Staff at New Copford Place have always been supportive of our family and friends. They appear to act quickly to resolve any issues and are happy to work with families for the best outcome for the residents. The new activities coordinator has, in my opinion, improved social activities. Unfortunately, the chef had left, so the food served wasn't as good, but a new chef is now in post, and this has improved again. The rooms are relatively small, but they are comfortable and can be personalised with the resident's own furniture, etc.

Overall, we feel residents are treated with care and as individuals. We would recommend New Copford Place for short-stay or long-term residency.

Dear Julia, thank you for your kind words. I am pleased you are happy with the new changes regarding the activities and the food served. We always strive to increase our standards in everything we do for all our residents and their families. Kind regards.

Having no experience of care homes, I am really pleased that we chose New Copford Place to look after my aunt. The staff are friendly, caring and approachable. Any concerns I may have are discussed and resolved quickly with a smile. My aunt, who is new to the care home, seems settled and happy already. She is well looked after and enjoys the meals. Her room is kept tidy and clean. The new activity manager is putting together an extensive activity plan and we receive weekly planners so that we can come along and join in too.

Hi Wendy, thank you for your kind words. Your aunt's sense of humour always makes us smile, specially when she talks about her childhood. We are always happy to see you, or any other family members joining the activities. Kind regards.

My dad appears very happy here. He is well cared for and looked after and the place is always clean. There were some minor maintenance problems with the boiler, however, I feel I can trust the staff always to ensure his safety and well-being. The staff are always kind and friendly when I visit.

Hi, thank you for your kind words. I am pleased we are able to offer you peace of mind regarding your dad's safety and well-being. It's a pleasure to have your dad here; he is always willing to share his knowledge and life experience with us. The boiler issues have been sorted and I spoke with your dad about it also. Kind regards, Care Home Manager.

Staff are always very helpful and give my mother exceptional care. The staff are always cheerful and friendly. My mother has dementia; she is at New Copford Place as a permanent resident. She has an ensuite bedroom, which is bright and clean with a view of the garden. She's very happy there. All staff are so nice, from management to staff in the office and carers. My mum gets on really well with all the staff, and the staff are fond of her and know her. So nice to see. Very clean and well-managed home. After trying several other homes which did not work out too well, Copford Place was by far the best in every way. The staff work as a team, which means everything is running as it should.

After researching many local nursing homes, New Copford Place ranked at the top! In every way!
The building itself is set in a beautiful country area. All of the residents’ rooms have French windows looking out to a wooded, pretty garden. It is a calming and inspiring view.
The building is all ground floor, giving easy access to all rooms.
The dining room, in particular, is like a restaurant with tablecloths, flowers and even menus, and the food is delicious!
All of the rooms are beautiful: clean, warm and cosy. We were able to furnish my mother’s room with her own curtains, desk, large photo boards and books, which has made all the difference to her settling in. She is immensely proud of her room and calls it her home from home!

I’ve saved the best ‘till last! The staff are wonderful! They are all efficient, friendly, welcoming, warm and happy! Nothing is too much trouble. The same can be said of the managers, who are at the helm and brilliantly running this beautiful residential home!

Mum was a resident of New Copford Place for more than 2 years. Not always an easy character, my Mum was always treated with patience and compassion, and a good sprinkling of humour, which really helped. The staff are fantastic and all contribute to the quality of care given, whether the cleaners or the managers. Following the relaxation of Covid restrictions the visiting was completely open; there are many places to sit and chat, their bedrooms, the gardens, one of the many lounges and the dining room. The staff were always very welcoming and caring of me, always a chat, and (if I timed it right) a cup of tea and cake. I always felt that Mum was safe, cared for and in the best place possible for her. Inevitably all things come to an end and Mum’s death was handled beautifully by the staff, I was there and they were fantastic in their presence and knowing when I was happy to be left alone with her too. I could not have asked for a better 2+ years for the last years of her life.

My Mum has been a resident at New Copford Place for the last three months.
As a family, we knew nothing about care homes; we visited a few and knew they were not for our Mum.
We stumbled upon New Copford Place by accident really, and we are so happy that we did.
It is an amazing care home; we cannot speak highly enough of the staff, such kind and caring people.

A lovely friendly atmosphere and our Mum is absolutely thriving there!

The food lacked variety, the towels were too thin and there were ants. I was reluctant to have respite care before, now I would consider doing it again to give my wife time off.

My parents are both in their 90s and spent a week at New Copford Place for some respite care. They had a wonderful experience - the staff could not have been more caring and engaging, the food was great and the manager and his team continually went the extra mile to make their stay enjoyable and safe. This also allowed the rest of the family some respite as we could be confident that the home had everything covered. Fantastic.

