Our dad has been in the home for nearly three years now. Dad is happy here and settled in well.
Our main issues are Dad's personal bits going missing from is room. We, as a family, always make sure Dad is cared for, anything wrong, we will inform the person in charge.

I couldn't fault the home, my mum is always smiling, she's so content and happy, I can only put this down to the carers at the home. They treat her with love and respect. She has Alzheimer's which has deteriorated over the time she has been at the home, so her care is adapted and changed to suit her
needs. Really lovely home with lovely people and a great manager who always comes out and says hello.
Reply from Femi Shoyombo, Home Manager at Brewster HouseHi Catherine, It has been a pleasure caring for your mum. We always aim to provide great person-centred care that is suited to individual needs. We're happy to hear that we are meeting your expectations. Thank you.

My husband has been a resident for over four years. During this time, he has deteriorated considerably. I visit frequently and have always found my husband clean and cared for. My husband is not easy to manage and I feel the staff are considerate and caring.

Really nice visit today, Mum's former carer managed to get my relative into a wheelchair and took her to your well-kept courtyard where Mum was crocheting. Mum was brought tea and biscuits which was really helpful.

I have had great satisfaction with Brewster House Care Home. My mum needs extra support which her previous home was unable to supply. She is being very well looked after - always clean, well fed and treated with dignity.
The house always smells clean and fresh - again, completely different to Mum's
previous home. The staff are all friendly, nice and polite.
Reply from Femi Shoyombo, Home Manager at Brewster HouseHi Julie, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. The team at Brewster House, work really hard to provide the best person-centred care. I will pass your comments on to the wider team.

Overall, satisfactory but would like a little more attention paid when being dressed and particularly with undergarments. Also, care taken with hair.

My friend was admitted to Brewster House as a result of a hip fracture. She is a difficult person to deal with, very domineering, likes her own way and generally able to manipulate others. I visited her every week, unannounced, except for the first time and was always impressed by the ambience of the
whole place. The staff were welcoming, the manager and administrator took the time to make themselves known to me and the care staff always attentive to my friend. The food was good and nicely presented. I had previously heard bad reports of Brewster House, so I was delighted to see how well my friend was being cared for.

We are happy with the care and attention my mother has had during her stay. We do feel at times the staff are stretched, due to shortage of help. Even so, they cope very well. The girls in the laundry room are amazing. We have lost a number of clothing, but they have gone out of their way to find them!
On the whole, the staff are excellent and underpaid!

My dad has temporarily been put into a home. However, the staff are good. He had an infection and has been delirious, however he is improving and I have arranged with social services to bring him home. Disappointed that my father's belongings go missing, wash bag, 2 pairs of trousers, and shoes. He
has been taken to the garden. Other than that all is well.

My brother was admitted to Brewster House in February 2020 following an R.T.A. During the 14-months that he's been living at the home, he has been very happy and well looked after. I have always found the staff pleasant and very helpful despite working in these difficult and trying times. They have
gone above and beyond in helping residents and relatives to meet either by Skype or in-person, and the monthly Zoom meetings for management and the relatives are fantastic to hear what has and will be happening at the home. It also gives the relatives chance to voice their queries or concerns should they have any, as well as sharing ideas to help the residents feel at home and part of the community.

My Dad was cared for by the caring carers of Brewster House for the final few months of his life. It was an incredibly difficult time for my siblings and I and our children, as we had to come to terms with Dad and Grandad coming to the end of his life in the midst of the Covid19 restrictions. We knew
that the staff were under additional pressures, with strict measures placed on care homes by the government, but there was something that gave us great comfort - our Dad was content and settled. He had lost his wife of over 60 years in 2019 and had broken both hips - he was very sad and grief-stricken. To have to go into a care home was a big blow to him, but the fact that he had peace of mind was a testament to the kindly, professional team. One of the managers even made sure to send his Bible with him, once the undertakers had arrived to take him into their care. It was an act of kindness that showed their respect for his spiritual values and their desire to dignify a person's life.

We were so very sad to say goodbye to the deputy manager today, as she leaves to return to her home country. She has been absolutely wonderful in her support of our dear Mum. Nothing has been too much trouble for her as she deals with some difficult situations with Mum. She is so very kind, sensitive
and patient and goes way beyond the call of duty. We will miss her so much and wish her well in her future endeavours and feel sure she will be so highly valued in her next role.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.258)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.258) out of 10 for Brewster House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.647 for Brewster House is calculated as follows: ( (110 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.647
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.611 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brewster House is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.8 = 0.811
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

I started my career in care in 2014 as a Care Assistant at Loganberry Lodge. Over the years, I’ve progressed into leadership roles, gaining valuable experience that has led to my current position as Manager.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Management, I bring strong skills in leadership, planning, and team coordination. My professional development includes training in dementia care, medicines optimisation, and evidence-based practice, which have strengthened my ability to provide high-quality, person-centred care.

I’ve completed advanced qualifications in health and social care leadership, focusing on safeguarding, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance. A Higher-Level Apprenticeship in Adult Social Care further reinforced my practical understanding of delivering care in line with national standards.

I believe in honesty, fairness, and mutual support. My focus is on fostering a safe, respectful environment for both residents and staff, ensuring care is always compassionate and tailored to individual needs.

Job Title: Lifestyle Coordinator Joined: 2020

My name is Leoni, and I have been part of the Runwood Homes family since summer 2020. Initially starting as a carer, I transitioned into the Lifestyle Coordinator role in summer 2023—a role that truly feels like my calling.

Before joining Brewster House, I worked in a bakery and wasn’t quite sure what my next steps would be. However, within just one week of working here, I realised I had found where I was meant to be.

As many residents and families know, I have a deep love for animals, especially dogs. My dog, Cash Tennessee, often visits the home and brings so much joy to everyone.

I cherish coming to work each day, engaging in conversations, having fun, and helping residents enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle. It’s a privilege to be part of their lives, to plan trips and outings, and to make their wishes a reality whenever possible.

Being a Lifestyle Coordinator is more than just a job for me—it’s about building meaningful connections and making a positive impact on everyone at Brewster House.

My journey with Runwood Homes began approximately 15 years ago when I started as a Care Assistant. Over the years, I progressed to Senior Care Assistant and, for the past two years, have held the dual role of Unit Manager and Home Administrator.

I am passionate about building meaningful connections with our residents, their families, and friends. Ensuring that everyone in our care receives the highest standard of support and compassion is at the heart of everything I do.

Hi, I’m Andy, and I’m the Chef here at Brewster House.

My journey into the kitchen started somewhat by accident. When I was 17, my mum worked as a night senior in the care sector, which led me to take a kitchen porter job. From there, I worked my way up through the ranks, eventually becoming a chef.

I’ve now been at Brewster House for almost 3 years, and I’m proud to be part of a fantastic kitchen team. Together, we’re dedicated to creating delicious meals and providing excellent care for our wonderful residents.
