I cannot fault the care my aunt received in the short time she was a resident. She was treated with respect, compassion and dignity till the end. All the staff were absolutely lovely and could not do enough for my aunt's family and her friends that visited. Everyone took the time to chat to us all and
also asked us all how we were coping with her situation, and this was greatly appreciated by all. I would highly recommend Signature at Sonning to anyone looking for care for themselves or family.

I was able to move my brother to Sonning during the last 6-weeks of his life following a terminal cancer diagnosis.
From the moment he arrived, he was made to feel welcome and well supported. All the staff cared for him with dignity and respect for all his needs and wishes whilst taking time to support
myself and family through the difficult latter stages of his illness.
Their links to the local palliative team were invaluable, also to the rapid response team so he could be treated at the nursing home and avoid admissions to the hospital as this was his wish.
I truly believe he could not have been in a better place to end his journey, and I will be forever grateful to the nursing team, caregivers and admin team for all their compassion and care.

Life can be hard and difficult at times as dreams are snatched away in a blink of an eye. When devastating times tear your family apart and a loved one's needs become complex and specialised. Tough and heartbreaking choices are needed to be made. One suddenly is responsible for the welfare of a loved
one's life. From the moment we entered the door in July, they reassured and welcomed us all. Within a few days, our loved family member was safe and secure in a beautiful suite in the home. They have given my husband a better quality of life, care and nursing. Every member of staff looks at all residents as individual people; they truly care for them, understand their needs and much more. Their positive, friendly, comforting and compassionate approach is always consistent. This is a constant for the residents and relatives alike. The staff have supported our family and gone beyond during some challenging times. My husband lost his battle in February 2022. The above statement remains true.

I helped a 94-year-old lady to move into Sonning for dementia care and just wanted to compliment the reminiscence care team on the way they have been helping her to settle.


It is so lovely to see that they have styled her hair so beautifully, always coordinated her clothing as well as taken time

to file, shape and paint her nails - hopefully, she has enjoyed some of this dedicated attention too.


The team are very considerate, and I appreciate this change in her appearance and hope it may also help her to gain trust with so many new people around her too.

We moved Dad into Sunrise from Yorkshire, with excellent support from the admissions team. He is much happier and feels supported by all who have done everything possible to welcome him into his new home. It is wonderful to see a renewed sense of hope and optimism in his eyes. Dad is keen on kippers
for breakfast, and after a chat with the chef, he was delighted to be offered them! He is particularly impressed to be offered a pre-lunch fortified wine at weekends and wine with his evening meals!

My father suffered from Alzheimer's Dementia, and he was a resident at Sonning Sunrise care home for over 3.5-years. He was very happy there, never once asking when he would be going home. I chose Sunrise of Sonning because they specialise in dementia and have trained staff who are very professional
and caring. My father was pleased with the care of his personal needs, which were continually reviewed and amended according to his personal needs. The staff kept me updated weekly with his wellbeing and activities, and I could visit when I liked, apart from mealtimes. His bedroom was comfortable, and they made sure he was monitored at night should he leave his bed.


The care home went the extra mile to celebrate his 100th birthday despite the Coronavirus restrictions with cake and drinks. All the reminiscence care team were marvellous making sure he was comfortable and all his wants taken care of when he reached his end of life programme. He was loved by all.

My aunt went into the dementia unit at Sunrise and received very good care during her short stay. The staff all seemed very nice and patient, especially as my aunt kept changing rooms! The gardens were lovely - very well kept.

Dad has been a resident for nearly three years at Sunrise of Sonning. He is 91 and suffering from dementia, although still capable of assisted living. He enjoys the highest standard of care and accommodation and is highly appreciative of the excellent team of staff who work so well together to ensure
all his needs are satisfied. He is happy and in very good hands. My sister and I have been very impressed,# and can be assured that Dad is in good hands.

