Pembroke Care supports people who are medically ready to leave hospital but not yet ready, or confident enough, to manage at home. Set in a quiet residential part of Reading, minutes from the Royal Berkshire Hospital, this boutique setting has cared for local people since 1994 and is kept deliberately small, so staff know every guest personally.
The team offers a single Hospital-to-Home pathway with three ways in: post-hospital recovery stays,...

Our Stepfather moved into Pembroke Lodge six weeks ago, after a very difficult year. We are so glad we chose it. The staff, including the management team, are so professional, yet caring and highly respectful. There certainly is a family feel about the Lodge. We really do get the sense that our beloved Stepfather could not be in a better place for his current needs. When you are very frail and elderly, food becomes one of the highlights of the day, and this has certainly been the case, he is getting a variety of meals and does look forward to his meals. The room is very cosy and warm with a beautiful view of the lovely garden and he has said to me that the staff are very gentle with him when getting ready in the morning. There are so many things to consider when you make a lifechanging move into residential care, but thanks to the staff and all of the team the transition has been less difficult than it could have been. We definitely have been given peace of mind.
We looked at a number of homes and from her initial reception, I was relieved that we had made the right decision in Pembroke Care.
It has a great homely atmosphere. The staff are caring and kind and residents are treated with patience, dignity and sympathy.
I am confident that my mother is well looked after and I have complete peace of mind.
Management are always on hand and are approachable, efficient and friendly.
Lovely clean bright room, fantastic gardens and lovely food. Although we endeavour to avoid lunchtimes, we can visit at any time and we are always made to feel welcome.
I can confidently recommend Pembroke Care.
My mother had grown up in an abusive orphanage and it was never going to be easy for her to adapt to living in any sort of care establishment as she became dependent on others again, but I think the homely surroundings, and the care and respect with which Pembroke Care's lovely staff treated her, made her final months as pleasant as possible.
As a visitor, I always found the staff friendly and welcoming. In particular, the deputy manager (with whom I had most formal dealings) was extremely kind and helpful, e.g. giving my sister a conducted tour of the home and chat with our mother via facetime on his phone, and he even went out of his way to come to her funeral.
Good people: recommended.
Her room was very warm and homely with an ensuite which catered for all her needs.
We would definitely recommend Alexandra Lodge to anyone wanting assisted care for family and friends.
With a welcoming atmosphere and beautifully landscaped gardens, Pembroke Lodge has a real home from home feel. All staff members and management go that extra mile to make residents and their visiting family feel so welcome with their help and encouragement my mother settled in very quickly and is very happy, which is wonderful for us, as her family, to see.
A first class care home in my opinion.
Pembroke is excellent, the continuity of staff speaks for itself, the atmosphere is always happy and the home benefits hugely from being independently run by a lovely and caring family. We have no worries whatsoever and peace of mind is everything. Additionally, Pembroke gave us a tremendous amount of 'above and beyond' support during difficult and traumatic times.
Since I have moved here I've been amazed at the level of care and compassion that the staff have for myself and every other resident. All of my care needs are met and if there is anything else that arises that is also met. I am surprisingly happy to be here and glad that my family found this. I have settled in very well. What needs to be done in a very professional manner using ingenious methods and equipment. Above all it is carried out with love and encouragement and success is arrived at by all involved with excellent results.
The care package is good and the staff are friendly. There are occasional language problems with some carers. The food is excellent. My wife and I are currently living independently with assistance from the carers; when the time comes I would have no hesitation in becoming a resident.
Excellent care. Evening meal a little early for me but this was adjusted without a problem.
Thank you for your lovely review, you are welcome back any time.
She does not need long-term residential care and was glad to get home, as many of us are even after a good holiday, but she is planning to get some more help at home and Pembroke Care will be her supplier of choice.
It was our pleasure to look after Moira and she is welcome back any time. Thank you for such a kind and honest review.
My mother has lived at Pembroke Lodge for several years. Although she does not always see the bright side of life herself, I have always found the staff to be caring, patient and attentive. The rooms are exceptionally clean and tidy, and the manager is friendly and approachable. I am pleased that she is able to live there.
After a lot of falls and my dad's condition of Parkinson's taking its toll on him. We as a family considered that he needed full-time care. We did a lot of traipsing around various homes but when we discovered Pembroke Care we felt that it was certainly worth a trial. Dad has settled well being over 9 months now and the falls have become minimal. He is well looked after Doctors etc. The home is very welcoming to family visitors and I couldn't ask for better. Thank you, Pembroke Care.
Our mum has been at Pembroke care home for nearly four years and has been well looked after. We have complete peace of mind and confidence in mum's care and all of the staff. We can visit at any time and are always made welcome. While mum has been at Pembroke the owner has made several improvements to the outdoor space by having the garden landscaped and that shows the commitment on offer to the residents by reinvesting to make it a nicer place to be.
Thank you for your kind review - we look forward to seeing you again.
A very attentive and caring care home environment staffed by capable and compassionate staff. Well resourced and well managed. Beautiful grounds and well-furnished accommodation with a family atmosphere.
Thank you for your kind comments. It was a pleasure to look after Mum, please feel free to come and visit anytime.
Following a collapse, I was unable to look after myself although I had been doing this satisfactorily after the death of my wife. It was, therefore, comforting to be placed in a care home where I was looked after very well with proficient independence, my own self-contained flat and all the help and services I required; and importantly a feeling of security with help always at hand.
Pembroke Care has provided my friend with a very good level of care for all the 9 years that he has been at Pembroke Loge. The staff are always welcoming on my arrival or whenever I telephone. There is an excellent atmosphere whereby relatives and friends feel "part of the family" during every visit in a relaxed environment. Management are always on hand to discuss any welfare issues or day-to-day enquires.
The flat was very nice and cosy and catered to his needs. As his care needs progressed even further, he requested to move into the main home where he can have 24-hour care.
I am very happy that dad is safe and well taken cared of, I do not need to worry about him anymore.
Dad is very happy here and is given everything that he needs. I would have no trouble recommending Pembroke Care to anyone. The staff are very good and friendly, and the management are easily contactable and approachable should we need anything.
I was very grateful that during the Christmas period, I was able to stay in a flat, provided free of charge which meant I could spend quality time with dad.
Thank you Hilary for such a lovely review - Pembroke Care
The care that my mother received while at Pembroke Care was above my expectations. Mum could be very "challenging" at times and all the staff were very professional and sympathetic to her needs and requirements, both medically and emotionally. Pembroke Lodge really is a home from home, with all residents and visitors are treated like family. The home has some stunning gardens which have been designed with dementia residents in mind. I would have no concerns recommending this home to anyone else.
Having needed some treatment from the Hospital, and looking around at other care providers in the Reading area, I decided to come to Pembroke Care due to the kind and caring atmosphere. I have not regretted my decision since. During my stay, if I ever needed assistance or anything else, in particular, this was provided with the best consideration of my needs. I require a gluten free diet and this was given with no problems at all. If you require personal assistance, at the same time as independence, then this is an excellent establishment.
