My mum has been in Prince Edward Duke of kent court for 6 years and the care she has received is excellent. Mum is very happy there and enjoys all in house activities. She often tells me that she is happy there and has a very good relaintionship with all staff.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Only there a week and therefore don't feel I can comment on management and activities which I did not use as did not see anyone. There was a fete I went to in my wheelchair and had the chance to look at gardens. Lovely view from room. Sadly tiny toilet/basin area and was unable to wash myself as could not get my seat into the area and under the sink to get close enough to wash. Plenty of lovely food (too much banana which sadly I cannot eat). Staff were very accommodating for special requests re food.

We have been confident that our aunt has been safe- well looked after for the entirety of the time she was living at this care home. We have very much appreciated the high standard of communications we have had with the staff.

My husband came to stay for just a week as respite for me. He hated it. He said that the carers were really lovely and couldn't have done more for him. But.. because of the open door policy he didn't sleep properly and he likes to sleep. He was horrified by the visions that he had of people who had lost control of their bowels or bladders..he said the smells made him feel sick. He has said he never wants to return to the home. Since he has returned home he has decided to make more effort in his personal care and with helping around the house, something he hasn't done for years! I hope you don't

take this as a criticism of the home. I thought it was as good as anywhere else I had seen. In the big scheme of things the experience of staying in the home was an eye opener for my husband and I think the result has been positive.

Reply from Michelle Sims, Home Manager at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court

Thank you for your review. I am please that he has settled back at home, and it has made him realise he is not yet ready for a care home. I will let the staff know they were supportive and made his stay a little acceptable. He kept us entertained and was chatty with everyone. We look forward to considering us if and when he needs respite in the future.

I was welcomed with respect as soon as I arrived. The room I had overlooked the garden and I was able to see and listen to the dawn chorus. The staff who looked after me 24/7 were excellent and did everything for me when I approached them. When I thanked them their response was ' that is what we are here for 'I could not have been better looked after. The food to my mind was superb. The staff in the dining room were very accommodating and the Managerial staff were outstanding in every way.

Staff were very good and very patient. Overall, my stay was satisfactory with supportive staff. The room was adequate but the bed was very uncomfortable. Having been told to press the buzzer if I wanted or needed anything, it sometimes took over half an hour for a response and on occasion not at all. It was very frustrating and annoying at not having my clothing returned to me from the laundry and sometimes being given other residents' clothing. I left the home with some of my clothing not returned to me. I was particularly upset at the loss of my drinking glass which I and my daughters asked about on several occasions. It was a birthday gift to me on my 90th birthday. The food was inadequate. It was poor quality and seemed to be at the cheaper end of the scale. The building and its grounds were beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the wildlife from the window.

From initial contact through the home visit prior to a taster experience and subsequent admission, all staff were extremely helpful understanding caring and kind in all respects. Helping a frustrated family help a frightened elderly lady with dementia from an intolerable existence with home care into a residential care facility. Every step was taken with understanding and consideration of the individuals fears and reticence to a happy conclusion and cheerful acceptance of a difficult transition from home to residential care. Without the help experience and kindness of the staff this could have been a very traumatic and brutal change. Gentle encouragement made this journey stress free for both family and potential resident. We have nothing but praise and gratitude for all involved at PEDOKC

My mother lived with my family for two after the death of my father who was her main carer . She was bed bound and needed carers four times a day
After a hard decision we placed mum in the care of The Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court Care Home .
Mum loved it there and I could change from carer back to daughter again .
The staff were amazing ,they treated my mum with respect and kindness on every level . And supported all my family during our visits .Mum began to deteriorate during her last few months and all the staff were wonderful . They informed me every time doctors ,nurses, paramedics were called out .
Mum has a peace plan put together and when the time was right mum passed away quietly at the home . The staff were all amazing and treated mum with dignity

They had not only become mums carers but also her friends .

Reply from Michelle Sims, Home Manager at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court

This was the third time that my husband had been a resident in Stisted Hall.
He is always made very comfortable and always very welcomed on his return visits.
The staff are always very helpful, kind and accommodating.
I needed a break from looking after my husband and went away for a very short break, I found other local Care homes (Southend on Sea area) not very accommodating a minimum of 2 weeks for respite!
Made a phone call to Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, who were very welcoming, helpful and sympathetic and took a great weight off of my shoulders.
The rooms are nicely decorated, comfortable and kept clean.
The dining room is large and airy and the food is very well presented.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this Care Home.

