I have now been here 16-months, and everything is satisfactory. I enjoy the social life here and have made friends. I am settled and happy here.
Overall, my brother and I have been pleased with St Matthews and the care they provide to our mother. Unfortunately, there does seem to be a quick turnaround of staff and lots of new waters, which can be unsettling to my mother.
During what has been an extremely difficult time for my mother, our family and all the staff at St Matthews, everyone working there has been fantastic. From the quiet confidence taken from weekly informative, honest email updates to the real love, care, concern and understanding shown by every member of the staff from cleaners to carers. Nothing is ever too much trouble with staff, willingly popping into mums room in response to an email request from me when Mum is having technical issues with her portal to another carer taking the time to wash, trim and style Mums hair whilst the hairdresser has not been able to visit. Awful as it has been not being able to be physically close to Mum, the staff have worked really hard to make the most of window visits when able to, and we have been lucky to see Mum fairly frequently over the course of the pandemic. We, as a family, feel really lucky to have Mum being cared for by this fantastic team of people through this pandemic.
Helpful a friendly general and responsive.
My mother-in-law has only been in St Matthew's Care Home for a short while, but everyone we mention it to praises it. They appear to be a very bright welcoming place with a garden, and many activities going on and helpful friendly staff. COVID is obviously impacting them, but they are doing their utmost to keep everyone safe. It may be distressing not to be able to have physical contact, but occasional video calls and socially distanced visits are something they encourage. I think perhaps an update on what residents actually get up to on a daily basis, ie activities they participate in would be nice (especially if they are unable to remember what they do all day!). It is for the peace of mind of relatives especially now they cannot actually go into the premises. Communication getting calls booked can be a little hit and miss, but no doubt there are many people trying to organise things.
Her care has been exemplary. All the staff have shown her great kindness and kept her occupied and in high spirits. They have also provided me with regular updates and support in what became an incredibly difficult situation. Mum died peacefully on Friday the 21st of February.
Very pleased with the general standards of care provided. The staff seem to genuinely care about my father. It is a lovely relaxed atmosphere and I never feel as if I am in the way or intruding and I can be quite forthright in my opinions.
Mum has been a resident at St Matthews for just over 18 months and despite initial reservations, seems to have settled in very well. The staff are all very friendly and the rooms are bright and well-appointed. One "selling" point for Mum was the outlook - set in delightful grounds in a quiet tree-lined lane. She is happy to sit in her room admiring the view. Visiting relatives are always made to feel very welcome and part of the St Matthews family.
Mum has been a resident at St Matthews for eighteen months. She has moderate dementia and is not the easiest person to look after as she is wheelchair-bound and can be bad-tempered if she doesn't get her way, however, the staff have been wonderful. They have also been sensitive to her needs, moving her to a different unit better suited to her from a social point of view. No care home is perfect, but St Matthews is the best of three that Mum has stayed in, and has a good balance between facilities and cost.
The activities coordinator did an excellent job organising a superb singer/guitarist to come into St Matthews to entertain the residents on a hot afternoon in August. The residents clearly had a great time singing along (and in one case dancing along) to the hour and a quarter of music. She is a credit to St Matthews and B&M Care Homes.
Staff at St Matthew's provided the very best of care to my Father in Law for over two years, especially in his final weeks. The home itself is bright, welcoming, clean and lively.
My mother has 2 concerns.
1. She worries that if she falls away from the alarm cord, that no one comes along her corridor very often.
2. She complains that the food quality has gone down in 18 months. Not only when the main cook is not there and the man cannot cook but also the meat portions. A cassarole had 4 chuncks of meat and a ham sandwich has a thin piece of ham, not covering the bread.
My mother had an incident the other day which was reported to me and then followed up. I always feel my mother is in safe hands and I know she isn’t always the easiest patient to look after.
Very professional and caring staff who are always very friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and they always have time to listen.
My mother-in-law lives in St Matthews Care Home she is very happy here. All the staff are amazing nothing is ever too much for them. The home is lovely kept clean and safe and there are always so many things you can do. I highly recommend this home as I genuinely believe it is the best place my mother-in-law whom I am very fond of could live.
My sister has been in St Matthew's Care Home for a couple of months. Staff are very welcoming and caring and I am confident that my sister is well looked after.
Thank you so much for the care and kindness you gave to both my uncle and his family during his stay with you. St Matthews is such a well thought out home, my uncle was very happy, having haircuts, going out on trips and enjoying all the Christmas celebrations! I can't thank the staff enough for their help looking after him.
My Mum was very dubious about going into a care home. Unfortunately, we had no choice but the transition of her moving in has been made a lot easier by the caring staff at St Matthews. The management and staff are all very friendly and have made the last year for my Mum a very happy one. I feel confident that she is very well looked after and can't thank them enough.
It is very clean and there are no bad odours at any time.
The rooms, although not large, are sufficient for the resident's needs, including en-suite with modern shower facilities.
The only slight negative is that my father says the food could be improved, as it has gone downhill since December (however this can be a personal feeling and may not be shared by the rest of the residents.
Besides that, would recommend this home.
Very pleased with most things.

Meet the Team (1)

I joined St Matthews Care Home in early 2026. I have had significant experience in health and social care, beginning my career in 2013 as a Care Assistant. Since then, I have had experience in many different roles: Care Team Manager, Deputy Manager, Care Manager and Home Manager too. As well as my significant experience, I have developed my care knowledge and leadership skills, achieving a Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care. I believe that B&M has encouraged my personal and professional growth through training and the many opportunities for development within the company that have advanced my career.
I am excited to be part of the team who go above and beyond to support their residents. We are a warm and caring residential and dementia care home that puts our residents at the heart of everything we do. We are one big family, and we welcome you to St Matthews”
