When I came to Sunrise in late December 2018 for respite care, I was very well looked after by the staff, particularly the nursing staff.
I met with nothing but kindness and encouragement from the staff and residents and through all this I have regained most of my health.
In many ways, Sunrise is
more like a hotel than a residential home and its attractive gardens add greatly to its appeal.

My mother moved into Sunrise Sonning in December 2018 when she could no longer live independently. She was very poorly while she was there and sadly passed away in February 2019. Her care was second to none. Without exception, every member of staff was warm and caring, not just towards my mother but
family members too. The nursing care she received was exceptional.
I would recommend Sunrise Sonning to anyone looking for care for themselves or for a relative.

My father moved into Sunrise of Sonning in December 2018 in extremely stressful circumstances. The staff at the home were absolutely brilliant. The facilities are top rate and the whole place is extremely well run. Sadly my father passed away, but again the staff were excellent and caring throughout.
I would, without hesitation, recommend this home to anyone looking for a caring, friendly, welcoming place for themselves or their relatives.

My mother was diagnosed with early onset dementia and spent 6 years living in Sunrise of Sonning being cared for by the Reminiscence team. She was one of the longest staying residents. Throughout the whole time, the team have gone above and beyond what I would expect, showing real intelligence, professionalism
and passion for the people in their care. For the relatives, they prepared us for each new stage before it happened, carefully discussed the options and had the confidence to nudge us in the right direction if we were unsure. For my mother, she was cared for with love and kindness. Even in the final stages they thought of everything and made sure she was treated perfectly, even if that meant taking some tough decisions on their part or putting her needs in front of their own. Both of her lead carers are now part of our family and join in family events. I could not recommend them more highly nor praise them more.

Sunrise of Sonning is an excellent facility with a team of managers and staff who genuinely care about their residents.
In particular, they took great care of my Uncle during very difficult circumstances.

My 64-year-old sister stayed at Sunrise of Sonning for the last 12 weeks of her life. She was always treated with dignity and respect. Nothing was lacking in her end of life care. All staff were very friendly at all times. Her cat who stayed with her was also very well cared for. The food and activities
were excellent. Nothing was too much for any member of staff. We were always made to feel very welcome, part of a big family and encouraged to join in activities.

Everyone has made my mum feel at home and treated her very well. Staff have been compassionate and caring. On one occasion, mum didn't receive help to get undressed and her buzzer didn't seem to work. This was resolved by mum leaving her room to find someone. I understand this was an oversight and hasn't
happened again. Any problem has been dealt with immediately and with support and understanding.

My dad was a resident at ‘Reminiscence’, Sunrise of Sonning for almost three years suffering from vascular dementia. The care, love, support and respect that my dad was given by the 'Reminiscence' team at Sunrise was exemplary throughout. My father's dementia journey was not easy for him or our family,
but the staff were flexible, proactive and understanding the whole time. Communication from the staff to the family was also excellent.


Dad and our family are eternally grateful for the care and compassion shown. Thank you to all at Sunrise of Sonning.

We chose Sunrise for my mother after visiting several others and were impressed by their standards of care and attention to detail.
Although not the cheapest, Sunrise still offers value for money due to its high all-around standards.
I would particularly praise the staff for their care, sympathy,
and professionalism. And everybody is very friendly.

I have found sunrise to be very caring. the staff are most helpful and kind to my husband and myself.
The home is very clean and welcoming. Lots of activities are also going on so a very good as one enters.
the only complaint I have which I had to bring to the notice of the carers was the washing
of clothes which trousers and jumpers had shrunk. They should not be on a hot wash.

Our mother had been living in Sunrise for nearly five years and we had always been very happy with her care. Sadly she became unwell in January and received exemplary care from the carers and nurses for her final weeks. she was treated with love and respect throughout which enabled her to have a peaceful,
dignified passing.
we felt very privileged that she was able to end her days at home.

Very high standard throughout. Staff generally very enthusiastic and genuine in their caring for residents. Entertainment very good. Very impressed how staff manage to maintain their happy outlook and enthusiasm. I'm very confident and happy that my mum is well looked after and safe.

My father moved into Sunrise of Sonning to be nearer his sister in law. My mother was going to move to the reminiscence floor too but sadly passed away before the move occurred. My father is very happy here - he likes his room and the food and the carers are all lovely and kind. We find the staff friendly
and caring. The food is good and plentiful, only the cleaning is a bit hit and miss!

I think the staff at Sunrise of Sonning are helpful and kind (especially on reception) However, there has been occasion upstairs where mum resides where her room has been left in a poor condition i.e unmade bed, not clean. Downstairs, however, Sunrise of Sonning is a beautiful care home.

I first approached Sunrise of Sonning about care for my 98-year-old Aunt in December 2017. The Community Relations Director was extremely helpful and kept in touch with me whilst my Aunt spent 5 weeks in the hospital. I was able to choose a lovely room which I felt my Aunt would like. My Aunt was discharged
from Hospital on 9th January to Sunrise. She was treated with care, compassion and dignity by all the staff who came into contact with her. They respected her wishes at all times. All the staff that I came into contact with were extremely friendly courteous and so kind and helpful.


Sadly my Aunt passed away 20 days later, but I know that during her time at Sunrise she received the best care and attention possible. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone.

