My grandmother was a resident of Birchwood house for over 3 years, we call them her Birchwood family. They were so much more than carers and looked after her with compassion, kindness and humour. She was able to join in with activities and if she didn't feel like going downstairs the carers would regularly come up to her room and keep her company. She passed away in the early hours of the morning, a carer sat with her so she was not alone. Our family would not hesitate to recommend Birchwood to anyone.

I cannot thank Birchwood enough for the care, kindness, compassion and dignity they gave my Nan during her three years with them. Throughout her time there she was properly cared for and built fantastic relationships with the staff. We never had to worry about Nan's welfare, as the home were always one step ahead in making sure she was ok. As a family, we were always welcome to visit anytime day or night, and this gave us great comfort, especially during the final few weeks of Nan's time there. We will always be grateful for the care Nan was given. Each and every member of staff is worth their weight in gold!

It has meant so much to us that our small acts of kindness have had such a positive impact on both Mum and you as a family. She was an absolute pleasure to care for and is greatly missed. Her humour and straight talking filled us with laughter and smiles every single day. Forever young at heart, despite her 101 years, she grabbed life with both hands up until it was time to be reunited with her loved one and I bet they are having a right knees up now. After being welcomed into Birchwood every day this week and being able to spend hours with my aunt, I’ve had lots of opportunities to observe. It’s not just the level of physical care that’s important, it’s also the staff’s kindness and patience that ensures Birchwood never feels institutional. It’s a pleasure to hear my aunt enjoying chatting with her carers and seeing them sharing genuine smiles. I can say with much relief that I am heading home to Canada a lot happier now that I have seen for myself that my aunt is being well cared for. It is a lovely old building with beautiful grounds. Birchwood meets all of our expectations for the care of my mother.

We’ve been successful at Birchwood in ensuring our residents and staff continue to live and work in a safe and secure environment. My staff deserve my heartfelt thanks and huge credit in delivering a first class, personal service to all our residents and homecare clients.
We’ve continued safe and secure family visits for our residents too, with up to 3 visits scheduled every day in our secure meeting area. With alignment to all government and health guidelines, our residents have been able to stay in contact with their nearest and dearest. Very early on it occurred to me how integral it was for the residents’ wellbeing to maintain face to face contact. It’s certainly helped to maintain high spirits for all and we hope to do everything we can to continue these in the weeks and months ahead.
