My dad has been at Vesta Lodge about 7 months now. He is really relaxed and happy. The staff are always polite and available. Nothing is too much trouble. The chef is lovely and the food id of restaurant quality. The manager is one of the nicest and professional people I've come across.
On the whole,
it is a lovely home from home and not at all dismal. I'm so glad dad is in there compared to his first home. Mum and I are very happy.
Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Vesta LodgeThank you for your high praise of the management, staff and facilities at Vesta Lodge. At Quantum Care, we are privileged to look after the elderly in our care and staff often go the “extra mile” to deliver this quality of service. Our trained Chefs provide a varied, home-cooked menu and love to pamper their residents on special occasions too. We are so pleased to hear your father and your family are so delighted that he has come to live at Vesta Lodge and hope he will continue to be happy here.

It is a pleasant experience living here. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and warm. The food is exceptionally good and varied. The location couldn't be better - it is on a bus route to St Alban's city centre. The facilities are very good. Everything makes for a very nice
stay.
Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Vesta LodgeThank you for this wonderful feedback. It’s good to hear how pleased you are with the care and facilities at Vesta Lodge. The Chefs in each of our homes do an amazing job preparing fresh food daily, catering for different dietary needs as well as going the extra mile baking for special occasions. It’s lovely to have this appreciated. We hope your loved one will enjoy life at Vesta Lodge for many years to come.

I am delighted at the care my mother (who is very elderly and has dementia) is receiving. The staff are well supported/managed and are very sensitive and patient. The building is well designed so my mother can always have company when she needs it. Her room is very comfortable and the range of food
is excellent, with choices on the daily menu. Visitors are made very welcome - there is even a cafe for visitors and residents. Residents are responded to as individuals and the atmosphere is always warm.
Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Vesta LodgeThank you for this wonderful plaudit. It is so heartening to receive feedback which truly commends the wonderful care, compassion and respect that our staff provide to all their residents. Our homes are always keen to extend a warm welcome to family, friends and visitors to the home and we are so pleased to hear your mother is happy and comfortable living here.

My aunt arrived at Vesta Lodge confused, angry and suffering from some dementia. Within six weeks the staff had managed to not only get through the confusion and anger but to restore her true character. Easy going, full of smiles and content. There is a lot of love at Vesta Lodge. Birthdays are very
special and my aunt celebrated hers in style - just a week before she died at 97. Thank you all.
Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Vesta LodgeThank you for this wonderful plaudit. Moving into a care home is a big step for many people to come to terms with. I am so pleased to hear that our staff were able to ease your aunt’s move to Vesta Lodge with their genuine patience, understanding and care and ensure her stay there was a happy one. It is wonderful to hear that she was able to celebrate her special 97th birthday with all her friends. I am sure she will be hugely missed by them all.

On the whole, my experience has been good. The shortage of staff makes things difficult at times, especially as I need hoisting. On the occasions, if our four carers is on their break, someone has to be found from another unit to assist and this can take some time.
Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Vesta LodgeThank you for taking time to provide us with feedback on your experience at our home, which we very much appreciate. With regard to comments on shortage of staff, to the best of my knowledge, the levels of staffing on each unit are in accordance with best practice for a home of this size and any staff breaks are staggered to ensure continuity of support. On occasion, it may be that staff are assisting other residents who have very complex needs elsewhere, so may not always be available to assist immediately.

We always encourage residents, families and friends who have any concerns to speak to the Home Manager, so they can investigate and resolve issues quickly.

My mother came to your care home to give myself a much-needed respite for two weeks, which was very nice. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful in assuring me everything would be okay. My mother who does not speak English really enjoyed her stay and has said she would gladly return if I neede

The home is a nice friendly place where my nan feels safe and is looked after.
However, with high levels of agency staff, there is no consistency - ie washing isn't collected frequently enough and requested daily tasks aren't undertaken.

My Uncle has been a resident of Vesta Lodge for 3 years. Since my Uncle entered Vesta Lodge I have visited several times a year to assist with activities such as Halloween/Sports Day/Christmas events. I always take my 8-year-old daughter with me. I find the carers very supportive of the residents. My
Uncle has excellent care.

I visited the Vesta Lodge to see an old friend. He looked clean and tidy and seemed happy. His room was clean and tidy and he liked his room. We spent time in the lounge playing bingo and doing activities. He was offered drinks and crisps and enjoyed the day. It was them time for lunch and the carer
came to take my friend to the dining room. She seemed very pleasant. I think he is being cared for well.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.592)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.592) out of 10 for Vesta Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.742 for Vesta Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (143 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 178 Ratings = 4.742
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Vesta Lodge is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