My wife has been a resident at New Copford Place since June 2021. I transferred her from her previous care home which was like a high-security prison. The care and love my wife has received since moving have been fantastic. Despite some difficult moments when she first arrived, their care has been exceptional. The management team are kind and I am allowed to visit as often as is possible - for which I am very grateful. Despite her dementia, my wife seems to be content and I really look forward to my visits.

My mother spent three weeks in respite care, following hip surgery. From my first contact with the manager to our day of discharge, we found the complete service to be professional, caring, supportive and totally appropriate for my mother's needs; despite the difficulties, all staff are facing due to Covid restrictions. Compliments must be sent to the chef and his team for the excellent food and choices offered. Mother will definitely return if needed in the future.

Overall Experience

Mum had been in hospital for several months after a fall at home but was not making good progress, failing to stand or even sit up for long and never out of her nightwear. She had lost all confidence and was becoming very anxious and depressed. However, from the moment we first met the manager of this home, we knew that Mum would be in good hands and were comforted that this would be the best place to move Mum to, to maximise her recovery. All the staff seem caring and patient and have managed to do so much with Mum since she arrived. With their encouragement, the lovely staff have slowly worked their magic and Mum is now up and dressed and walking to the cheery dining room and back. Mum is understandably still apprehensive and whilst she would prefer to have remained in her own home is slowly embracing her new home and all its benefits (even unexpected wine with dinner one day.) She will hopefully increase her participation in the many and varied activities available. Thanks to all.

Reply from Donna Owen, Manager at New Copford Place Residential Care Home

Thank you for the lovely review, Mary. It is so good to see Mum progressing as much as she has in such a short amount of time. The team are doing an amazing job at building her confidence and getting Mum back on her feet. We are really looking forward to when Mum is more settled and will want to...

Overall Experience
Mum became a resident here in March this year (2019) and whilst it hasn't been easy for her to leave her home and garden, the staff here have gone above and beyond to make her feel at home. From the manager asking how we would like the room decorated, to bringing her own furniture in and creating her own personal garden space outside, every request has been met with a 'will do' attitude. They have also instigated late-night snacks and drinks for a group of the more active members who are still up later on in the evening. There are exercise classes, art and small trips out to local areas and although it will never be her home, the staff spoil her rotten and have gone a long way to helping her settle in so well.

All in all, truly they have been great with mum.

My mother had led an independent life well into her nineties but started having a number of falls putting her into hospital. Having fractured a vertebrae, she needed respite care when she came out of hospital. New Copford Place did a superb job getting her back on her feet and walking again, to the point where she was able to go home and live on her own again. Unfortunately, she suffered a broken hip and arm following another fall within days of going home. New Copford Place went out of their way to get her back into the home after the hospital had sorted her out and have made excellent progress getting her back walking again. She is now a permanent resident at the home but in very good hands. The staff all take great care of the residents and it's a splendid place to be.

My mum was discharged from hospital, where her condition had really slumped and came to New Copford Place for respite care. Since arriving she has improved considerably. I believe this is due to the very caring nature of the people who work here and the manager's amazing energy and commitment to making the residents lives the best they can be. She really goes the extra mile to help people. I have visited at all times of the day, am always made very welcome and can see for myself that this is a good care home. The activities coordinator is wonderful - she is energetic and enthusiastic and I have enjoyed doing activities together with my mum. The care team here are so friendly and helpful that they create a very warm atmosphere for the people who live here. My mum is now a resident and I know she is in good hands.

I have nothing but praise for the manner in which my Mum has been cared for over the last five years. The staff are young but their youth has uplifted my mother over the years. The attention to detail over her appearance, cleanliness and general wellbeing have been second to none. Management and administration excellent. Mum passed away on 15th January at 95 years old. I know she had the happiest time of her life being looked after by New Copford Place.

Daniel SabauJob Title:Manager

“I have worked in the Care Sector since 2012. After beginning my career in care, I quickly realised that I was making a positive change in the lives of those people I looked after, which is so rewarding and something no other job was – and still is – able to provide.

I have been with Friends of the Elderly for nearly three years, becoming the Care Home Manager at New Copford Place in August 2020. I have a great team and we work closely together to ensure each resident is supported, inspired and receives the highest level of bespoke care which is tailored to their individual needs.

Our wide and varied activities programme is created through listening to our residents’ preferences, likes, hobbies and interests as making a positive difference in all our residents’ lives is at the heart of all we do, every day. All the Team gets involved and I’ve even been known to join in with the singing and dancing sessions.

The best thing about being the Care Home Manager at New Copford Place is seeing our residents smiling, as it makes me feel that I have, in some small way, contributed a little bit to that smile.”
