Thorngate Living's Russell Churcher Court residential care home was purpose built in 1993. It has plenty of bright communal areas and is set in its own grounds with well maintained tranquil gardens.

The home's 44 modern self-contained flats all have their own front door opening onto a central corridor. Each of the mostly south-facing bed-sitting rooms has a toilet, shower and a small kitchenette with space for a fridge as well as air conditioning.

There's a popular activities programme which residents enjoy if they decide to join in, and delicious home-cooked, nutritious meals. Residents may prepare their own hot drinks if they wish. Thorngate Living encourages all residents to personalise their rooms with small items of their own furniture and belongings to help them feel comfortable and at home.

Just wanted to acknowledge what a terrific job all the staff are doing at the care home through these difficult times. Have been to visit my mum 'through the window' this morning. The staff were caring and attentive and clearly knew my mum individually and were positive and supportive.
My mum has been
a resident for over 10 years, the care she has received has been amazing. I have no doubt in saying that she would not be here today had it not been for these good folk. The home is well organised but what strikes me most is the genuine care which the staff demonstrate and their commitment. These guys should definitely be included in the Thursday night cheer!
Reply from Anne Taylor, Chief Executive at Russell Churcher CourtYou are very kind, I will pass this onto our teams today. Thank you so much.

My mother has been a resident in the home for four months now. I have been impressed with the way she has been treated since her arrival and the care she has received to date. The staff are professional and motivated and interact well with residents. The home is well managed and a comprehensive programme
of entertainment and participative events organised throughout the week.

From day one mum has felt very very welcome, nothing is too much trouble, mum fits in and it feels like home. She is extremely happy with the decision to go there and sell her home after many many years of living there with my late dad. She has got more confident and looks happier and healthier. I would
like to thank everyone involved for putting my mind at rest so I can sleep better at night too.

My mum's been here just over a year. She has Alzheimer's. She seems happy and settled. She's put a lot of weight on, which is concerning, but she's well looked after.
Though I am very happy with her care, it would be nice to have more contact about her health issues (as I live away and can't visit
regularly).
I do get some email updates occasionally - but not about her health so much.
I know the home is busy and folk seem lovely, it would be nice to be a bit better informed/updated re mum's health/wellbeing in reality.

Visited friend: Staff friendly and helpful. My friend is happy and on good terms with all the staff and enjoying a visit with therapy dogs. The building is clean and well cared for, with lovely decor and flowers, like a hotel. Nice relaxed atmosphere throughout.

My mum has lived at Russell Churcher Court for over three years and both of us are very happy with the care she receives. The purpose of this review, however, is to comment on the wonderful work the Activities team has been doing to make the home a lovely, stimulating and cheerful place to live in.
The corridors are decorated very imaginatively and attractively and the dining room decor changes in line with seasonal celebrations, Christmas, St Valentine's etc.

I attended the Residents' meeting on 29 March. It was a full house with many residents and family members in attendance, all being served tea and home-baked cakes and made to feel welcome and listened to. After a discussion of items on the agenda, we were presented with the new mobile shop which really impressed everyone, it is so prettily decorated like an old fashioned ice-cream cart! It will make shopping a pleasurable experience!

The imagination and enthusiasm of the Activities team really deserve commendation.

Having visited this Care Home on a few occasions now, I can confidently say this has to be one of the most caring and compassionate homes I’ve been to. It’s immediately evident from entering the vast grounds, that it’s extremely well looked after with no litter and plenty of greenery.

When you enter

the building, the entrance is secure to safeguard the residents and you’re welcomed by a wonderful receptionist. The courtesy and respect shown to the residents throughout the clean and well-maintained areas is a pleasure to see. It’s clear the staff care about each of the residents and nothing seems to be too much for visitors.

Food served is excellent in variety and served by chefs who, again, show pride and passion in what they do. I was impressed to see the organisation of meal times when I visited, and the time carers took with residents.

Overall, I highly recommend the service and find it caring and very well led. Thank you for treating residents as if they were your loved one.

Our mother has been at Russell Churcher Court for just over 18 months and is very happy. Her room is lovely and bright, and the communal dining room and lounge have been recently decorated and are cheerful and very pleasant.
I visit regularly and always find the staff caring and respectful to the
residents. While I am there various people come to see Mum to tell her about the day's activities, discuss her choice of meals, offer her a warm drink or just to see she is OK. I, therefore, know that when she is feeling unwell and stays in her room she is being well cared for and not feeling alone.
The activities are varied and include word games, bingo and crafts, all of which Mum enjoys. They celebrate every event possible, World Cup, Royal Wedding, Valentine's Day, etc. by decorating the home and also arrange trips out. An excellent care home and we have no regrets with our choice.

My mother's room is always warm and cosy and inviting. The food is appetising and tasty. The staff are warm, friendly, caring and welcoming. I worried about my mother going into a home but I always came away relaxed knowing she is in good hands. During a recent illness, she was monitored and taken care
of following a doctors visit.

I recommend this lovely home and if I ever need to go into a home, I would certainly choose this one.

Since moving into Russell Churcher Court last Autumn, my aunt has settled well and feels very much at home. Her room is well appointed and of a reasonable size and the bathroom is excellent. She is encouraged to join in with activities on offer and her experience there has truly offered her a new lease
of life following the loss of her husband. She has made good friendships and built excellent relationships with the lovely staff.

I have been to a few other care homes, where my husband has been for a short stay for respite but in my opinion, they did not reach the same standard as Russell Churcher Court. Such a lovely, homely atmosphere, no problems at all.
All the staff are so kind and I spend quite a lot of time there.

Lovely care home, the staff ALL of them are so kind and caring to all residents, they are so good at keeping us informed of anything Dad needs. We were concerned about him needing to move to a home for his own safety but we could not have found a better home. Dad is happy, he has his own en suite room
and his own furniture.
Since moving there at the end of April Dad has got more life in him and he enjoys the activities.
Dad is so well looked after if I can't get in to see him I know he is quite safe where he is. He was unwell and had to go to hospital. I received a call as he was taken to hospital and the home and I kept each other up to date on what was happening. Dad has his dignity and respect which is very important. It is such a nice place. My daughter age 29 said she will move in after seeing the care and attention her Grampy gets. If anyone asked me I would say its the best home in Gosport.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.821)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.821) out of 10 for Russell Churcher Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.821 for Russell Churcher Court is calculated as follows: ( (233 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 280 Ratings = 4.821
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Russell Churcher Court is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
