Thorngate Living's Russell Churcher Court residential care home was purpose built in 1993. It has plenty of bright communal areas and is set in its own grounds with well maintained tranquil gardens.

The home's 44 modern self-contained flats all have their own front door opening onto a central corridor. Each of the mostly south-facing bed-sitting rooms has a toilet, shower and a small kitchenette with space for a fridge as well as air conditioning.

There's a popular activities programme which residents enjoy if they decide to join in, and delicious home-cooked, nutritious meals. Residents may prepare their own hot drinks if they wish. Thorngate Living encourages all residents to personalise their rooms with small items of their own furniture and belongings to help them feel comfortable and at home.

Russell Churcher provides individual resident centred care that focuses on the residents needs and wants.
Russell supports the family and ensures they communicate with the family regularly to besr support the resident.
We cannot recommend Russell Churcher more highly for care, consideration, warmth

All staff are amazing from reception to office to kitchen to laundry to entertainment team.

My Nan has now been at RCC for a year. Overall we are very happy with the care recieved here.
Every single member of staff here is amazing. So friendly and caring, I do genuinely believe they go above and beyond here.
Nan continues to comment on the quality of her meals here, she thoroughly enjoys
them.
I would not hesitate to recommend RCC to anyone. We have great peace of mind, knowing Nan is safe, happy and well cared for. Thankyou all.
Reply from Anne Taylor, Chief Executive at Russell Churcher CourtThis is such a wonderful and kind review and we are most grateful to you for taking the time to leave it. My aunty is content at Russell Churcher Court. They are quick to respond to any changes to Aunty's usual state and respond to relatives well. They listen to any problems we may have. The food is very good. Aunty needs a low fat diet and this is taken into account. Aunty has been at Russell Churcher
for 9 years. She has had ups and downs but is treated well and staff respond well to her mad sense of humour. The room is clean and smells nice.
Reply from Anne Taylor, Chief Executive at Russell Churcher CourtThank you so much for such a great review - we are delighted your aunt is content at Russell Churcher Court. Thank you for your comments about our support for relatives, the food and the cleanliness too. All the team appreciate them. We look forward to continuing to support you and your aunt.

My mother joined RCC in May 2025. She had settled very well, and she was happy. Unfortunately, following a 10 day stay in hospital she was very poorly, traumatised and had completely 'given up'. Thanks to the support, kindness and encouragement from the RCC staff, when she returned home, she is now
much better and more like herself again. I genuinely believe she would not have pulled through without the attention and care from every single staff member. Their care was also extended to me, as I was spending long hours at RCC; everyone made sure I was ok, and reassured me that my mother would get better. Our family is very grateful for the care our mother has received - thank you so much.
(RCC has a lovely conservatory but sadly it leaks whenever there is rain - it would be wonderful if it could be repaired or replaced as it is a good resource for the home).
Reply from Anne Taylor, Chief Executive at Russell Churcher CourtThank you for such a lovely review. We are so glad that your mum is thriving. We look forward to continuing to support her and you going forward. Thanks you also for taking the time to leave the review. We are looking at ways to deal with the conservatory roof and quotes are incoming so my hope is it won't be too long before this is resolved.

My Mum was moved to Russell Churcher Court after a fall, and it became apparent that she could not look after herself. In many ways, she has been a reluctant resident, thinking that she could go 'home' - for nearly two years now. All the staff go out of their way to engage with her, encourage her
and are kind. They have helped her to maintain her dignity and make her own choices, as far as she is able.
The care home is clean and the rooms are spotless.
Reply from Anne Taylor, Chief Executive at Russell Churcher CourtWe really are very grateful to you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review. Mum has lived here for nearly a year and we are still really happy with our choice of home. Still can't believe how fortunate we were to get her a place.
All the staff are so friendly and happy, not only with the residents but also visitors.
Mum's needs are well met, she is comfortable and happy.

Our relative has been a resident for nearly a decade. She is settled, happy, respected, well cared for. She has no worries.
The staff cope wonderfully well with the sometimes outspoken attitude. Our relative's sense of humour and eccentricities are fully catered for. Thankfully, our relative is popular
with staff.
If we have concerns about our relative's care, health and wellbeing, we are encouraged to share our thoughts, and we are always made to feel our views are welcome, and respected.

Staff seem very friendly and supportive to the service users. Keep myself aware of any changes to my mum who lives at Russell churcher. Staff make you feel welcome. The home appears to be kept lovely and clean. House keeping doing a marvellous job. Kitchen staff are very friendly and the food looks
to be served to a high standard. Mum hasn't mentioned any issues with the food. If anything mum looks to be gaining weight ( this was needed) .

All staff are invariably cheerful, positive, helpful and have a genuine interest in supporting my mother throughout the day and night. Nothing seems too much for them. The activities they provide for residents are stimulating and engaging.

My mother has in her later years refused to leave her home

even when her mobility and cognitive health made it almost impossible to cope there. Over Christmas we persuaded her to try Russell Churcher Court on a trial basis. Since then she has never wanted to leave!

My mother has been at RCC for quite a number of years there have been a lot of changes but one thing that has not changed is how the residents and families are treated by the carers. I have always found the carers to be friendly not just for residents, but for families too. The staff are lovely, always
smiling, and they really take the time to get to know everyone.
My mum's room is clean and comfy, and the shared spaces are bright and welcoming. There's always something going on games, crafts, entertainment and outings. My mum joins in with activities that she enjoys especially the crafts and games.
I am always informed by phone or email if there is anything I need to know about Mum's health or any special event happening at RCC. I especially like that families are invited to the residents' meetings which I like to attend whenever I am able. If I have any concerns, I can always bring them up with senior staff or the management team who are always on hand.

Our mum is very happy at Russell Churcher. She is always saying the staff are always nice to her and the food is lovely. There are a good range of activities most days. Mum has good personal care and her clothes are laundered to a high standard. Her room is always clean and tidy as is her bathroom .
The
staff are friendly and all employed so no agency workers so the residents get to know the staff. I would highly recommend this home.

Russell Churcher Court is always very welcoming, clean, tidy and well looked after when visiting with a homely atmosphere. Staff are warm, friendly and always have time to support and answer any questions. The care and attention to the residents individual needs is of the highest quality and staff provide
care, support and warmth with lots of smiles. There are good quality meals and there is a varied menu each day. There are daily activities as well as trips out throughout the year. Mum has been a resident there for a year just and she has a medical condition making change very difficult and her understanding of this. From the moment she took up residence, staff made her transition easy, paying attention to her specific needs and my serious concerns about this having a detrimental effect on her health and wellbeing were quickly relieved, as with their help and expertise she settled so quickly and has been very happy there since.I am extremely pleased I picked here to care for my mum.

From the moment I entered the residence, I was welcomed warmly in a genuine manner, this was the care with all the staff I met. Everyone was friendly, helpful, professional and clearly committed to working with the residents. Nothing was too much trouble for staff, they showed endless patience and were
fully supportive to my aunt and other residents in every way. The home has a happy atmosphere, I can't think of anywhere else that I would want my aunt to receive care in.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.821)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.821) out of 10 for Russell Churcher Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.821 for Russell Churcher Court is calculated as follows: ( (233 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 280 Ratings = 4.821
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Russell Churcher Court is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
