With just 38 bedrooms and homely surroundings, Ashley House has a warm, family feel. The team, many of whom have been with the home for over 10 years, provides residential and respite care, which can be booked in advance.

The team is passionate about Sanctuary Care’s vision of Enriching Lives, which is based on the six senses people need to meet to feel truly happy and fulfilled – a sense of security, achievement, belonging, significance, purpose and continuity.

The residents are engaged with inspiring activities, including the Grow Your Own Way project, where the residents nurture produce they have grown from seed, which is then used in the kitchen by the chef, giving them such a sense of achievement and pride.

The residents have an active role to play in how their home is run, with Ashley House’s resident ambassadors getting involved in everything from supporting with interviewing potential staff, to providing resident feedback.

There are so many other activities to enjoy, from music and games with nursery children, who are regular visitors, animal therapy, baking, trips out into the community, arts and crafts and pampering in the hair salon.

Residents enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals in the dining room, prepared by the home’s chef. Sometimes, when living with dementia, people can struggle to make food choices, so the chef will present dishes at the table, to stimulate the senses and help residents to decide what they fancy. And every day the chef bakes cakes and other sweet treats for afternoon tea.

Ashley House also has its own bar – The Dog and Trumpet, with authentic pumps and memorabilia, where residents enjoy socialising with their favourite tipple!

There is a main lounge and lots of cosy spaces to relax with loved ones, who are welcome to visit at any time. Ashley House also has a Namaste room, where residents can relax in a sensory setting.

I come to see my friend every 2 or 3 weeks. She always seems very happy. She, of course, remembers very little - although sometimes surprises me by remembering names.

The staff at this care home have been absolutely wonderful with both my mum and dad. They helped them settle in quickly, and their kindness, approachability and professionalism give our family real peace of mind.

The home itself is always clean, tidy and well looked after, creating a warm, welcoming

atmosphere every time we visit. It feels safe and very well managed, which is so important with both of our parents living there.

There are plenty of activities on offer, and the team do a great job of keeping residents engaged and involved in daily life.

Overall, it's a very safe, caring environment, and we feel incredibly fortunate that both our mum and dad are being looked after so well here.

Observations show all staff caring. All staff speak calmly and friendly to all residents even under pressure from a difficult resident.
Staff are constantly observing if resident needs anything. They are compassionate and patient. Feeding those who need help to eat. I have never heard a harsh voice
but softly talking. The manager is very good in listening about how things are going, she has the attributes of a manager interested in welfare of staff and residents.

I am delighted by the care and support that Ashley House gives to my father. They recently went above and beyond in organising a 90th birthday party for friends and immediate family. He is very happy there and likes the food and people are wonderful.

Ashley House was recommended by a friend who had rated it highly in connection with the care of her mother. I have experience of a number of places with both parents who required care in their latter years and Ashley House was head and shoulders above the rest. It may not be an elegant building set
in beautiful grounds, but the quality of care is outstanding. The purpose-built nature of the building makes it feel far less like an institution or hotel and more like a home. It is homely and friendly and the staff, without exception were all kind, caring and attentive. Not once in the whole year and a half my mother was there, did I have any cause for concern in any regard. Ashley House has a happy atmosphere, there appears to be a very low turnover of staff and it is clean and well-maintained. My only comment would be the garden could be improved on a bit but that may well have already been addressed. I have no hesitation at all in recommending Ashley House.
Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Ashley House Residential Care HomeThank you so much for your heartfelt review and kind recommendation for Ashley House. We appreciate your suggestion regarding the garden and will continue working to enhance it. Thank you again for your thoughtful words and support.

On viewing the home I was 100% impressed, was so friendly, caring and very family orientated. Once Mum moved in much against her will as never wanted to go into a home she very quickly decided she wanted to stay even tho initially it was for respite. The relief of knowing she's safe 24/7 is amazing.
The staff are totally amazing, not met a member who is not 110% committed to making the lives of the residents like home.

Since my grandmother arrived at Ashley House in the winter of 2021 (initially for respite) she was treated with kindness, compassion and respect by all staff members. She has remained at Ashley House ever since and has formed some great relationships with other residents and staff.

Whenever I visit my mother, Ashley House is always clean and the staff friendly. It is obvious the staff all care for the residents, and I know my mother receives so much love and attention from them all. It is a difficult job for them looking after people of varying stages of dementia, but I never
see any signs of frustration or impatience.
I am always greeted by the staff with courtesy and interest, and they always update me with any changes that occur, in particular, related to her physical and mental health. I have occasionally taken my two dogs into Ashley House, and the excitement of all the residents and staff is palpable. It's such a joy to have them welcomed as they are always pleased to have strokes (and to hoover up any food that has fallen on the floor!).
I will definitely conclude that Ashley House has been a wonderful choice for me to house my mother.

I visited Ashley House before my mother was a resident and was welcome by friendly staff. What struck me most was the busy open room just inside the front door where residents were occupied with craft activities and also serves as the dining room. The rest of the home is bright and colourful. Outside
each room is a memory box that tells you a little about the resident along with their names. A brightly coloured 'front door' must be helpful for residents to find their 'home'.
Now that my mother is a resident, the staff could not have been more welcoming for what is a stressful time, nothing is too much trouble. Her room and ensuite are warm and spotlessly clean. Visiting is at any time and we have explored the home together visiting the resident budgerigar and fish, the hairdressers and various areas where friends and family can meet outside the resident's bedroom.
When I left my mother this morning she was looking forward to a tasty lunch and a visit to the shops later.

Residents are treated like family. Every resident has a 'front door' style entry to their rooms to feel like a home. The rooms are spacious for additional furniture. The residents are nurtured with activities and visitors e.g. the local nursery school come to play, sing, do puzzles etc. All the staff
have total respect for the residents and will happily play along even if the conversation is on repeat with residents' dementia. My granny feels like she is at home and is allowed to feel as if she is helpful and meaningful.

Very welcoming and happy environment, the lounge is always busy with residents. My mum has been in for two weeks and the difference is amazing. She is happy and loves the interaction with all the staff and residents. She came from sheltered accommodation and she had become depressed, no interaction
with anyone, the lounge was always empty. So I would definitely recommend to any of my friends to come and look around.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.634)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.634) out of 10 for Ashley House Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.859 for Ashley House Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (110 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 128 Ratings = 4.859
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashley House Residential Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