My mother has been at Sunrise of Sonning for over two years, and she has been happy and well cared for throughout this time.
During the recent Covid outbreak, staff did everything possible to ensure continuity of care for the residents despite the difficulties of running Sunrise with limited staff.
Families were kept informed through regular online meetings with the manager and other key staff. I have every confidence in their ability to keep residents safe and would definitely recommend Sunrise to anyone looking for quality care for their elderly relative.

My mother has just celebrated her 100th birthday at Sunrise of Sonning, and they really pulled out all the stops to ensure that Mum had an excellent day. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, she was unable to have her family and friends around her, but Sunrise staff worked with our family to facilitate a conference
call with family and to play a specially compiled video from family and friends. Sunrise staff decorated the home provided a beautiful cake and a great atmosphere and toasted Mum's good health. She couldn't have had a better day. The general manager even made sure she was looking her best and gave her a makeover, which delighted my Mum. The carers and activity staff all made a fuss of her and made her feel a million dollars. Thank you Sunrise.

My mother-in-law was a happy and established member of the Sonning Sunrise community before the onset of COVID-19. This pandemic has been handled in a highly professional and compassionate manner, with great and caring teamwork. Consequently, my mother-in-law continues to be a happy resident, enjoying
life as much as she can. We have had a great drive-through visit, my wife has visited in-person twice and I have managed to also visit. Everything was brilliantly orgnanised. All members of staff, from members of the management to those in every type of other post, are invariably friendly, welcoming, caring and utterly professional. My mother-in-law considers Sunrise to be her happy and safe home, appropriate for the current stage of her life. I would unhesitatingly recommend Sunrise at Sonning to anyone in the Thames Valley considering the care of their relatives. Sunrise has meant my partner and I can be sure that our beloved relative is well cared for in the best environment possible.

My father has been in Sunrise of Sonning for the last three and a half years - during that time he has been looked after to the highest standard by staff who have dealt with him with the most compassion, understanding and love.
Each resident is treated as an individual to reflect their specific needs
to ensure the best quality of life.
During COVID when families have been unable to visit and with all the added strains that the virus has created the staff have been amazing.
Sadly my father passed away recently and the love and care that the staff showed him in his dying hours was such a comfort to all the family especially due to COVID that we could not be with him.
After visiting several homes before choosing Sunrise for my father I would say that Sunrise may be a little more expensive but worth every penny.

This has been a very difficult time for all concerned. I continue to be grateful and impressed by the care and attention both my wife and I have received. All levels of staff have been excellent and so caring. Communication has also been very good and I have been updated regularly and comprehensively,
this has made it much easier for me to understand the need to take all the safety measures which have been effectively and efficiently introduced. Life has been somewhat miserable being unable to visit my wife as regularly as I did before lockdown but I feel everything has been managed as well as it could be in the circumstances. My grateful thanks to all concerned.

Thank you to all the caring staff at Sunrise and for arranging the wonderful 45-minute visits.
I live in Shropshire and had not seen my mum since February apart from the Facetime calls which you have kindly arranged once a week which I really appreciate.
It is so much easier to communicate with mum
being able to see me.
Last Thursday, 16th July, I spent a very precious 45-minutes in the garden of Sunrise with mum.
The visit was very well arranged, and we were given clear instructions with the PPE provided.
Mum was waiting for me, and we had such a lovely time together.
Thank you so much. It was a wonderful idea, and I am sure it means a lot to all who can take this opportunity.
Thank you also for all the wonderful care you give to your residents.
I know that mum is very comfortable and is well cared for, which is so reassuring.

Following a fall which resulted in a fractured sternum. My stay at Sunrise has been a good experience. Following a fall and heart-stopping in hospital, I had a pacemaker implanted. I came to Sunrise to recuperate. Unfortunately, due to the political/health situation currently, I have cut short my stay
a little, to be sure of returning home! The country is very unsettled at present and I feel it is time for me to return home. All the staff has been very kind and helpful during my stay.

