Overall Experience
I was a resident here arranged by social services while awaiting adaptations to my home after a long stay in hospital.
The New Deanery is clean, cheerful and welcoming. The staff, in general, are friendly, kind and helpful. The home seems to be run efficiently. My room although small was clean and bright.

My only complaint was that getting even a small amount of medical help e.g changing a dressing was difficult. It wasn't clear who could and would do this.

My father moved into The New Deanery in December 2017. He had just been discharged from hospital and was still very unwell and I thought his days were numbered. He was unable to walk without staff support or do anything for himself. 3 months on and he has made a massive improvement, he can walk with a frame, dress himself and mobilise around the home with confidence. This is all thanks to the wonderful care and support from the staff at The New Deanery. He has really settled in. Thank you all.

Since arriving at The New Deanery a couple of months ago my mother has regained her interest in life. She tells me that the staff cannot do enough for her whilst still encouraging her to further her independence and maintain her dignity. They have encouraged her to walk further and she takes part in all of the very varied activities on offer, the range includes mental, physical, social and creative interests. Even after the planned activities have taken place sometimes the staff will do quizzes and sing songs with the residents. The food is good, hygiene is good and the grounds are lovely with good accessibility. There are also quiet lounges for those times when the residents want some peace for reading, doing puzzles etc. This is a very friendly Home with a welcoming atmosphere.

My husband has spent two separate weeks of respite care at The New Deanery this year. He is severely disabled after a massive stroke and is unable to communicate orally consequently needs a lot of care and support. He was warmly welcomed each time he visited The New Deanery. Detailed information on his care requirements was provided and followed by the care staff, although he cannot talk he can remember some of the old songs and the staff would sing a long with him he was very happy there.

My mother enjoyed a week's respite to allow me to take a holiday. We were made very welcome and mum was very to stay. All meals were excellent and all staff and carers treated mum with respect and friendliness.
On a persona; view, it was great to be able to book a place for mum in advance of my holiday.

We will be back.

My father has been a resident at The New Deanery for two years now and I cannot praise staff enough. If there is ever the slightest issue it is dealt with immediately. The building and grounds are maintained to an excellent standard, the staff are kind and caring. There is an excellent entertainment plan for the coming months, relatives are welcomed and involved and I am so, so glad this is my father's home.

The management and staff at The New Deanery could not be more helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and they have treated my mum with nothing but care, kindness and compassion.
Nothing is ever a problem for them and the day to day running of The Deanery is exceptional.
We were always welcomed and my mum is very happy there.
People talk about going the extra mile but this care home does that every single day.

They are truly remarkable and no praise is too high for them.

My mother has been a long term resident and has enjoyed her time at the home, she has always been treated with the utmost care and respect, all the staff have been
kind and affectionate with her, in genuinely understanding her needs.
I have nether had to make a complaint and have always felt re-assured by getting to know the staff that my mother has been cared for in the best place.

The atmosphere around the home is pleasant, friendly and relaxing.

I had concern regarding the care home due to newspaper articles. I am absolutely amazed at the care, patience and time dedicated by the staff. They are very kind, considerate and caring at all times. I listen to how they respond to other clients and have found the treatment to all patients to be outstanding. All of the staff from cleaning, kitchen, care and nursing is outstanding. I would absolutely recommend this care home, as it says in the name CARE and that is exactly what it is.

Rachel Marlow
Rachel MarlowJob Title:Care Home ManagerJoined: 1999

Rachel has worked at The New Deanery for over 25 years, starting as a Care Assistant and progressing her career with various promotions as Senior Carer, Team Leader, Deputy and eventually Home Manager.

Rachel's dedication and commitment to The New Deanery are very special indeed, and her passion for her residents and staff can be seen in everything she does. Having constant leadership has led others at the New Deanery to follow in her footsteps and progress their careers at the home, which in turn ensures our residents have a stable and consistent team to care for them.

When asked why she chose a career in care, she said, 'I just wanted to make a difference in the lives of the elderly.' We can certainly say she has done that and more in her quarter-century of caring for those living and working at The New Deanery.

Outside of work, Rachel is an avid cricket fan and enjoys travelling with her family and friends (but not her two furry friends, her cats Oscar and Smudge!).
