Review from Margaret J (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 January 2019 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

The home is well run and is providing a lovely caring environment for my mother. There are usually an adequate level of care staff and great efforts are made by most to engage with the residents in a kind and timely manner. There is a weekly changing schedule of activities and outings are planned. The home is well laid out with 'wings' of 9 ensuite bedrooms, and a lounge for each. Central to this is a very inviting dining room. The gardens and peace surrounding the home are a treat. The food is appetising, homely and a good variety is provided. Also, the catering staff are flexible. New Copford Place is kept very clean and presentable. All in all, it is hard to find fault; except maybe the slightly ageing carpet could be changed !!

Thank you for your review Margaret, the carpet has been placed in the costings for the 2019 budget, with some gentle persuasion from myself! It's a pleasure having Mum here at the home. Review appreciated, thanks again. Donna

I visited my aunt over the Christmas period and was very impressed by New Copford Place. The home was decorated beautifully and everyone was very welcoming. I stayed for lunch which was all home cooked and beautifully presented. Staff were professional at all times and my Aunt is very happy there. There was a wide range of activities going on throughout December including a trip to the Pantomime, well done to everyone at New Copford Place, a great home.

My stepmother has been a resident since April 2014. She has always been treated with compassion and friendliness. She passed away 6th November in the home. I cannot praise the staff enough. They treated her with great care during her end of life. They also treated us well. A lovely friendly caring place to be.

We have reviewed many homes locally and this is the best by far that we have seen. Mum is secure, well known and looked after, with a wide range of activities provided and good menu choice, as well as being able to ask for any food she would like.
The home is bright, attractively laid out with a central garden courtyard and Mum can also retire to her room to watch television, do jigsaw puzzles, or read if she wants to.
She looks physically more well now than she has for some time, she has her confidence back and is walking with an aid much further than she was and staff are kind and patient.

This is a very good care home.

After several years experience at New Copford Place, I can only speak well of this home. The residents are treated with care, respect, affection and dignity.

The activities are varied and can be inclusive if the residents desire. The food is excellent with good variety. The place is kept clean and has a good atmosphere.

Happy with the quality of staff, however concerned insufficient night cover for residents. Issues raised with the new manager have been dealt with in general. Time will tell with regard to the new management for daily activities!!!

My mother has been a resident of New Copford Place for over five years now and I have been more than satisfied with the care that she has received during this time.

Over the years the staff have come to understand the 'idiosyncrasies' that a 98-year-old is entitled to have and although not admitted very often, she does know that she is in a good place.

After a recent spell in hospital with a combination of problems including sepsis (which was spotted very quickly by the carers), everyone made it abundantly clear how happy they were to see her back and she has responded accordingly.

A recent residential review by Essex County Council concluded that the care and support provided met all my mother's needs and she was described as being in 'very good spirits'

More than that, I could not ask!

A friendly, amazingly welcoming home where my grandma is extremely happy and well entertained as well as cared for. Friends and relatives are warmly welcomed at any time and various activities are arranged to include friends and family too. All on one level, this home allows residents to be continually in view of staff, the food is fabulous as are the gardens. Various levels of ability and disability are catered for.

My Father has been a resident in this home for over 5 years now and has always been extremely happy here. As his Parkinson's disease has advanced, the care given has been adapted accordingly. The management and carers are extremely caring and compassionate. My son recently got married and as the event was about an hour away we were doubtful we could manage to get my father there. Once I'd mentioned this to the manager of the home, it was all organised within a day or so. Transport was arranged and a carer came with my Dad so he could attend and enjoy the occasion of his grandson's wedding.

There are many activities for the residents which my father enjoys. He regards it as his home and is very happy there.

My 96-year-old Mum has been a resident at New Copford Place for nearly 3 Years. She is in a lovely room overlooking a pleasant garden, which is full of wildlife.

The home arranges lots of activities, for those that wish to take part and last weekend we had a BBQ for residents and families. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are caring and respectful and I never have any qualms about leaving Mum there.

Daniel SabauJob Title:Manager

“I have worked in the Care Sector since 2012. After beginning my career in care, I quickly realised that I was making a positive change in the lives of those people I looked after, which is so rewarding and something no other job was – and still is – able to provide.

I have been with Friends of the Elderly for nearly three years, becoming the Care Home Manager at New Copford Place in August 2020. I have a great team and we work closely together to ensure each resident is supported, inspired and receives the highest level of bespoke care which is tailored to their individual needs.

Our wide and varied activities programme is created through listening to our residents’ preferences, likes, hobbies and interests as making a positive difference in all our residents’ lives is at the heart of all we do, every day. All the Team gets involved and I’ve even been known to join in with the singing and dancing sessions.

The best thing about being the Care Home Manager at New Copford Place is seeing our residents smiling, as it makes me feel that I have, in some small way, contributed a little bit to that smile.”
