Thorngate Living's Russell Churcher Court residential care home was purpose built in 1993. It has plenty of bright communal areas and is set in its own grounds with well maintained tranquil gardens.

The home's 44 modern self-contained flats all have their own front door opening onto a central corridor. Each of the mostly south-facing bed-sitting rooms has a toilet, shower and a small kitchenette with space for a fridge as well as air conditioning.

There's a popular activities programme which residents enjoy if they decide to join in, and delicious home-cooked, nutritious meals. Residents may prepare their own hot drinks if they wish. Thorngate Living encourages all residents to personalise their rooms with small items of their own furniture and belongings to help them feel comfortable and at home.

Funding & Fees What's included?

Weekly Charges per Person

  • Self-Funded Residential Care: £1355 – £1660
  • Self-Funded Residential Dementia Care: from £1660

These fees cover all our services while in our care, such as accommodation in our large en-suite rooms, care, laundry, food, heating and lighting, and most activities. They do not cover some special trips, for example garden centres or pantomimes where an entrance fee might apply.

Neither do fees cover specialist services such as opticians, hairdressing or podiatry. They do not cover personal items such as toiletries, or clothing labels. Cable television and broadband is a service increasingly requested by residents and this is available at an extra charge from providers. If you need to visit a hospital for an appointment and your relatives or representatives are not able to provide you with an escort, we can advise you in advance how much we will charge you.

The staff at this home have, over the last 4 years, looked after my mother who had vascular dementia. This condition became worse over time but never once did I hear a raised voice. Every member of staff worked with a smile and also treated visitors with respect and care. Their professionalism was exemplary.
They made my mother's last years more comfortable and manageable and I really cannot fault them in any way.

In all the years that my sister has been a resident at Russell Churcher Court, there has never been a time when I felt that my sister was not being looked after in a professional and kindly way.

My husband is always met with a friendly greeting. He has the same room which makes him feel secure. The home has a relaxed atmosphere offering good food, various entertainment and excellent service at all times. He always comes home in good spirits which I think is a good advert for the home.

I am very grateful that my husband is in such good hands and would not wish him to be moved anywhere else. The staff are very kind to us both. They have been quick to obtain medical help frequently as he has deteriorated in health which gives me peace of mind.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.821) out of 10 for Russell Churcher Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.821 for Russell Churcher Court is calculated as follows: ( (233 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 280 Ratings = 4.821
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Russell Churcher Court is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
