Hartley House is a very friendly and caring residential home. Our aunt has been there for almost two years and in that time we have found that she has been well looked after with staff genuinely interested and concerned for her well-being. We are informed immediately if there are any concerns regarding
her health.
Her room and clothes are always clean and she very much enjoys the home-cooked food that is prepared to a high standard.
Given that many of the residents suffer with dementia, trying to manage and provide for all the residents' needs, must at times prove extremely challenging. Despite these demands, the staff are very approachable and understanding. There are numerous activities on offer, ranging from weekly singing sessions and craft activities to trips in the minibus around the local area.
Hartley House has a very happy and relaxed atmosphere and we feel fortunate that our aunt was offered a place there.

Hartley House has a warm and friendly welcome, and I am always greeted by smiling staff who know exactly where Mum is and how she is doing. As a family, we have been deeply concerned about Mum's recent deterioration but we have been met with compassion and understanding as well as being reassured by
the management's experience and care, so we feel Mum continues to be in good hands, and well looked after. Thank you to the Hartley House team.

So lovely to visit Mum and see her looking well and being cared for thank you all.
It is also reassuring that the manager or team leader are always available on the phone for an update if we can’t get to visit Mum.

We were warmly welcomed for respite care with a view of a move to a place that could offer future nursing care. The staff were very helpful and wanted to know anything special my husband might need .
He settled well and enjoyed the excellent if a little large, meals provided. He was well cared for
and clean and well dressed. There was always fluid to drink in his room. He was warm and comfortable and he had some of his own pieces in his room although he was not there long enough to have pictures on the wall but the offer was there. The management were very helpful indeed especially in sorting out tablets and any queries I had. The other residents all looked clean and well cared for and staff were always on hand to help in any way and there was a happy atmosphere and often laughter. I would recommend Hartley House .

Hartley House provides a service relative to the fees charged. Staff are professional and efficient, warm and friendly and treat residents with care and dignity.
My only disappointment is the lack of a replacement well-being manager to stimulate the residents with activities. I believe this position
has been advertised for some time.

Overall I am very happy with mums care. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. My main concern however is the lack of activities. There has been some changes in management so subsequently, there is no one employed to do activities and well-being.
Reply from Abi Abiola, Internal Communications Coordinator at Hartley House Care HomeThank you for taking out the time to leave us a lovely review. We appreciate it and are glad you are happy with your mum's care. The staff would be very pleased to read your review about them too. We are constantly making positive changes in the home and this would surely reflect soon on the activities your mum and other services users engage in.

My husband was a resident in Hartley House for seven weeks. I cannot speak highly enough of the care he received. The manager and the team are exceptional. The carers showed immense patience and kindness. The staff throughout were so kind to me and my family. I will always appreciate the compassionate
and dignified way the manager and her deputy prepared my husband and us for his final hours.

My mother in law was taken in to Hartley House under pathway 3 and we immediately knew we had struck gold. All the staff that we had any communication with were outstanding, nothing was too much bother. I know that her needs were complex and she took up a disproportionate amount of time, but that didn't
phase the staff. A huge thank you to each and every staff member.

My Dad has lived in Hartley House for over 2 years now. He is well cared for by many nice friendly careers. Also, the housekeeping team are extremely efficient in keeping his room clean and tidy and they are lovely ladies who he enjoys talking to. The management are wonderful in sorting any issues that
arise and are very hands-on with all the residents. I would recommend the home to anyone.

My mother was a resident of Hartley House for the last 3 months of her life, during this time she was extremely well cared for, the staff were always very polite and had time for myself and my father when we visited and also when we rang for updates on her condition. The home is extremely clean with
nice gardens, very a light and airy feel. Rooms are very well kept. In the last 2 weeks of her life nothing was too much trouble for the staff, from very regular checks to changing my mums bed to one which suited her frail condition. If she had a fall we were promptly informed. Her final days were made as comfortable as possible. The leadership is excellent and 'hands on' which feeds down to the staff, we were recommended Hartley House and would no hesitation in recommending it to others. Any treatment required was always discussed with us prior to being implemented. My mums dignity and happiness were paramount even though she could be difficult. Outstanding care and compassion shown.

I have been so impressed with the patience, care and compassion shown by all the staff - to my father, to me and to all the other residents. They may have 50 or more to look after, but it feels that they take time to know and care for each one. Dealing with some of the characteristics of dementia is
tough, demanding work and this Hartley team deal with them all - with a gentle strength and a warm heart. Most important of all, I feel that my father is in the best possible place to live out his days with dignity and contentment. Thank you. All of you.

My mother has now been a resident at Hartley House for the past 7 years and although the management has changed, the high standard of care has not. The home is a lovely clean, open and well-lit accommodation and I've found the staff to be very helpful and respectful. I fully trust them with the care
and well-being of my mother. The home keeps my sister/myself informed of any matters of our mother's care that we need to be aware of or consulted on. I have no hesitation in recommending Hartley House to other service users and their relatives.

My father had been receiving 24 hour 1:1 care in his own home for 2 and a half years until he moved in February 2021 to Hartley House. I was very worried about the move. My father demonstrated some very challenging behaviours in those early weeks, being in the late stages of Alzheimer's. The manager
was brilliant. She was extremely empathetic and caring. She gave us as a family a lot of support, helping us all to adjust. She went above and beyond, to ensure my father received the best medical intervention and nothing was too much trouble. On visits to the home, I always felt very welcomed.
The staff were extremely polite and caring and I witnessed many lovely interactions between them and the other residents as they went about their daily tasks. There was a lovely family feel to the home and a great atmosphere. In the last few weeks of my father's life, I felt able to lean on the team at Hartley House for support and guidance through what was an extremely painful time.

Hartley House cannot be recommended highly enough. The home leadership and the team are superb, consistently caring, sympathetic, resourceful, thoughtful response, cheerful, adaptive, communicative and accommodating. These are all words backed with the experience. Staff are well looked after and it
shows in the quality of care they offer residents and their longevity in post. We are extremely pleased to have made the choice of Hartley House for our ageing mother.

My family and I had to find a care home for Dad during all the restrictions, so no visits in person were allowed. We researched six, and Hartley House came out on top - the manager absolutely helped us with why we chose Hartley Hosue - she's brilliant. Dad moved into Hartley House in November 2020,
and we are so pleased and hugely grateful to the amazing, wonderful, kind and patient carers who look after Dad so well. I've now had three visits in the "visiting pod", and I can see just how settled Dad is; he's being looked after and cared for so well. It's such a huge relief - we are so very pleased with Hartley House - it's a truly fantastic care home.

My mother has required long term Dementia care and has been a resident at Hartley House for many years. She has been very settled, happy and well cared for. The staff are very friendly and willing to help. The home is well managed and senior staff take time to get to know residents and their families
needs and wishes. I think over the years the home has made continuous improvements in its practice and buildings and the comfortable bright modern environment is very welcoming whilst remaining comfortable. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hartley House and have done so.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.756)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.756) out of 10 for Hartley House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.756 for Hartley House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 238 Ratings = 4.756
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartley House Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
