Heatherside do such a fantastic job of looking after my grandmother. She has resided here for numerous years and the staff are always so bubbly, friendly and caring. The care and support she receives as a resident is more than we could have hoped for as a family. Thank you!

I could be wrong but it appears this home only works five days a week, Monday to Friday. Management is absent weekends. I would suggest a rolling process of five days on in seven where senior managers could be available weekends.

If this became available you would get an immediate answer. Now three to five days minimum.

Reply from Nicola Parsons, Care Manager at Heatherside Rest Home

Thank you for your feedback. We have management 7 days a week at our care home, our senior team are experienced individuals who can support the home in the absence of the manager. We always ensure that there is a responsible person on at all times should you require any senior attention....

I hated the idea of Mum going into a care home although Alzheimer's means that she needs help and also understanding. Heatherside Rest Home is not only very professional but provides compassion and genuine care. Add the beautiful surroundings and it's a happy, safe place to be. The staff are fabulous.

My mother is very disabled but I know she gets help and care despite staff shortages, covid regulations etc. The home is well run and my mother is in a pretty room.

The home are very thorough with temperature checks and making sure we are wearing a mask.

I have recently been made redundant as a cleaner in a Convent which closed. So I have had time to visit some of the residents that moved to Heatherside. 3 visits to 3 residents have all been very good, they all seem happy and settled. The care seems to be very good. Lovely atmosphere in the home. I will look forward to visiting in the summer in the garden.

My grandmother became a resident in March 2020. It has been a difficult year but my grandmother is very settled at Heatherside and staff are all lovely and very kind.
Communication is very good, especially when we have been unable to visit my grandmother in person.

I would definitely recommend Heatherside to other families that are looking for a care home for their loved ones.

My mother has only been in Heatherside for 2 weeks and has been in isolation for that period. Having had a traumatic last 18 months in and out of hospital and losing her husband of 60 years. The staff have gone out of their way to keep me informed as this is new to me also. Mum had lost interest in a lot of things and wasn’t very mobile, but I have today seen a photograph of her sitting in a chair and participating in some painting. It’s amazing to see such a change and that can only be down to the staff.

My mum went to Heatherside as an emergency as my dad was finding it hard to cope. She was there for 8 months until she passed away. All the staff I spoke to were lovely especially the manager. They do lots of various activities. They made a difficult time more bearable.

I think the home are doing an outstanding job in looking after my grandmother and making sure her and the other residents are safe. All the correct PPE to enable everyone is protected and so the visits can go ahead. They do lots of fun activities in which I follow on the Facebook page. My grandmother seems very content and always looks comfortable and clean. I couldn’t recommend them enough, the staff are always smiling and are very professional.

Overall it has been very pleasant dealing with Management and Staff at Heatherside. The manager does a good job communicating how things are especially through Lockdown, up to this point we have not been inside Heatherside due to Covid but we look regularly at their social media getting the odd picture of my mother in law. No matter who we talk to they all seem happy to give you an update, give you some time instead of fobbing you off.

My mum has been living at Heatherside just coming up to a year now, and she loves it there. The staff and management are really helpful, friendly and have looked after my mum really well and kept her safe during this horrible time (Covid-19). She has also made some good friends in the home. We feel happier her being with other people her own age and knowing she is looked after 24/7.

We're so very pleased that we chose Heatherside for Mum. She always seemed happy every time we visited. All the staff are so very friendly, like one big family. Several of who have worked there for years and really care about making Heatherside a nice place to live. There are activities most days, plus film afternoons, singers, BBQ's, parties, etc. to keep everyone entertained. The main lounge is very bright with lots of comfy chairs for both residents and visitors and looks out over the beautiful garden. The bedrooms are very roomy, nicely decorated and have their own ensuites and also have views of the garden or pleasant green areas. They even have two cats, two pigs and fish to keep everyone entertained. Thank you to all the staff there for looking after our lovely mum.

My Grandma became a resident at this beautiful care home the end of 2019, after losing all her confidence and was scared to stop living independently. However, she absolutely loves where she is, and the staff are just incredible with helping her gain her confidence back. Such a relaxing home setting feel, and even though these times we are all going through, the support has been amazing as well as now being able to visit her and see her through the window. If you are after a care home with a family feel (with pigs, fish and cats!) then I 100% recommend.

Ever since Mum moved to this lovely home, she has been treated with respect and dignity! All members of the staff treat Mum as their family. She absolutely loves singing and dancing which the staff join in too! As a visitor to the home, I am always made to feel welcome and kept informed on how Mum is.

My mother was resident from November 2019 until 11th of April when she passed away. I can't praise the staff enough to for all they have done for her, as she was not the easiest of people to get on with, but they took time to care for her. A big thank you for all you have done.

My mother has been at Heatherside for 3 years. On 13th January she reached the age of 104. Heatherside gave the most wonderful party for her. There was one entertainer who sang popular songs from the past. Delicious food was made by the manager and included a glass of wine. The whole day was put together by their activities organisers, with much help from the amazing, warm, friendly and ever-busy staff. My mother is lucky to be part of such a lovely caring home.

Upon visiting Heatherside Rest Home, we were welcomed in a happy and considerate manner. Staff spoke to my father as well as his family members, and he was included in all aspects of his care, needs, likes, hobbies etc.

He was welcomed like a member of the family, but due to his failing hearing and eyesight, he wasn't able to do as many activities as he would have liked.

My mother was a resident a Heatherside for 3 years. During that time, my mother and my family found Heatherside to be a lovely, welcoming, friendly place. The staff could not have been more helpful, caring and professional. I felt the staff really got to know my mother well and knew exactly what the best care for her was ( and for the other residents too). The consistency of staff meant that there were always familiar faces for the residents and staff would always report back, not only on the care of my mother but also on the things she had enjoyed doing that day. The staff often stopped to have a chat with residents and there has more recently been a much-improved programme of activities implemented. There was always a daily choice of food which is cooked on the premises so had a 'home-cooked ' feel to it.

The rooms are very light and airy and the large, garden was a lovely place to sit in. All in all the care my mother received during her time there was excellent.

Jessica Frewer
Jessica FrewerJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2011

My name is Jessica Frewer, and I am the Care Manager at Heatherside. I have worked at Heatherside for 15 years, starting my career as a carer. Over time, I have learned how important it is to create a home where people feel safe, supported and welcome.

Being a Care Manager means a great deal to me because it gives me the chance to support both our residents and our team every day. I truly believe that good care starts with a happy, supported team, so I do my best to make sure staff feel valued, and residents receive the very best care we can give.

What matters most to me is that every resident is treated with dignity, kindness and respect. I want the people who live at Heatherside to feel safe, listened to and at home.

I am always looking for ways to improve the care we provide, help my team grow in confidence and skills, and make sure our home is a place where residents can live meaningful, fulfilling lives.

Every day is different, and that is one of the things I love most about this role. Getting to know residents and their families, supporting my colleagues and seeing the difference we make together all mean a lot to me.

The values that guide me are compassion, respect, honesty, teamwork and putting people first. I lead by example, try to be approachable and always do my best to do what is right for our residents.

Outside of work, I’m a busy mum, and I love spending time with my family and my dog. I also enjoy travelling, baking and making memories with the people closest to me. To stay active and recharge, I go to the gym, take long walks and enjoy watching Formula One.
