Originally a private residence, Woodpeckers has been tastefully extended and adapted to provide every modern convenience, while still retaining a homely atmosphere.

Residents enjoy companionship and can join in with singing, music, exercise and arts and crafts sessions. There is the opportunity for gentle gardening activities in the summer sunshine, and there is a busy pen pal scheme.
The home is registered for nursing care and staffed by dedicated nurses and health care professionals with extensive experience in caring for age-related conditions and fully trained in infection control.

The home is situated in the village of Brockenhurst in the heart of the New Forest and is within walking distance of local shops, the church and doctor's surgery.

At Woodpeckers there is a choice of comfortable lounges where residents can socialise, watch television or spend some quiet time, and an attractive conservatory where many activities take place. It overlooks the pretty landscaped garden which has been purposely designed for wheelchair users. The garden also hosts a water feature and oak-framed gazebo suitable for all weathers.

The dining room provides waitress service and varied choices of home-made food. The meals are balanced and nutritious and special diets can be catered for.

The bedrooms are tastefully furnished and most have en-suite facilities for privacy and convenience. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms by bringing their own pictures, ornaments and small pieces of furniture.

My mother was in Woodpeckers for almost 3 years. Woodpeckers, to my mother, was like a huge extended family. The staff think of the residents as grandparents. They were all amazing including nursing team, care team, orderlies, kitchen staff, chefs, maintenance guy and gardeners. The outstanding team,
that made such a difference were the two ladies in charge of all the activities. My mother loved all the crafts and the outings. I have been recently looking at the care homes in the Exeter area and nothing even comes close to Woodpeckers for a friendly family feel. I am so pleased we found Woodpeckers and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

All staff that I have met have been excellent, courteous and understanding of my mother. I understand staff monitor on an hourly basis at night to ensure she hasn't fallen out of bed.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Nothing is a bother. My father is always clean and well dressed and has recently managed to come to the day room on a regular basis.

From day one I was totally taken with Woodpeckers. Our first point of contact with the lady who visited my mother was so reassuring. She expressed much compassion towards my mother that was very moving. My mother's room was aesthetically pleasing, delightful outlook, open, fresh, airy and not in the
least boxy or institutionalised. The house, though large, felt intimate, manageable and easy access to all one might need. The warmth and care my mother is receiving is so much appreciated. I have found all staff to be nothing but helpful, kind, considerate and courteous at all times. My mother feels safe and treated with respect.

I stayed at Woodpeckers for two weeks as respite for my husband. I was made very welcome and comfortable with a nice room overlooking the garden. As a physically disabled person, I have extra needs and I enjoyed a high standard of care throughout. The food was very good with a good choice and enjoyed
by my husband several times as well. The ambience is very good and we both enjoyed the delightful garden. Whilst this was my first stay in a residential home, I have had experience of similar facilities when my father was no longer able to look after himself. I have to say that Woodpeckers stood out as superior in all respects particularly with regard to the high ratio of staff to residents. In the end, it's down to the people who look after you and I must say that they were all cheerful and helpful and I'm grateful for the care they took of me. It was with some trepidation that I went for my first ever stay in a residential home, but I have no qualms in returning at any time in the future.

My mum has been in Woodpeckers for many years. Mum was mobile and capable to begin with but has gradually developed Alzheimer's and is now bed bound. Mum has developed an infection in her knees, following knee replacement ops. Mum is not 'warm and cuddly' and can be very difficult physically and verbally,
she now has her wounds dressed daily. It can be a very difficult task which the staff manage wonderfully!

I visited my friend yesterday and found her very comfortable and well cared for. Woodpeckers is spotless and all the carers I saw and spoke to were lovely. You can see the residents are well cared for, in such a welcoming and friendly environment.

The staff are excellent - really helpful and courteous. The atmosphere is calm and friendly. I would recommend unreservedly for a person who is physically frail and has some short term memory loss. The home seems to be to treat every resident as a whole person.

My mother has been resident for 12 years. For much of this period she has been bedridden. I have always found her care impeccable and of the highest quality. She has had all the appropriate care including a water bed.

My friend moved into Woodpeckers in December 2015, initially for respite care following a period on hospital. He was immediately taken with the home and declared he never wanted to leave. Unfortunately his health continues to deteriorate and he became increasingly unable to participate in activities.
He had further sojourns in hospital and his diet became difficult.
The staff were extremely kind and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. My friend was most appreciative to the end. He died on the 21st of May, staff caring for him to the end.
