Stroud House: Nestling near the foot of the Downs is in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The small, homely Home, can care for just 25 people, fitting the sensitive needs and feelings of those living with dementia. Their aim is to provide a strong sense of community and the best tailored care on an individual basis.

To do this they focus on feelings and cherish each person’s unique life and character from the moment they join their family. They find that this deeper understanding allows them to stimulate mental health as well as looking after physical needs.

The home has been adapted to provide a safe secure environment for dementia. With most rooms on the ground floor, assisted baths, a wheelchair accessible shower room and a beautiful secure garden.

They provide fresh nutritious and tasty home cooking from professional chefs who know everyone and their specific dietary needs. Plus, outings, musical events, specialist diversional therapy, birthday parties, and personalised activities that are intrinsic to daily life.

Stroud House is a very caring environment for my mother. She is well supported by caring staff and management. Lockdown has been very difficult for both clients, relatives and staff alike, Stroud House has always followed Government rules to the letter. I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment
to anyone who has a relative with dementia.

We are very happy with the care that our sister gets in Stroud House. Every carer seems to know our sister and what she has been up to and eaten each day. Very important as she doesn't eat very much. They seem to have underlying patience - not easy with my sister, who won't allow them to carry out simple
hygiene like showering.

As visitors, we always received a friendly welcome and staff were always willing to discuss any aspects of the care of our relative. The home was good at keeping us informed of any changes in health or care needs. We sometimes made unannounced visits and always found the home clean and well maintained.
Our relative's room was always found clean and tidy, and her belongings were treated with respect.

My mother received very good care throughout her time at Stroud House. In particular, she was cared for with sensitivity and attention during her end of life. The care staff are exemplary, work as a team and support each other. Residents are clean and well looked after, laundry is done regularly and
items rarely go missing. The care is second to none. The facilities and ambience could be better.

My mum has been living at Stroud House for nine and a half years. She has received the best care anyone could wish for. My mum isn't always the easiest of people living with dementia but the staff are really good with her, always meeting my mums needs.

Whilst Stroud House was scruffy, the level of care given to my late husband's short stay was second to none. The staff gave my husband a level of care over and above the line of duty, and on many occasions, the manager and her staff stayed on well after their shifts had finished. The staff were also
very courteous to myself, my husbands family and friends.

New care home manager in post wanted to do a care review with my grandmothers next of kin. We discussed her care in general, and recent hospital admissions and any other info or concerns we had. She was excellent in addressing any queries or concerns we had and proactive in implementing any suggested
care practices. Since new care home manager arrived my grandma (with advanced Alzheimer's) is far less confused, more alert and engaging. She was underweight, but with review of her nutritional care and implementations of food changes, she has gained 15% of her body weight and eating better. The staff all clearly care for her and us is so appreciated.

The home is in a quiet safe location, security is good and the gardens for residents are lovely. The staff are friendly, helpful, professional, and the food is very good. The care provided for my father has been excellent and the staff have a genuine interest in his well-being. Many thanks to the team.

Mum was admitted to Stroud House after weeks in hospital, on the orders of Social Services, and I wanted her back home with us as we had cared for her for 13 years. I found the experience very distressing but the staff at Stroud were so wonderfully caring and supportive of both Mum and myself. I have
now come to terms with Mum being in care, due to the wonderful level of care and support she receives. I am so pleased that we chose Stroud. The location is lovely too.

If you are considering a care home for a relative, the professional advice is to research a few. We visited Stroud, then looked no further because the genuine care was so impressive. Residents are offered a range of activities to engage, stimulate and exercise. Outings include the seaside, the Heath
(local beauty spot), the pub opposite. Relatives are kept well informed. Daily routine accommodates residents preferences eg., bedtime. Everyone employed is exemplary - a fantastic team. Any concerns are addressed immediately and practically. I visited twice a week and believe the quality of Mum's life is enhanced by being at Stroud House.
