A quiet, peacefully located residential home in the countryside.
The staff are incredibly accommodating (obviously within reason) despite these frightening and unprecedented times.
I know my loved one is looked after very well, and even during the height of the pandemic, I knew this was a very safe
place of care for the service users.
The staff, under the direction of the manager, went over and beyond the call of duty to ensure the home was Covid-19 free.
I, as a visitor, feel welcomed and also protected from possible infection. Hartley House is clean, the number of users in the home is manageable, and the residents, are treated with dignity and respect. I have witnessed this when I observe the staff interact with my loved one and the treatment of other residents in the home.
Overall, I feel content in the knowledge that my loved one is being looked after very well, that he is safe, comfortable and content.
Thank you, Hartley House!

My mum is now 93, with advanced dementia, she was living alone with visits from carers 2 to 3 times a day. She now has made friends, albeit I am not sure how well they understand each other, but she is much happier, and they were getting a lot of entertainment until lockdown. Hopefully, this will be
re-established as soon as it can, and she will continue to enjoy the company and stimulation very soon. The staff are lovely and always seem to have time for the residents.
Reply from Paula Stanford, House Manager at Hartley House Care HomeThank you for your review. We can't wait to start welcoming external entertainers in line with Covid-19 guidelines and then start trips ourselves when safe to do so. In the meantime, we continue with our in house entertainment schedule.

The care and support the residents receive are wonderful. The home is bright and very welcoming. It has good communication with the family, regularly updating information and procedures. The manager, is passionate about her role in providing a caring, friendly and entertaining home for the residents.
A lovely care home, which I would highly recommend.

Having the peace of mind that my mother is being so well looked after at this very unsettling time is paramount to mine and my families wellbeing. Thank you for providing the availability to be able to communicate with mum through various methods of social media. Thank you for the regular updates we
are receiving from the management team at Hartley House and heartfelt thanks go to ALL the staff for the care, attention and love they show to mum. Hope to see you all very soon.

Went into Hartley House last September and has now settled in well with the help of the staff. Has enjoyed the nursery school children going in and also being taken to the local Primary School for lunch occasionally, (which of course ceased at the moment). Although they are in lockdown, they are trying
their best to keep them amused. Fish and chip party was enjoyed by all the residents. We like the fact you can normally visit any time without making an appointment and are always made welcome.
Reply from Stephen Gilmour, Owner at Hartley House Care HomeThank you for the comments! We hope to return to normal as soon as conditions allow.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.756)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.756) out of 10 for Hartley House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.756 for Hartley House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 238 Ratings = 4.756
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartley House Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
