Cleeve Lodge has been rated Outstanding overall by CQC three times consecutively - in 2016, April 2019 and May 2025. It was named a Lottie Top 100 Care Home in 2025, and its Registered Manager won the Leadership Award at the Oxfordshire Care Awards 2026. Having served the community for nearly 50 years, it is one of Oxfordshire’s longest-established care homes. This history and recognition are cherished honours and a responsibility the home remains committed to upholding.
There are 24 single-occupancy bedrooms, available with or without an en-suite toilet, plus two communal wet rooms. Residents can bring furniture, photographs and treasured possessions to make their room their own. Every floor is lift-accessible.
NHS district nurses provide clinical support when required, and the village GP visits weekly. Activities include sewing, gardening and caring for resident guinea pigs Brian and Stitch. Vegetables grown by residents are used in the kitchen whenever possible. The local vicar visits weekly for optional worship, hymns and reflection, and the home sponsors Goring-on-Thames Cricket Club.
Family and friends may visit 24 hours a day. Private permanent care starts from £1,495 weekly and respite from £1,549. The distinctive, fully all-inclusive private fee includes physiotherapy, hairdressing, podiatry and everyday sundries - services often charged as extras elsewhere. Families are warmly invited to arrange a personal tour.

My aunt has been at Cleeve Lodge for over 3 years. She is happy and healthy, and is very well cared for by a lovely team led by the wonderful manager. We are always welcomed warmly and given a hot drink and tasty cake. They also take an interest in the whole family. As we live up to 5 hours drive away, we are kept up to date with emails and photos. We also know that we will be notified, and a doctor called, if she has any health concerns. It is very reassuring to know that she is being looked after 24/7. The worry has been taken away from us. There are interesting activities, events and outings organised, which my aunt is encouraged to participate in, with help from the carers and volunteers, when she feels like it, but there is no pressure to take part. The whole team encourage her to chat, which she really enjoys. She also loves her food and eats well. Her personal care has increased naturally,as her dementia has progressed, but it is carried out with great care and respect.

My husband has now settled in really well and says he can't fault anything. The staff are the back bone of this home , they are obviously very well trained and love their job led by their wonderful manager who is very involved in the care of the residents. Cleeve Lodge is an example of how all care homes should be. When my mother arrived there, she was quite ill and also suffering from an element of depression. Her improvement over the months has been dramatic. Whilst some of this can be accounted for by medication, a large part is clearly the way she is treated at the Lodge. From my observations, and I have been there for many hours, the staff are attentive, considerate and patient. I have seen no signs of frustration in the staff, only kindness. This is very impressive. Beyond this, residents are encouraged to take part in a variety of activities, and my mother has been happily getting involved in things should would never have tried by herself at home. She is also encouraged to attend external events in the village, safely accompanied by a staff member or family/friend. Visitors are made very welcome at any time and I feel 'at home' there. From personal experience, I can say that lunch (the main meal of the day) is particularly good.

My mother came to Cleeve Lodge after quite a challenging period for her. The kindness and attention shown to her by all the staff has been exceptional. As a result, she has settled very quickly and is very happy there. The home provides a thoughful range of activities and we also appreciate the flexibility that the home has shown to faciltate my mother continuing to participate, where possible, in activities she was involved with previously in the local community. It is worth highlighting the positivity and cheerfulness of the staff and how welcoming the home is to visitors, who can pop in freely, which means that Cleeve Lodge really does feel like a home rather than an institution. We are extremely grateful to the management and staff for all their efforts.

Emma O’Connor brings almost 40 years of experience in adult social care to her role as Registered Manager of Cleeve Lodge.
Emma believes that excellent care begins with knowing the person. She takes time to learn about each resident’s life, personality, routines, interests, likes and dislikes, as well as the family members and friends who remain important to them.
Her approach is deeply personal and hands-on. Emma is highly visible throughout the home, knows residents and families personally and works closely with the team to ensure that care remains compassionate, respectful and responsive as residents’ needs change.
Emma also personally handles enquiries and tours for prospective residents and their families. She understands how difficult the decision to seek residential care can be and aims to make the process as open, supportive and reassuring as possible.
In May 2026, Emma won the Leadership Award at the Oxfordshire Care Awards, organised by the Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers. The award recognised her leadership and contribution to adult social care.