Making a choice of a home is not an easy decision. The staff at Sunrise have met all expectations. The care is delivered to a high standard, most importantly, I feel my relative is safe and I feel supported with my family. The care is outstanding, incorporating good communication and dignity and always

This home has provided a level of care above excellent. This care extended my mother's life and is now extending my father's life. It is the best home I have ever seen and I used to inspect these types of premises for various London boroughs.
Staff provide an above excellent level of support and care.
The value of this type of premises is reasonable in relation to the overall package of support provided to the residents. I am very thankful we found this service provider. Merry Christmas.

My uncle lived at Sunrise of Sonning for three years before his death this November. The care and attention he received for the whole of the 3 years was excellent and particularly so far his last month. The carers are all very good indeed and the surroundings very pleasant. Sometimes the food could
be a wee bit better. My mother in law is also at Sunrise in Sonning and is always receiving excellent care. The communication between the nursing staff and myself was excellent too. I couldn't really fault anything.

My mother was extremely reticent about changing her lifestyle to one where she would rely on others for her daily needs, but since moving to Sunrise, with few exceptions, she has settled in and is now very happy to be living in this community. It has given my siblings and I a great deal of comfort
to see Mum so happy and surrounded by both caring staff and vibrant company.
The staff are attentive and concientious, and have enough time to answer any and all questions from my family, and have created a stimulating environment of friendly people for my mum.

    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months.   3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Susan

Susan Johnstone

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2018

I have worked in Sonning Gardens since 2018, first as Deputy Manager and now as Home Manager. Previously I worked in the NHS as a District Nurse, Community Nurse Practice Educator, Independent Nurse Prescriber and Community Nurse Manager. I have a number of nursing qualifications and an MA in Health and Nursing Care.


My passion has always been caring for people in their own homes and supporting my team to be the best they are in their chosen careers. Working at Sonning Gardens is the perfect environment for me as our residents and staff are all in one beautiful home, set on lovely grounds. I especially love Christmas at Sonning as our home is magical with all the pretty decorations and lights.


When not at work I enjoy tending my flowers and vegetables, visiting National Trust properties and taking trips to the coast when possible. When I get a quiet evening in I enjoy a good murder mystery with a glass of wine.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2022

I am delighted to be part of the team at Sonning Gardens. Working as a Deputy Manager, I have the privilege to support the team and the Home Manager with my clinical knowledge and experience.


I started my career 16 years ago as a qualified nurse. My career started in acute hospital settings where I worked for 8 years before I moved to the UK and worked in the care home sector. I have worked in various capacities including RGN, Unit Manager, Senior Nurse and now Deputy Manager. I joined the team at Sonning Gardens just over a year ago as an RGN and moved up to Deputy manager after 6 months.


Caring for the elderly and the vulnerable is a part of my culture and becoming a nurse just made that a lot more profound. I believe people deserve to live their lives to the fullest despite their circumstances and this is what I see happening every day at Sonning Gardens. I am proud to be part of it all.


In my free time, I like to take long walks, travel and be with my family.

Sarah Townsend

Job Title: Client Liaison Manager Joined: 2022

I joined Sonning in August 2022 having managed a private health club for 8 years.


I have always enjoyed working with senior populations and was closely involved in organising memberships, and activities and applying for funding for exercise programmes for the over 65's in my last job, so the move into care seemed entirely natural.


The team at Sonning are supportive of each other and takes pride in ensuring that our residents can have enjoyable and fulfilled lives in our home.


I find it immensely rewarding to work with families to work out the best care solutions for their loved ones.
In my spare time, I enjoy walking my cocker spaniel, Dudley, gardening and travelling in our campervan.

Megan Godin

Job Title: Dementia Care Manager Joined: 2021

I started in the care industry 8 years ago after finishing university and jo9ined Sonning in 2021 as the Dementia Care Manager.
I have always enjoyed helping people and have a real passion for dementia care and making a difference in our residents daily lives.
As the manager of Woodlands, I support my team to provide excellent, person-centred care to all our residents, providing meaningful engagement during the day.
Another passion of mine is animals and I have two mini dachshunds who enjoy coming to work with me. The residents enjoy stroking them and watching Poppy and Peach playing balloon tennis!

Ian Duldulao

Job Title: Residential Care Manager Joined: 2016

My full name is Cesar Ian Duldulao, but everyone calls me Ian.


I originally joined the home in 2016 as a Senior Carer in reminiscence. I then worked my way up to Dementia Care Manager and subsequently transferred to Residential Care Manager in March 2023.


My background is in nursing, and I have worked for the last 16 years in social care. I relish providing care for people in a dignified and respectful way when they need it most. I am privileged to work with and be part of such an amazing team, who brings so much joy and happiness to the residents we care for. My passion and goal in life are to care for others and support them to live well with their Dementia.


In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, cycling and spending time with my family.

Georgina

Georgina Williams

Job Title: Well-being and Activities Co-ordinator

I manage the wide range of clubs, hobbies, entertainers, live music, outings, guest speakers and exercise classes we have on offer at Sonning. With input from the residents, my team also holds regular family events and social evenings. Having such a variety allows the residents to pick and choose what they wish to be involved in.
