Since my Mum moved to St Matthew's, they have added a substantial new wing including a chapel, cinema and coffee area, and re-decorated and re-carpeted the complete wing that my Mum is in.
However, as nice as the new facilities are, it's still the staff (and management) at St Matthews that makes this home a happy, kind and dignified place. Everyone regardless of their role seems to really care, and really can't do enough for those that they care for. You just get the impression that this is a really well run home where the human touch remains at the forefront of what they do.
Leaving a parent in the care of others is a big change and commitment for everyone, and I never have a feeling of concern when I leave her as I know the staff will look after her.
My godmother has been at St Matthew's for over 2 years. She is very well looked after which is extremely reassuring for the family. St Matthew's offers a warm, cosy, friendly and family environment which she now terms "home". The manager and her staff are very helpful and go the extra mile if we have any problem. I would wholeheartedly recommend this home to other families.
The staff are very helpful but allows one to think for one's self. The standard of the running of the home is excellent the atmosphere is very good.
The staff and the care at St Matthews was superb. My mum was in there for respite care for one month after Christmas 2017 following an accident. They were very friendly, always helpful and considering this was the first time we have needed help with this our experience was amazing. My mum has mild dementia, our family were worried about seeking assistance for our mum's care but the staff were amazing right from viewing the home, during mums stay to the day mum left. Mum thought that she had had a mini holiday, she made friends and enjoyed the activities and kindness shown to her.
They are all very caring, friendly and helpful.
A very comfortable, clean room. The food is good with plenty of choices.
He is very happy and content with all in the home.
The home always smells pleasant and is clean. I feel they go the extra mile, taking my mother out to a meeting in the local village when we were away, making tea and biscuits for us when we visited, advancing the time of her hair appt when we were taking her for lunch.
My mother did not particularly agree that she needed to leave her home and was initially very confused but they coped with this very well. She is now extremely happy and positive about the food, the staff and the rooms. She says they treat her with respect, not like a child.
As a GP I have visited many care homes and this one is outstanding.
My experience of St Matthews is generally good; the staff are calm, friendly and responsive. My relative enjoys the food but wishes after supper she could return to her room as she finds the behaviour of others distressing. The lounges are pleasant and light but her room is drab and needs fresh colourful curtains. I have concerns about dignity, safety and security. One afternoon I found my relative only half dressed in her chair. There was no one on the corridor or in the lounge. A nurse came out of a room and said there had been a fall so she was very busy. While she dressed my relative, others came out of their rooms also half dressed. The manager dealt promptly with the situation but it shouldn't have happened. On leaving I saw a Dementia Experience truck so guessed the staff were there, leaving just one on duty. Personal items go missing and my relative's room has been invaded by another resident at night. The atmosphere is cheerful but can be rather noisy. The garden is lovely.
My mother has been at St Matthews for nearly 2 years. The home is well situated and benefits from being built on a slope, thus providing a pleasant garden area for each unit. The home is clean and well kept. The staff are exceptionally kind and caring, mum is treated like their own family - the food is usually excellent.
Mum is on the Willows Unit which has been difficult for both of us, as she finds it hard to cope with the behaviours of some of the other residents. She loves to chat and has a good memory for carers names. It would be nice if the activities could include one to one chats now and again.
My mother has recently moved into St Matthews. We have been extremely impressed by the care, consideration and efficiency surrounding the planning of her move and the actual move. My mother relaxed and settled in almost immediately and has been very happy in her new home. We have also been impressed by the care and consideration shown to us (her family and friends) and the support we received in managing and adapting to her move.
The staff at St Mathews who care for my mother could not be kinder, more helpful or more caring. The environment is calm and lovely and the lounge area is a lovely hub where the residents can interact or just sit as they prefer. Mealtimes are a highlight and always looked forward to. The individual rooms are very comfortable and all equipped with en-suite facilities. Meals can be taken in the resident's room if required. Everything is kept clean and tidy. The staff seem genuinely fond of the residents and provide the highest quality of life and dignity to those in their care during in their later years.

Meet the Team (1)

I joined St Matthews Care Home in early 2026. I have had significant experience in health and social care, beginning my career in 2013 as a Care Assistant. Since then, I have had experience in many different roles: Care Team Manager, Deputy Manager, Care Manager and Home Manager too. As well as my significant experience, I have developed my care knowledge and leadership skills, achieving a Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care. I believe that B&M has encouraged my personal and professional growth through training and the many opportunities for development within the company that have advanced my career.
I am excited to be part of the team who go above and beyond to support their residents. We are a warm and caring residential and dementia care home that puts our residents at the heart of everything we do. We are one big family, and we welcome you to St Matthews”
