My mum has been a resident at Stroud House for nearly two years. In my experience, her care has been excellent. Mum, by the way of example, went into the hospital very poorly and acquired bedsores while in the hospital. Upon return to Stroud House, she was given the care she needed to recover completely from her bedsores. Excellent.

My husband has been treated with great kindness and the home has gone out of the way to provide an environment that reassures - for example, ensuring that cricket is always available on TV and providing the good food that he likes. The staff have all been very kind and patient, especially while he was getting used to the home and new faces.

My mother passed away peacefully at Stroud House in May. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all of the wonderful staff who were so kind and caring to her from the word go. They went above and beyond to ensure that she was always as contented and happy as she could be, especially as her health deteriorated. We, her family, are so grateful for the enormous support we were given during the last few days of her life, which made an incredibly sad time so much easier to bear.
I would heartily recommend Stroud House to anyone who is suffering from or who has loved ones suffering from dementia; you are not just in safe hands - you are in the caring hands of staff whose compassion knows no bounds.

The staff are always encouraging the residents to be as independent as they can to maintain their interest and join in with favourite activities, whilst being treated with respect at all times. Contact with families is excellent, we were always kept in the loop with what was going on.

I cannot speak too highly about Stroud House. Mum was there for about sixteen months and was always treated kindly and with respect, even when her behaviour was challenging. She was encouraged to be as mobile as possible, and she particularly enjoyed quiz afternoons and visits from the small animals. The staff were always professional and genuinely cared about the residents. As family members, we were always made to feel welcome, and communication was excellent. During Mum's final weeks, the staff showed great kindness and empathy to my brother and I, which made a truly difficult time much easier.

Stroud House is a very caring environment for my mother. She is well supported by caring staff and management. Lockdown has been very difficult for both clients, relatives and staff alike, Stroud House has always followed Government rules to the letter. I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to anyone who has a relative with dementia.

We are very happy with the care that our sister gets in Stroud House. Every carer seems to know our sister and what she has been up to and eaten each day. Very important as she doesn't eat very much. They seem to have underlying patience - not easy with my sister, who won't allow them to carry out simple hygiene like showering.

As visitors, we always received a friendly welcome and staff were always willing to discuss any aspects of the care of our relative. The home was good at keeping us informed of any changes in health or care needs. We sometimes made unannounced visits and always found the home clean and well maintained. Our relative's room was always found clean and tidy, and her belongings were treated with respect.

My mother received very good care throughout her time at Stroud House. In particular, she was cared for with sensitivity and attention during her end of life. The care staff are exemplary, work as a team and support each other. Residents are clean and well looked after, laundry is done regularly and items rarely go missing. The care is second to none. The facilities and ambience could be better.

My mum has been living at Stroud House for nine and a half years. She has received the best care anyone could wish for. My mum isn't always the easiest of people living with dementia but the staff are really good with her, always meeting my mums needs.

Whilst Stroud House was scruffy, the level of care given to my late husband's short stay was second to none. The staff gave my husband a level of care over and above the line of duty, and on many occasions, the manager and her staff stayed on well after their shifts had finished. The staff were also very courteous to myself, my husbands family and friends.

Reply from Paul Rogers, Managing Director at Stroud House

Dear Mrs C, thank you for your review and recognition of the amazing work that our staff do, I know that they appreciate this. I am sorry that the home was not in the best condition. This is mainly because we were expecting to start some building work, as this has been postponed we have restarted our refurbishment program.

New care home manager in post wanted to do a care review with my grandmothers next of kin. We discussed her care in general, and recent hospital admissions and any other info or concerns we had. She was excellent in addressing any queries or concerns we had and proactive in implementing any suggested care practices. Since new care home manager arrived my grandma (with advanced Alzheimer's) is far less confused, more alert and engaging. She was underweight, but with review of her nutritional care and implementations of food changes, she has gained 15% of her body weight and eating better. The staff all clearly care for her and us is so appreciated.

Mum was admitted to Stroud House after weeks in hospital, on the orders of Social Services, and I wanted her back home with us as we had cared for her for 13 years. I found the experience very distressing but the staff at Stroud were so wonderfully caring and supportive of both Mum and myself. I have now come to terms with Mum being in care, due to the wonderful level of care and support she receives. I am so pleased that we chose Stroud. The location is lovely too.

If you are considering a care home for a relative, the professional advice is to research a few. We visited Stroud, then looked no further because the genuine care was so impressive. Residents are offered a range of activities to engage, stimulate and exercise. Outings include the seaside, the Heath (local beauty spot), the pub opposite. Relatives are kept well informed. Daily routine accommodates residents preferences eg., bedtime. Everyone employed is exemplary - a fantastic team. Any concerns are addressed immediately and practically. I visited twice a week and believe the quality of Mum's life is enhanced by being at Stroud House.
