Since my mum became a resident at Brewster House on August 2017. I was very wary of care homes as with my job I have attended many local authority homes and some were very inconsistent and impersonal and not safe.
But from the day I brought my mum to Brewster House the staff right from the managers
to senior carers and carers, kitchen staff and admin staff all made my mum and us feel very safe, secure and caring which my mum enjoys. One example when I returned with mum from hospital we arrived back and mum felt at home and I felt a nice warm, homely, secure feeling, like coming home.

Mum has been a resident at Brewster House since January 2018 (respite) and now permanent.
It has been very hard for my sister and I making the choice of which home Mum should move into, but the staff at Brewster Home made the decision so much easier.
Mum seems very content and happy in this environment.
The staff are lovely and spend time with Mum and are very patient. Her daily needs are looked after. Mum loves ice cream and biscuits and these requests are made.
A big thank you to all the staff.

The staff are very dedicated and caring, also friendly and approachable. I am so confident leaving my mum in a very safe and happy environment and more importantly, she is very happy and content there. The only downside, in my opinion, is the lack of any activities due to no 'activities organisers',
the job is vacant at the moment. When the organiser was there my mum really enjoyed doing them as they were very stimulating for her. Hopefully, they will be able to resume their activities soon.

We are very pleased with Mum's care. Staff are always helpful and friendly and willing to help with any queries. After an initial couple of teething problems, which was raised with management, these problems were addressed promptly and have been of no concern since. The home is always extremely clean
and always has a nice fresh smell. The home is very well decorated and overall is a lovely home.

Review went well, Mum and family felt included and listened to. Home Manager is helpful and friendly and friendly staff are helpful and attentive. When staff are asked to do things Mum is well looked after and is happy to say at this home. She is given respect, dignity, choices, made to feel valued
and a special person. The activities at the home are varied. Brewster House is a good home for Mum.

Mum was admitted to Brewster House from hospital, January 2018. From day one the home has always been very helpful and informative. Mum was re-admitted to hospital and the staff were fantastic in organising ambulance and keeping her comfortable until she went to hospital. Mum is now going to be a permanent
resident, and although it was the last thing me and my Sister wanted to do, we know she is in the right place and the staff deal with her needs in a professional way.

My father is well looked after including medical.
I am in and out of the home at all times of the day, not at set times and have had nothing to complain about.
He is happy there is his own room which is quiet, but he likes to be in the lounge mostly joining in with games etc.
He likes the meals and
there is always tea and snacks through the day.
He has been living in the home for a year now and has had nothing to complain about.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.785)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.785) out of 10 for Brewster House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.780 for Brewster House is calculated as follows: ( (68 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.78
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.005 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brewster House is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.8 = 0.405
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

I started my career in care in 2014 as a Care Assistant at Loganberry Lodge. Over the years, I’ve progressed into leadership roles, gaining valuable experience that has led to my current position as Manager.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Management, I bring strong skills in leadership, planning, and team coordination. My professional development includes training in dementia care, medicines optimisation, and evidence-based practice, which have strengthened my ability to provide high-quality, person-centred care.

I’ve completed advanced qualifications in health and social care leadership, focusing on safeguarding, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance. A Higher-Level Apprenticeship in Adult Social Care further reinforced my practical understanding of delivering care in line with national standards.

I believe in honesty, fairness, and mutual support. My focus is on fostering a safe, respectful environment for both residents and staff, ensuring care is always compassionate and tailored to individual needs.

Job Title: Lifestyle Coordinator Joined: 2020

My name is Leoni, and I have been part of the Runwood Homes family since summer 2020. Initially starting as a carer, I transitioned into the Lifestyle Coordinator role in summer 2023—a role that truly feels like my calling.

Before joining Brewster House, I worked in a bakery and wasn’t quite sure what my next steps would be. However, within just one week of working here, I realised I had found where I was meant to be.

As many residents and families know, I have a deep love for animals, especially dogs. My dog, Cash Tennessee, often visits the home and brings so much joy to everyone.

I cherish coming to work each day, engaging in conversations, having fun, and helping residents enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle. It’s a privilege to be part of their lives, to plan trips and outings, and to make their wishes a reality whenever possible.

Being a Lifestyle Coordinator is more than just a job for me—it’s about building meaningful connections and making a positive impact on everyone at Brewster House.

My journey with Runwood Homes began approximately 15 years ago when I started as a Care Assistant. Over the years, I progressed to Senior Care Assistant and, for the past two years, have held the dual role of Deputy Manager and Home Administrator.

I am passionate about building meaningful connections with our residents, their families, and friends. Ensuring that everyone in our care receives the highest standard of support and compassion is at the heart of everything I do.

Job Title: Chef Joined: 2021

Hi, I’m Andy, and I’m the Chef here at Brewster House.

My journey into the kitchen started somewhat by accident. When I was 17, my mum worked as a night senior in the care sector, which led me to take a kitchen porter job. From there, I worked my way up through the ranks, eventually becoming a chef.

I’ve now been at Brewster House for almost 3 years, and I’m proud to be part of a fantastic kitchen team. Together, we’re dedicated to creating delicious meals and providing excellent care for our wonderful residents.
