Moorland House is a residential care home located in Barton on Sea, Hampshire, just moments from the coastline. Set in peaceful seaside surroundings, the home provides a comfortable environment where residents can feel at home.

Part of the privately owned Merling Care Homes group since August 2022, Moorland House has benefited from significant investment in its facilities, leadership and team, strengthening its commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

Intentionally small in size, Moorland House ensures every resident feels known, safe and valued. The home provides 24-hour residential care and support, including short-term respite stays and long-term care for those who are no longer able to live independently. A dedicated team is available around the clock to provide consistent and compassionate support.

As this is the residents’ home, not simply a care setting, 24-hour visiting is welcomed, allowing family and friends to spend time together whenever it suits them. Moorland House is led by clear values centred on understanding, trust and respect, with a strong focus on creating a stable and supportive environment for every resident.

When I visit my nan I'm always made welcome by staff. My nan always looked well after and there is always activities and entertainment on, that everyone enjoys. Moorlands feels a very 'homely home', they receive tasty home cooked meals which I have sampled as I often stay for lunch or supper.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.466) out of 10 for Moorland House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.766 for Moorland House is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.766
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moorland House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Lisa Wallace is the Home Manager at Moorland House and brings a calm, structured and compassionate approach to leadership. With a strong background in residential care, Lisa is committed to ensuring that every resident receives person-centred support in a safe, welcoming and professionally run environment.

Since taking on the role at Moorland House, Lisa has focused on strengthening team development, enhancing care standards and building positive relationships with residents and their families. She believes that consistency, communication and mutual respect form the foundation of high-quality care. Her leadership style is supportive yet accountable, ensuring that staff feel confident in their roles while maintaining clear professional standards.

As Lisa often says, “We at Moorland House are more than just a care home, we are family.” This belief underpins everything she and her team do. Under her management, Moorland House continues to develop as a close-knit community where residents are encouraged to maintain independence, enjoy meaningful activities and feel genuinely at home. Lisa’s focus remains simple and consistent: to provide safe, respectful and dignified care delivered by a confident and well-supported team.