Overall the care is very good and all the carers are very kind and caring. However, I feel they are understaffed and very inexperienced to look after someone as dependent as my mum. We do have, in addition, a private carer in the afternoons. Without this, my mum would be alone for long periods and possibly
her needs would not be met as they are now.

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months.   • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Susan

Susan Johnstone

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2018

I have worked in Sonning Gardens since 2018, first as Deputy Manager and now as Home Manager. Previously I worked in the NHS as a District Nurse, Community Nurse Practice Educator, Independent Nurse Prescriber and Community Nurse Manager. I have a number of nursing qualifications and an MA in Health and Nursing Care.


My passion has always been caring for people in their own homes and supporting my team to be the best they are in their chosen careers. Working at Sonning Gardens is the perfect environment for me as our residents and staff are all in one beautiful home, set on lovely grounds. I especially love Christmas at Sonning as our home is magical with all the pretty decorations and lights.


When not at work I enjoy tending my flowers and vegetables, visiting National Trust properties and taking trips to the coast when possible. When I get a quiet evening in I enjoy a good murder mystery with a glass of wine.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

I am delighted to be part of the team at Sonning Gardens. Working as a Deputy Manager, I have the privilege to support the team and the Home Manager with my clinical knowledge and experience.


I started my career 16 years ago as a qualified nurse. My career started in acute hospital settings where I worked for 8 years before I moved to the UK and worked in the care home sector. I have worked in various capacities including RGN, Unit Manager, Senior Nurse and now Deputy Manager. I joined the team at Sonning Gardens just over a year ago as an RGN and moved up to Deputy manager after 6 months.


Caring for the elderly and the vulnerable is a part of my culture and becoming a nurse just made that a lot more profound. I believe people deserve to live their lives to the fullest despite their circumstances and this is what I see happening every day at Sonning Gardens. I am proud to be part of it all.


In my free time, I like to take long walks, travel and be with my family.

Sarah Townsend

Job Title: Client Liaison Manager

Joined: 2022

I joined Sonning in August 2022 having managed a private health club for 8 years.


I have always enjoyed working with senior populations and was closely involved in organising memberships, and activities and applying for funding for exercise programmes for the over 65's in my last job, so the move into care seemed entirely natural.


The team at Sonning are supportive of each other and takes pride in ensuring that our residents can have enjoyable and fulfilled lives in our home.


I find it immensely rewarding to work with families to work out the best care solutions for their loved ones.
In my spare time, I enjoy walking my cocker spaniel, Dudley, gardening and travelling in our campervan.

Megan Godin

Job Title: Dementia Care Manager

Joined: 2021

I started in the care industry 8 years ago after finishing university and jo9ined Sonning in 2021 as the Dementia Care Manager.
I have always enjoyed helping people and have a real passion for dementia care and making a difference in our residents daily lives.
As the manager of Woodlands, I support my team to provide excellent, person-centred care to all our residents, providing meaningful engagement during the day.
Another passion of mine is animals and I have two mini dachshunds who enjoy coming to work with me. The residents enjoy stroking them and watching Poppy and Peach playing balloon tennis!

Ian Duldulao

Job Title: Residential Care Manager

Joined: 2016

My full name is Cesar Ian Duldulao, but everyone calls me Ian.


I originally joined the home in 2016 as a Senior Carer in reminiscence. I then worked my way up to Dementia Care Manager and subsequently transferred to Residential Care Manager in March 2023.


My background is in nursing, and I have worked for the last 16 years in social care. I relish providing care for people in a dignified and respectful way when they need it most. I am privileged to work with and be part of such an amazing team, who brings so much joy and happiness to the residents we care for. My passion and goal in life are to care for others and support them to live well with their Dementia.


In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, cycling and spending time with my family.

Georgina

Georgina Williams

Job Title: Well-being and Activities Co-ordinator

I manage the wide range of clubs, hobbies, entertainers, live music, outings, guest speakers and exercise classes we have on offer at Sonning. With input from the residents, my team also holds regular family events and social evenings. Having such a variety allows the residents to pick and choose what they wish to be involved in.
