My father was admitted to The New Deanery after a bad fall which left him virtually imobile. He was just short of his 100th birthday and up until this time looked after himself at home. I cannot believe how well he has been looked after from senior management right through all the staff to the housekeepers
with no exception and the home is spotlessly clean everywhere we are now 7 weeks down the line father has agreed to become a resident thankfully. He has said it would be a job to kind fault and that 'he feels safe here'.
Reply from Rachel Marlow, Home Manager at The New DeaneryThank you for taking the time to share this, it's really lovely to hear.

We understand what a significant change this must have been for your father, especially after being so independent, so it's wonderful to know he has settled in well and now feels safe and comfortable with us. Hearing that from him directly means a great deal.

Your kind comments about the whole team are truly appreciated and will be shared across the home. Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback.

Best wishes,
Rachel

Visited for my grandads 100th birthday party. Room, facilities, food and carers were excellent. My grandad had a great time and was the next best thing to having it at home. I feel happy my grandad is safe and well looked after.

In my experience the staff at The New Deanery have been lovely - compassionate, caring and dedicated to providing high quality care. The grounds are lovely with modern facilities. There's always a positive staff attitude when I've visited, which I think reflects to residents and friends/family members.

My mum was a resident in the New Deanery for nearly 2 years until she died from dementia in February 2026. I can't praise the home and its staff highly enough for the way they looked after my mum. They became my mums second family and cared for he so well, going above and beyond. I could tell that
she was loved by many of them . As relatives you also become part of their family and they look after you as much as the resident. This was particularly evident when my mother was end of life when they gave me great support and comfort. My family and I were also very touched that some of mums carers attended her funeral.
The home was always spotlessly clean and smelled fresh whenever I visited, all of the staff were very friendly and always said hello and had time for a chat. The food was great too. Mums room was lovely light and airy and spacious , looking over the gardens, which are lovely to walk around.
New Deanery gave me the peace of mind that mum was cared for when I was not there
Reply from Rachel Marlow, Home Manager at The New DeaneryThank you for sharing such a heartfelt review. We are so sorry for your loss.

We're also very moved to hear that you and your family felt supported, especially during such a difficult time. Being there for our wonderful residents and their loved ones is something our entire team care deeply about.
Your kind words about the home, the staff and the environment mean so much to everyone here. Thank you for placing your trust in us to care for your mum.
Wishing you all the best,

My late mother died in December at The New Deanery right up to the end of her life she had excellant care and compassion. She was treated with respect and kindness. We as a family had confidence in her care and we felt that her carers were like part of her family. She enjoyed her food and had loving
help as she was unable to feed herself. All in all I want to say a big thanks you to all staff and management.

Both my in -laws have settled in very well. All staff, friendly and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble. Super home from home cooked meals, all their needs are catered for. Trips out available of which my in- laws enjoyed a recent trip to the pub. Mother in -law has enjoyed being pampered with
weekly visits to the hair salon within the home. Options for other agencies to come into The New Deanery eg chiropodist are available too.
All in all The New Deanery has a lovely welcoming atmosphere.

My husband was in the new deanery for one week respite whilst I was in hospital. The staff were very friendly and cheerful and couldn't do enough to help. My husband enjoyed his stay and talked about football nonstop which is his real love (after me)!! It was like a holiday for him, the food was very
good (delicious). He will be back in the future as he loves going there. I was very happy to leave him there as I knew he would be cared for.

My mum went into The Deanery as a resident due to an emergency situation when she became ill. The staff were absolutely fantastic, friendly, welcoming & reassuring towards her & us as a family.
Through - out mums time as a resident she received excellent first class care. Staff were extremely kind,
patient, friendly & professional.
All her physical & mental health needs were met. Mum had a restricted diet which the catering staff facilitated ensuring her nutritional needs were met. Managerial staff were available to discuss issues & provide us with support throughout her stay.
Mum being at the Deanery was an excellent experience which I highly recommend.

Respite and subsequent end of life care for my brother over a 6-7 week period; Lovely, kind and human staff throughout the team from cleaning and catering through to management and all care levels. Cheerful when we needed our spirits lifting and quiet and respectful when end of life care was put in
place.
Aimed to cater for individual food requirements, very supportive and welcoming to family member on round the clock presence~couldn't have received a more compassionate experience.
Very helpful in mitigating shortfalls in communication and service from a previous care provider on several occasions, which would have had significant impact on the end of life situation without the management staff's timely interventions. For that we are very grateful as a family, that we could ensure the end of life experience that he deserved and received at the New Deanery.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.820)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.820) out of 10 for The New Deanery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.820 for The New Deanery is calculated as follows: ( (371 Excellents x 5) + (75 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 449 Ratings = 4.82
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The New Deanery is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 93 registered maximum number of service users is 18.6, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 1999

Rachel has worked at The New Deanery for over 25 years, starting as a Care Assistant and progressing her career with various promotions as Senior Carer, Team Leader, Deputy and eventually Home Manager.

Rachels' dedication and commitment to The New Deanery is very special indeed, and her passion for her residents and staff can be seen in everything she does. Having constant leadership has led others at the New Deanery to follow in her footsteps and progress their careers at the home which in turn ensures our residents have a stable and consistent team to care for them.
