My friend has been at Moorland House for a while now, I find the home very welcoming when I arrive, the staff are always friendly and accommodating and will always answer any questions I might have. My friend looks very happy and well cared for, he always has a smile on his face when interacting with

My mother was put into care after six weeks at Bournemouth hospital where at 100 she was deemed unable to go home alone. She settled in quickly at Moorland, treated with respect and a very caring staff. It was a relief to see her settled and happy. There is nothing they wouldn't do for her, including
a lovely 101st birthday! Thank you, Moorland, Barton on Sea.

Extremely impressed with the staff's attitude to the residents. Treated with empathy and dignity. The cleaning is very impressive, chairs cleaned, floors washed, which is a daily occurrence. Most importantly, there was also fun!

I am very glad that Mum is a resident in Moorland House. The staff are very caring and it's run by a wonderful director who goes above and beyond to make the residents happy and cared for. She organised activities most days to keep Mum happy, singing, playing games and favourite visits from the animals.
A hairdresser pays regular visits. Also has her nails painted. She has a cosy room with her personal things. Food is excellent. I am delighted that Mum is well looked after.

I find Moorland House Care Home to be very warm and comfortable and is made up of two lounges and a dining room for patients, the bedrooms are very nice with a toilet and washing facilities, wardrobes and dressing table and a comfortable bed. The food also is very good. They have a good-sized garden
where in the summer on warm days, patients can sit outside. I am very pleased that my wife is being looked after at Moorland House and she wouldn't be better anywhere else.

Such lovely staff, so patient and so respectful of all the residents, they deserve a medal. The care manager goes above and beyond her job role to inform us of any changes with our nan who is 103. They helped organise our nan's birthday celebrations through COVID regulations and coordinated video call
meetings with all our family. Any requests for extra tea and sweet treats for my nan are always given to Nan without any questions. It's not the most upmarket care home but what it lacks in style it gains in old-value traditional caring and support.

After moving my brother from another care home, Moorland House was so supportive of us as a family. He settled very quickly due to the support of the special manager and her team of great carers. I always feel very welcome, reassured and supported by the team. The home is such a lovely homely environment.
In the other home, my brother was isolated and never socialised but at Moorlands he comes down for all his meals and sits with his
'mates'. We as a family could not be happier with the care he is receiving.

Thank you to all the staff at Moorland House, especially the manager, for making my husband so warmly welcomed, settling him in and being cared for. It was a difficult decision for me to relinquish my role as his carer. The home is a happy place, very clean, with lots of activities. The food is excellent
with a varied menu, all freshly prepared. I really like the open door policy as it makes visiting easy.

Under new ownership with a very caring team, very responsive to the needs of both residents and relatives. The manager is all you could ever wish for in the role. Lots of ongoing improvement initiatives and excellent communication.
This is my second experience of two different care homes for both parents.
I have no hesitation in recommending Moorland House Care Home and the team as they are experts at making sometimes difficult and stressful situations easy and manageable for both residents and relatives alike. Five-star.

Moorland House was the perfect solution for respite care for mum. We found the care home to be very homely and comfortable. The home is kept extremely clean. We found the staff to be relaxed and calming, which was exactly the approach we needed over mum's fortnight, respite stay.
The staff at Moorland
House have a good understanding of dementia care, which is evident in every interaction.
We have no complaints whatsoever. Mum returned home happy and content.
Thank you.

The team treated my grandmother with such care and respect. She was always dressed well and cared for in the best way. The staff kindly accommodated her needs when she could no longer manage to get upstairs and my grandma always said how lovely and plentiful the food was. Cannot thank them all enough.

Moorland House helped us at a very difficult time with Mum, we needed emergency respite care which they provided to start with. We were greeted, Mum, me and my husband, with exceptional understanding and compassion and understanding of our situation by the manager which was such a relief during our
very desperate time.
The patience and caring attitude of the staff helped so much and it became very obvious to us we couldn't cope with her dementia with carers at home anymore.
Anyone who has been in this situation will understand how traumatic this is for the family.
The staff were reassuring and so kind and patient to both us and Mum. The room was large and comfortable with an ensuite and we were able to take Mum's things in such as her TV - all helping her to settle.
We are very grateful for all the help we got and how caring the staff were.
They were proficient at getting medical assistant as and when needed, which meant any treatment that was needed was prompt and any issue dealt with.

Moorland House has recently been sold and is under new ownership. We were very happy with the care my father-in-law received, but as he, unfortunately, died just as the new owner took over we can't say the same about the way we have been treated since. Having initially agreed to refund fees paid in
advance, we had 5 weeks of extremely poor communications and trying to avoid a refund before having to send details of their obligation under consumer law to finally receive a partial refund.
Reply from Cherry Funnell, Acting Manager at Moorland House

Thank you very much for your recent review regarding your father-in-law's care while he was a resident in Moorland house. We are pleased to hear that you were very happy with the care provided.

As you rightly stated, and as you may appreciate, as a new owner I had to familiarise myself with my new care home and check all the accounts to ensure a satisfactory solution was provided to you. I am sorry it took longer than you expected to be resolved, however, I trust that the matter was settled.

My mother is currently resident and despite her initial reservations and resistance to join in and embrace, she has now settled nicely. My husband moved into Moorland House recently after a stay in hospital and what can I say he has never been happier. The quality of care is exemplary, the whole of the staff team are all fantastic, particularly the home manager, office administrator, care coordinator and especially one certain carer
who is extremely professional and compassionate in all that she does. They have all been more than helpful. The food is of a very high quality. My Husband is encouraged to get involved in all the activities on offer, and I must say his social life is better than mine. I would recommend Moorland House to anyone who is looking for a care home.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.449)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.449) out of 10 for Moorland House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.649 for Moorland House is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.649
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moorland House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manger Joined: 2023

I came to Moorland House 6th February 2023

I started my career in adult social care back in 2000 working at a local nursing home starting off in the kitchen as the weekend tea girl, from then on it became obvious to me that I had found my calling in life.
I quickly transferred across to the caring side of things and never looked back. I have worked my way up to registered manager having completed my Diploma in health on social care level 5 in 2016.

I enjoy spending time with our residents and their families, getting to know them on a one to one basis, helping them integrate into care home life, believe it or not - it can be really fun! but also helping them navigate any trials and tribulations they maybe facing.

We at Moorland House are more than just a care home, we are family.
