Alexander House was visited on December 14th 2017 when they had a Christmas luncheon for resident and family. The staff were incredibly friendly and personable. Lunch was beautifully presented and was delicious. All of the staff are respectful of their residents and treat everyone with kindness. As I live in the USA I was very concerned with my father going into a care home. After visiting this week, I am going home very relieved that my father is surrounded by wonderful caregivers.

My mother is in a very good home, well looked after. Food good, rooms clean. Staff appear to be very caring. I live in Canada so difficult to give an assessment on daily or constant visits. I have just spent six days with her and taken her out for lunch, afternoon teas. Did not see any activities taking place. I telephone frequently and staff are very courteous and helpful. My mother appears and says she is content. The new manager is very well qualified. She is very caring and patient with residents. I have no concerns about my mother being in Alexander House.

This is a very nice home. I think that my Dad is settling in very well. They have been very patient with him, helping him to settle in and he has got to know the staff and residents there. I'm quite happy with everything. The food there is very good - one of the things I noticed when I first went to view the home is that the kitchen is all open plan - nothing is hidden. Dad walks about the home, visiting the lounge. He is happy there.

The home seems very nice and is quite pleasant. Staff seem amiable. We've visited a couple of times and as far as I can see the meals are acceptable. I couldn't really see any faults. My friend has got a pleasant little room - more or less en-suite. The home is also accessible in the area.

Staff always very friendly and caring. Always come at different times and days to see mum and they're always caring and efficient. The home is very well run and the food is good (I like the fact you can see it being prepared on your way in.) I would recommend it to other people.

Staff are friendly and seem happy working at Alexander House. The manager and assistant manager are helpful in answering questions and welcoming when we visit.

Carers seem to genuinely enjoy their work with residents. Mother's bedroom is clean, which is important, along with clothes. Service users look content and cared for.

Service users are washed and dressed properly - good.

I came to see my friend today and was pleased with what I found.
She had put on weight, looked happy and was clean and smartly dressed.

Two other residents came and joined us to have a cup of tea. They all look so happy.

My mother lived in Alexander House for twenty months before her death at Easter this year. She was extremely well looked after and we always found the manager and staff very caring, kind and cheerful with her throughout the progression of her illness. We were specially grateful for the compassionate way she was cared for at the time of her passing. It was always easy to talk to any of the staff on duty on our visits and we never felt any anxiety about her staying at Alexander House.

Many thanks to everyone there for taking away any worries we might have had about Mum being so far away from our home.

Thank you to all at Alexandra House - my parents are so pleased to be back together under one roof. It was a very upsetting time when they were apart. They like being here and when I visit it is like a home from home, everyone makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door.

I consider the staff welcoming and helpful and there is always someone available if residents need help. The resident I visit have a comfortable and clean room. In the recent weeks the décor of the sitting room has been changed with the addition of pleasant pictures and new curtains. The food is freshly prepared.

Generally he is well looked after by caring staff who seem very fond of him. The home is light and bright but his bedroom furniture is very shabby, drawers broken etc. There are some activities but he is not always interested in bingo or keep fit.

Mum came to Alexander House in March 2015 and after an unsettled start has settled and seems happy. She enjoys her food which is always lovely and her room is lovely and comfortable. She can be contrary but the staff always seem to be able to care for her whilst in her moods. Overall I am happy with the way she is cared for, and have complete peace of mind know that she is happy being here.

Jill HylandJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2007

I have worked in residential care since 2003, where I began my career as a care assistant and progressed throughout the company. I had completed my NVQS 2,3,4,and RMA before becoming a manager in 2010, and later completed my QCF level 5. I enjoy the daily challenges, but most of all, I get the greatest job satisfaction when I feel I've made someone's day no matter how big or small! Seeing our service users happy makes me happy, and having a team who consistently wants to give a high standard of care and embed a holistic person centred care approach makes it all possible.

I graduated as a general nurse in 2020, completing a one-year internship in Romania during my studies. After moving to the UK, I began working in a nursing home as a carer and gradually progressed through various roles including Senior Carer, Duty Manager, Liaison Manager, and Infection Control Lead. These experiences sparked my passion for leadership and inspired me to pursue a career in management within social care. I’m currently studying Business Administration and will graduate this July. I also hold an NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care, and my next step is a Master’s degree at LSBF London. My motivation comes from making a positive difference in the lives of those we care for and supporting teams to deliver the best possible standards. I’m dedicated, driven, and excited about the future in social care leadership.

Originally started out in childcare and after a long gap to raise my family and I needed a change, I applied to Alexander House for a cleaning job which I enjoyed, 10 years later I'm still there now as a Team leader and NVQ 3 in adult care. Every day is different, dementia and elderly care is now a passion it takes dedication, resilience and a commitment to make every life happy, dignified and part of a family. Other than having my own children it's the most rewarding role I've ever had.

I started work here as a senior care worker on nights in 2014, I left to become a pub landlord back in 2019 but came back during COVID as a care worker on nights, after COVID was over and the pubs opened again I stayed at alexander house but changed roles to become the activities coordinator.

I have worked in care since i was 18 years old, having started off in a care home where I then decided to do community care. I fell pregnant with my first child and after going on maternity leave, I decided I wanted to go back into care home environment to do nights to fit around my family life. I started worked in Alexander House, where I have now been for over 10 years. I started in Alexander House as a night care worker due to my partner working during the day and this fitted round our young children, and later I became a team leader! As my children grew i grew with the home. I started days when my children started school. Become head of care and then Deputy Manager. Alexander House is my extended family and my second home. I have nvq level 2 and 3 and have completed CHAPS Training - (care home practitioner) I think of myself as a good leader and support the Registered Manager in ensuring the safety, well-being, and quality of care provided to residents is outstanding.
