My wife has been a resident at Fosse House for nearly three years now. Her dementia has slowly progressed and she is now confined to her bed. During this time the staff at Fosse House have cared for her with compassion and tenderness, making sure she is always as comfortable as possible. Her medical
needs have also been well attended to.
There appears to be an ethos at the home which brings out the best in the people who work there. They are always friendly and helpful, supportive of each other as well as the residents, and are well trained and attentive to the residents' needs.
The accommodation is clean and pleasant. The food is excellent and, even though my wife's meals now have to be pureed, they are well presented and varied.
During the periods of Covid lockdown, I believe the home was kept secure and safe while still allowing carefully controlled access for residents' visitors whenever possible.

Good day and thank you very much for the review. Your mother is an amazing woman and the team here at Fosse House are content knowing the family appreciate the level of care and respect we provide to all of our wonderful residents. Covid- 19 lockdown measures were not straightforward but, as a team we adapted and continued to work towards the common goal of keeping our residents safe. Hope you have a lovely day and thank you once again.

When I visit my mum she is always happy and relaxed cheerfully with the staff. Her room is clean, clothes are in order; these things are important to me as I feel she's happy. The staff are always obliging and cheerful. Mum always looks well. I have no fear of her feeling alone as they incorporate her
in a lot of activities and outings. Before mum would be stubborn and a little recluse, the home have pulled her out of her shell. Mum also says she has many friends there which makes me happy too.

My mother has been a full-time resident for over two years. The care provided is exceptional. The environment, cleanliness and all staff meet the required standards and more. The varied needs of residents are well catered for. The staff and management are personable and attentive to the changing care
need of their residents and happy to answer any family, friends or visitor queries. New and varied activities and therapies are arranged for the residents within the resources available. The company operating the home and the local management team have delivered exceptionally well in challenging times and take pride in the caring service they deliver.

My great aunt is a resident at Fosse House and has been for the last couple of years. When visits were allowed, every time we went to visit her she would always seem happy and in high spirits, the staff would always do their best to make sure this happened. Staff were and still are always responsive
to her needs and requirements, making sure her care is best suited for her and made sure we were involved in the decisions made regarding her care.
If we did have any concerns or comments to make about my aunts care, staff would always ensure that these comments or concerns were handled properly. Overall the quality of care at Fosse House is excellent, with staff being compassionate and responsive to my great aunt's needs and have made her extremely happy and comfortable, I know she is safe there.

Knowing my mum is safe and well looked after is a huge relief to me and my family. She is happy and every time I visit she says over and over, “it’s alright here , I like everyone and get on alright with them.“ the carers are very friendly and nothing is too much for them to do to make my mum comfortable.
Her room is comfortable and if they suspect my mums not feeling right , they call the doctor out, and contact us about what the doctor has said. It was the best thing we did was to find her a place in Fosse house.

My husband has settled into Fosse House and I am very happy with the way the carers look after him.
My only concern is his weight loss, almost a stone.
The doctor has seen him and he has suggested snacks but not in need of the dietician.
He doesn't drink enough but this has always been a problem
and now he can't understand. The carers do try!
Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Fosse House

Thank you for this kind feedback regarding the quality of care provided by the staff at Fosse House. We are pleased to hear your husband has adjusted well to living at this home and we enjoy your visits too.

As part of our continuous care programme, we regularly monitor food, fluid and weight loss for our residents, so that the home and care professionals can address any issues quickly. Should you have any cause for concern, whilst your husband is in our care, our Home Managers operate an “open door” policy and will be more than happy to discuss options to resolve them quickly, where possible.

As a family, we know we have made the best decision for mum in placing her at Fosse House. Life for her at home with dementia was becoming too difficult, putting both her and dad in potential danger. The home manager and the team at Fosse House have been amazing!
Nothing has been too much trouble.
They even got a guinea pig to help her settle in (she has been missing hers) All the staff are caring and supportive and mum is comfortable and relaxed with them.
Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Fosse House

Thank you for this wonderful feedback. Placing a loved one in a care home is never an easy decision with so many things to consider at the outset.
It’s therefore, good to see how the thoughtful gestures shown by the Home Manager and her staff, when welcoming your mother into the home, have helped to provide you and your family with assurance and confidence regarding this decision. We hope your mother will continue to enjoy life at Fosse House for many years to come and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

All the staff and carers at Fosse House have been fantastic in caring for my dad, and mum too, as she spends most of the day with him. It has been taken for granted that mum would be allowed to take her meals with dad, as this is seen as part of his care. This attitude exemplifies the approach of the
management and of all the staff: they see the person, not just the condition they're in. During January dad has been admitted to hospital due to catheter problems; this was well handled by the home, and he is being checked up on regularly.
The environment of Fosse House is particularly homely, with authentic touches everywhere. The displays of photos of residents really make it feel like their home. The events are varied and imaginative, and take the residents out of themselves. Mum and dad have both enjoyed a number of different types of activity, with one highlight being the trip to the seaside in the summer. More recently, mum and dad were taken to a Watford football match.

We had to find a place for my Grandma at short notice (in May 2018) due to a family emergency. The team at Fosse were amazing in helping and supporting us, along with caring for my Grandma.

In January 2019, we have had a difficult time, both with Grandma being rushed to hospital and other family

issues. The way the team have looked after Grandma is fantastic - removing that worry from me while dealing with other things.

When she returned from hospital, she was so happy to be “home” - immediately relaxed and began to improve. Fosse have then worked closely with me to make sure we are supporting Grandma in the best way for her.

I’ve deliberately not named any individuals there as (while I deal more closely with some) it would be unfair to leave others out.

We are very lucky to have a great team caring for my Grandma.

Thank you.

Fosse House continues to be the best care home for the elderly I know. The staff are very friendly and always have a smile for the residents and visitors.
My mum has been here for a couple of years and loves it. There are activities and outings and the team are always happy and encouraging, taking
time to talk to the residents. In fact, I was concerned that I would dread going to visit, but it is the opposite. The environment is bright and airy and there is always something going on.
The team all speak to the residents by name and seem to genuinely care.
So pleased we chose Fosse House for Mum.

Lovely atmosphere and care is v personal. The dedicated carers have a great relationship with my mum. Home is clean and smart and food is good. The home has a very friendly feel and people are treated with a great deal of respect and patience. My mother has lived there for 3 years and there's been
a marked improvement since new manager was appointed 2 years ago. Staff have always been v. friendly and caring but there's now a greater range of activities eg film nights, pub nights, crafts and people coming to entertain. Residents can help themselves to drinks and snacks throughout the day and the gardens are well maintained for residents use. Friends and family are welcome to visit anytime and they host a number of events throughout the year where they are encouraged to come along. They quickly respond to any health issues, deal promptly with issues, open to feedback and suggestions. Management staff are also v friendly and accessible and keep you informed. Its clear care is very centred on the individual.

Current Review Score: 7.5 (7.456)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.5 (7.456) out of 10 for Fosse House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.021 for Fosse House is calculated as follows: ( (14 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.021
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.435 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fosse House is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 81 registered maximum number of service users is 16.2. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 16.2 = 0.185
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
