Margaret House residential and dementia care home is an independent, award winning family-run business.

Established in 1971, it offers long stay residential and dementia care as well as respite care, with either single or double rooms available.

Whether living in the beautiful, sympathetically converted former rectory or the purpose-built wing, the aim is the same - to provide a place that residents truly regard as their home.

Experienced, dedicated staff have a genuine care for, and understanding of, each individual resident’s needs, concerns or desires and that caring extends not only to residents but to their relatives as well.

Relatives and friends are always warmly welcome to join residents for lunch or dinner and to participate with them in any of the many varied activities and well being events that take place daily at Margaret House - where care means caring.

My father was a resident in Philomena Unit for the last year of his life. During that time he was extremely well cared for and always treated with dignity and respect. His room was comfortable and kept spotlessly clean, as were all the communal areas. However, the real strength of this home is its staff.
They are exceptional; caring and compassionate, they create a warm, welcoming and happy atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. I could not fault their care of my father in his final few weeks and that care was extended to the family as well. All in all, an excellent home.

After a long period of illness, my mother has flourished in the environment of Margaret House and as a result of the care provided. It is a very homely environment, unlike most residential homes. A great deal of thought has gone into providing a home in which all residents seem to feel comfortable and
relaxed. Would recommend it to anyone!

Following hospitalisation, my mother-in-law arrived with some misgivings. Happily, her doubts evaporated very quickly. The care she received was of the highest order, thus enabling her to regard Margaret House as her home. She loved having her hair and nails done weekly, also her roast lunches.

Mum is very happy in Margaret House. It is a lovely home with very caring staff. I am very grateful that I know she is so well looked after. Any issue, however small, is immediately communicated to me. She is kept an eye on throughout the night and after a bout of somnambulism which led to falls, the
staff worked out ways to keep her safe so that she has had no accidents for months now. I have recommended the home to many friends looking for care.

This residential home has excellent staff and facilities in an extremely pleasant environment. My mother could not have been better placed in the remaining years of her life. The staff are dementia trained and offer activities appropriate to each resident. My mother was treated extremely well in a kind

My mother has been in this care home for three weeks. She has been well cared for and treated with dignity and respect. The staff have been kind and willing to help her in every way. Her room was bright, her meals on the whole good. There was always an alternative meal if she did not like what was offered.

We had to move my aunt very quickly from North West England and bring her closer to us. We placed her in respite care in Margaret House. The manager on the day of the move made sure she remained late at work to greet her. The manager always made sure we felt welcome. When we visited, my aunt thrived
with the excellent care she was given.

Previously I have worked with care homes. I found Margaret House staff went far beyond any other residential home I have visited.
They engaged with the residents, showed empathy and consideration.
The staff and whoever trained them must take credit for creating a very domestic home atmosphere.

I came to convalesce after open heart surgery. I was made most welcome from the start. All the staff I met without exception were kind and friendly and took a personal interest in me. They gladly accommodated all my preferences. I felt safe and comfortable here even my visitors were made welcome. I
was offered and extended stay and/or return stay. I hope it won't be necessary, but I would be very happy to return here. The reason I picked Margaret House is because I was impressed when visiting a very elderly aunt who lived here in her latter years.

My husband entered Philomena House in April 2016 and died there in December. I cannot speak more highly of the professional and loving care he received there.


In the summer, he was well enough to enjoy the beautiful gardens and to potter into the kitchen area and help himself to fruit and biscuits.

He was suffering from Parkinson's and Dementia and both were catered for. He especially liked the delicious well-cooked food.


His ensuite room was spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The whole family could visit whenever we liked and we were made most welcome. Thier considerate end of life care, with the support of the excellent village surgery, helped us all cope. Competent, well-trained and most importantly, kind and loving staff.

The residence is excellent in many ways. Staff very attentive, competent and happy. Always available to talk to regarding residents. Happy and friendly atmosphere you feel as soon as you go in; very clean and food, drink available to residents at any one time. The residents seem very happy, enjoying
music, quizzes and pampering when required. Bedrooms very very clean and nicely arranged. I feel I know the staff are doing their utmost to put residents needs first. Excellent service home and staff.

The person I visit tells me she is happy and contented being a resident in this home. The home is always very clean, no nasty smells and seems to be a very happy place. The staff are excellent, very caring and always welcome you and nothing is too much trouble. It is difficult for me to comment on certain
things as I am only a friend visiting but what I see is excellent.

Margaret House has been in my husband's family since 1971 and our ethos has always been that we treat every resident as if they were a beloved member of our own family.


I am proud to be part of the 2nd generation of the Kelly family managing our family run home. I take extremely seriously my responsibility for ensuring that we continue to provide the same care and attention to our residents that we always have in a warm, happy, safe and secure environment.


My team and I are here to answer any initial questions you may have and, should you choose Margaret House as your new home, to support and guide you through every step of the initial move to ensure that you are able to quickly and happily settle in. We are then all here for you and your family at every step in the future.

As an avid reader, I also run our very popular monthly book club for residents.
