I had no wish to leave home, but I realised my infirmities of age were making life too tiring for my wife.
This is an extremely well-organised place.
The members of staff are totally competent but also very kind and considerate.

The catering is excellent and imaginative.

On the half dozen or so occasions I have visited my friend in Woodpeckers, I have experienced the care house as being well-appointed. Very pleasantly furnished and maintained to a high standard. The residents are treated with respect and are clearly well looked after by the staff. There is a cheerful atmosphere and a feeling that staff do their best to make the home a pleasant place for residents and visitors. I have not had a meal at Woodpeckers so could not comment on the food. Whilst activities are organised daily, it must be/is a challenge to provide stimulus for residents with very different meals.

My own personal experience has been wonderful. I have felt very welcomed by the care team and feel that my father has been very well cared for and made very comfortable. The visitors are welcome to tea/coffee and cake and encouraged to have meals with their family. I very much hope that I receive my father's care when my time has come.

Overall Experience
Woodpeckers is a beautifully clean and welcoming home. My Mum was a resident there for 3 years and found all the staff very kind, caring and attentive. She was treated like one of their extended family and I was always made to feel welcome on my visits. We often spent time in the beautifully cared for gardens or on the nicely furnished seating areas indoors. Mum enjoyed taking part in the daily activities - anything from cooking to painting, to helping out in the garden. Everyone from the activities ladies, to all the carers, the nursing staff, to the cleaners and cooking staff treated Mum as if she was one of the family and it was a great comfort to know she was being well looked after.

After looking at several homes in the New Forest area, I am so glad we found Woodpeckers and would definitely recommend it.

My mother was in Woodpeckers for almost 3 years. Woodpeckers, to my mother, was like a huge extended family. The staff think of the residents as grandparents. They were all amazing including nursing team, care team, orderlies, kitchen staff, chefs, maintenance guy and gardeners. The outstanding team, that made such a difference were the two ladies in charge of all the activities. My mother loved all the crafts and the outings. I have been recently looking at the care homes in the Exeter area and nothing even comes close to Woodpeckers for a friendly family feel. I am so pleased we found Woodpeckers and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

From day one I was totally taken with Woodpeckers. Our first point of contact with the lady who visited my mother was so reassuring. She expressed much compassion towards my mother that was very moving. My mother's room was aesthetically pleasing, delightful outlook, open, fresh, airy and not in the least boxy or institutionalised. The house, though large, felt intimate, manageable and easy access to all one might need. The warmth and care my mother is receiving is so much appreciated. I have found all staff to be nothing but helpful, kind, considerate and courteous at all times. My mother feels safe and treated with respect.

Overall Experience

I stayed at Woodpeckers for two weeks as respite for my husband. I was made very welcome and comfortable with a nice room overlooking the garden. As a physically disabled person, I have extra needs and I enjoyed a high standard of care throughout. The food was very good with a good choice and enjoyed by my husband several times as well. The ambience is very good and we both enjoyed the delightful garden. Whilst this was my first stay in a residential home, I have had experience of similar facilities when my father was no longer able to look after himself. I have to say that Woodpeckers stood out as superior in all respects particularly with regard to the high ratio of staff to residents. In the end, it's down to the people who look after you and I must say that they were all cheerful and helpful and I'm grateful for the care they took of me. It was with some trepidation that I went for my first ever stay in a residential home, but I have no qualms in returning at any time in the future.

My mum has been in Woodpeckers for many years. Mum was mobile and capable to begin with but has gradually developed Alzheimer's and is now bed bound. Mum has developed an infection in her knees, following knee replacement ops. Mum is not 'warm and cuddly' and can be very difficult physically and verbally, she now has her wounds dressed daily. It can be a very difficult task which the staff manage wonderfully!