Unfortunately my uncle only spent a month at Prince Edward, and half of that was spent in hospital! The staff went above and beyond in their care for him and we all wish he could have spent his final days with them, but as he now needs nursing, the home is unsuitable for his needs. Thank you all for your care and support.

Since being there, I have seen a good improvement in her self-confidence. Individual care is excellent with a person-centred approach. Staff are welcoming and supportive, and the social interaction is great. The staff concert at Christmas was delightful and engaged everyone. It’s just like one big family home with joy, tears, friendship and support. Staff listen to any concerns and always let you know the outcome.

The care workers were of a very high standard indeed, and nothing seemed to be to trouble. I had placed myself into the home for respite care following breaking my leg as I thought returning home, even with four carers a day, was not an option. I live alone.
The care home was nice, clean and bright.
I joined in some of the activities, especially Choir Practice, for which I played the piano (I am a church Organist).
I have two Critisms
(a) I would have liked to receive my communion, but there did not seem to be a mechanism for this to happen. My own Vicar lives in Chingford.

(b) The second is very serious in that the food on offer was nothing like what is said in the brochure and the standard was more like school dinners and for the money I was paying each week was not really value for money. I am not going to state any examples, as I discussed with the catering manager.

Dear Peter, thank you for your kind review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay here and will pass on your comments to the care team. My wife has been a resident for over 3 years now and during that period has been looked after with care and kindness. She is always saying to me how happy she is living at the care home. I know from my visiting experience that the management and staff do their best to ensure my wife is cared for with a high level of professionalism. This high standard is even more noticeable considering the periods of lockdown due to Covid-19. I have full confidence in the home's ability to look after my wife to the same degree in the foreseeable future.

My husband was in respite for 2 weeks and I was very impressed by everything I saw. Everything was clean and welcoming. The staff right from management were extremely kind and caring which was a comfort to me as it was the first time my husband and I had been apart for 59 years. Management or staff were always happy to talk to me about my worries and the rest of the staff also talked to me if I needed it. They were so kind and caring with my husband which was lovely to see.

I'd recommend this establishment to anyone with a loved one that needs care. They are top of my list. Thank you to all staff.

When I wanted a fresh challenge, I thought I’d explore working for the RMBI Care Co. as I’d heard only positive things about its care ethos and support for its teams. I’m very pleased I did.

I’m passionate about providing the highest standards of care and working with the team to maintain Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court's 'Good' rating. Ours is a lovely home to live and work in, with its acres of beautiful gardens set in the middle of a golf course on the outskirts of Braintree, and it’s a huge privilege to work here and be leading the team. We are always striving to deliver professional, and individual care services which make a real difference in the resident's daily lives.

We strive to be Kind, to our residents, their families and each other because we are passionate about how we deliver care. We believe everyone should be treated with dignity and their wishes respected at all times.

We are supportive in our approach to care, placing residents at the heart of all we do. We treat each person as an individual, recognising the things that are important to them and working as a team to achieve this.

We are trusted, open and honest in delivering care to Freemasons, their dependents and the wider communities and work closely with our residents and their families to offer a safe environment.

In my free time, I like to spend quality time with my grandchildren, eat out and enjoy swimming.

I have worked for the RMBI for just over 18 years, it is a fantastic organisation to work for. The home is an amazing site to see when you drive up to the home through the golf course and the home emerges through the trees.

I started here as a carer and then slowly progressed to more senior positions over the years in supporting and meeting the needs of all of our residents in a positive and person-centred way, ensuring that we provide care to a high standard. The residents are at the centre of all we do to ensure that their time here is a happy and fulfilling one.

I feel privileged to have met and known so many of our past and present residents, getting to know what they used to do growing up and meeting their extended families.

It is always lovely to see families return when we have events that support the home.

We strive to embed our values of KInd, support and Trust towards all our residents, families and staff alike.

The home has a really happy feel to it and is much like home from home.
