what they do.
My Uncle reluctantly came to Alexandra Lodge with preconceived ideas as to what life in a care home would be like. Thanks to amazing carers he was able to continue living how he wanted to live and everyone at Pembroke Care went to great lengths to ensure he was comfortable, safe and, above all, happy.
Covid was a hard time for everyone, but I received regular videos showing how mum and the rest of the clients were doing.
Mums, last days were peaceful, the staff allowing my sister and I to spend that valuable time with mum.
I can't thank the staff enough for caring for mum. Keep up the good work.
Very pleasant and comfortable.
This is an absolutely lovely, happy, family place.
I am extremely grateful for the thoughtful and kind care which the staff at Pembroke Care provided for my 90-year-old friend up to the end of his life. He loved the 6 months he spent there - a nice touch was his 6.45 pm glass of wine brought to his room! The team members helped him with computer glitches, gave warm hugs and they could not have been more accommodating in providing for him, and the food was excellent! This was very important for my friend. Thank you!
We could not have been more pleased with our decision to place our Mum into the care of the staff at Pembroke Care. Mum had suffered two recent strokes which had exacerbated her worsening dementia, and so we were keen to find somewhere that would cater to all of her needs. From our very first meeting with the team and our first visit to Pembroke we were sure that we were on our way to making the best decision for Mum, and so it proved to be. Mum enjoyed over two comfortable and productive years at Pembroke, where she was treated with the utmost care and dignity by the excellent and very professional staff. Families and friends of residents are made to feel very welcome by the staff and visiting Mum at Pembroke was always a pleasure. In Mum's final weeks and days, we knew that she was receiving excellent and humane palliative care and that she was cared for until the moment she passed. Thank you, to the manager and the Pembroke staff for caring for and looking after our lovely Mum.
While her condition gradually deteriorated, mostly due to dementia, the care afforded her, and the other residents were unerring.
All of the residents were protected from the Covid threat by the exceptional efforts of the management and staff of Pembroke Lodge.
Thank you.
This home has provided a caring and safe environment for my mother during the challenges of the Covid pandemic. To date, the home has remained free of Covid, and until very recently, has allowed unlimited garden visits from family and friends. The staff team is very consistent, friendly, welcoming and caring. I have no concerns, but due to the pandemic, have never been inside the home, which means that scores for several of the questions are not well informed.
The home is not an institution, but a real ‘ home from home‘ with nothing too much trouble for the owners and carers.
There is a delightful sitting room looking over a very pleasant garden.
On discussing the amount of staff-v-residents, there were ample staff allocated.
When my Father first moved into the care home, he was welcomed and settled in very quickly. His bedroom was quite spacious and was very clean and tidy.
With his illness, my father was never the easiest person to get on with, but with the quality of care, he was very well looked after and accepted where he was.
On behalf of myself and my sister, a big thank you to all management and staff at the Pembroke care home.
My mother-in-law was very happy at Pembroke. She had friends around her and enjoyed sitting in the lounge and the garden in good weather! She had her favourite carers and loved the manager's children being around.
Everyone was very kind and helpful, and especially the management. Our grandad stayed there for almost 2 months, and our impression was that he enjoyed his stay at Pembroke. As we were far away and could not visit him very often, we appreciated the update the management gave us during his stay at Pembroke. We highly recommend Pembroke.
