Victory Care Home provides affordable high-quality residential care for older people with dementia, sensory and physical impairment, including end-of-life and palliative care.

CQC has given Victory a rating of ‘good’ right across the board (December 2019).

As Victory was purpose-built as a care home in 1984 all communal spaces and bedrooms are on one accessible floor.

Victory is divided into four ‘wings’, all named after ships that were at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. HMS Victory (best known for her role as Lord Nelson’s flagship) was built in nearby Chatham Historic Dockyard. Neptune and Swiftsure each have their own lounge/dining room and a kitchenette, where care staff prepare snacks, and visitors and the more able residents can help themselves to a cuppa. Sirius has its own lounge, and Orion has a large lounge/dining room for Sirius and Orion residents. Parties and group activities are held in Orion.

There are 61 single bedrooms. All rooms have en-suites or washbasins in the room. Rooms without en-suites have accessible toilets and bathrooms nearby. Many of the bedrooms look out onto one of the three courtyard gardens.

Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own photos and furniture. Personal possessions help residents feel at home and provide extra stimulation and time for reminiscence.

Victory was one of the first Agincare care homes to paint each bedroom door a different colour. Together with a number and door knocker, this makes the door more recognisable for the resident of that room.

From the moment mum was admitted 5 years ago, as an emergency for her safety, we knew it was right place for her. Communication is paramount when a loved one is in a care home and this is always maintained, any problems easily resolved, by approachable staff, including managers who have listened and
informed us appropriately.
Mum has been looked after by carers who care and she has built up a good rapport with many of them. They endeavour to maintain her privacy and dignity in all interactions with her and she has enjoyed participating in activities. As her dementia progressed the carers have shown understanding and managed her daily activities accordingly. It was evident when we visit that all staff knew who mum was and they showed her affection, which she often returned.
Recently mum took to her bed and was under end of life care. The care and attention given by staff was exceptional, some giving up part of their break time to sit with her. Incredible!
Reply from Theresa Ward, Manager at Victory Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review, especially during such a difficult time. It means a great deal to the whole team at Victory Care Home to know that we were able to provide the care and support your mum deserved. It was a privilege to care for her and to support your family. We are deeply sorry for your loss, and we offer our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Mum had Dementia and Alzheimers and we had to make the difficult decision to place her in a Care Home as a Safeguarding measure, during lockdown in 2020. She was welcomed to Victory where she quickly settled in.
She had her ups and downs, contracted Covid, had Pneumonia, suffered many falls during
her constant wandering, last year resulting in a broken arm, but the carers were always quick at keeping us informed and up to date with measures they put in place to keep her safe.
Mum had her 90th birthday last year and the staff allowed us to take over their rest room for a few hours to enable the family to have a small party for her, an act we are very grateful for.
Her health deteriorated quite quickly over the last few weeks and we were welcomed at any time, offered drinks and even a meal at times to enable us to spend precious time with mum.
Sadly she passed away last week but the care and love that mum was given by the staff was very evident and we could not have asked for more.
Reply from Theresa Ward, Manager at Victory Care HomeThank you so much for sharing your heartfelt experience with us during what must have been an incredibly difficult time for you and your family. It is humbling to know that our team was able to provide your Mum with the care, dignity, and compassion she deserved in her final days. Your kind words mean so much to us, as we strive to ensure every resident is treated with the utmost respect and that their families feel supported as well. We are truly grateful for your recognition of our team's efforts and their commitment to providing personalized care. Please accept our deepest condolences for your loss. If there is anything we can do for you or your family, please don't hesitate to reach out.

On visiting my friend, I have been very impressed with the reception I have received, the friendliness of staff. My friend is so happy, which is the most important thing, she feels safe. The activities are to a high standard. My friend looks well looked after. The care given seems to be directed around
what the resident wants, which I think is so important. I know that my friend enjoys the food and the freedom of choice.

I could not have asked for a more dedicated care home for my husband, I had great peace of mind, knowing that he was in a safe place, surrounded by people who cared for him as if he were past of their family. Each and everyone one of you provided exceptional care. Unfortunately my husband is no longer
with us but I know he would want me to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your care, kindness and the love you showed my husband. With heartfelt thanks.

We could not praise Victory Care Home enough. The staff and management team have shown exceptional care and compassion towards my dad whilst being in their care and after returning from a short stay in hospital. The home is always clean and the staff go above and beyond to deliver great care. You are

Victory is becoming like a second home to me. This can only be because of the loving, caring staff, not only the affection given to my mum, but me too.
The staff react to my concerns with effect and communicate with me all outcomes. Putting my mind at ease. Care is given on a personal level and helps
residents to retain a relationship with their loved ones. A special thank you to two members of staff in particular, also another amazing member of staff. Well done to the management team!

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
My brother lived at Victory House for two years. The staff were generally kind-hearted but mostly clueless about dementia and slapdash with tasks. Some had strong foreign accents. His nails were often long and dirty and his hair unwashed: I often had to complete his personal care and finish dressing
him. I had to tidy his room strewn with unused bed linen and request towels to shave him. Some staff would change his radio station to their own choice. All his possessions were marked but I still had to sort and remove items that did not belong to him and search for those missing, including a good quality duvet (its replacement was paid for by Victory). The food was high in carbohydrates and often nutritionally poor (jelly, etc.). There did not appear to be any senior staff member ensuring that care standards were met, or any management quality control. There were no dishwashers in the kitchenettes, which may have contributed to two outbreaks of norovirus during his residency.
Reply from Theresa Ward, Manager at Victory Care HomeVictory takes great care to ensure that all complaints are managed. Which is why we opened up an investigation in October. I shared my findings and your family thanked Victory for the care and trouble that we had taken. Our email trail shows that we addressed all new concerns too. When your brother required additional support, we contacted the relevant health professionals i.e., dietitian and SALT team. Who put your brother on a high calorie and liquid diet. Traditionally, care home staff have lacked diversity! Today's workforce must be more reflective of our culture, which we can draw on for a wider perspective. All our staff members are employed through the most current social care recruitment procedures. I am concerned that you mentioned that we had norovirus, as this is not factual! Your brother never had norovirus. We are sorry that you feel the experience at Victory did not meet your expectations, and we hope that your brother is settling well into his more appropriate placement.

(Well done to all the staff for their compassion.)
My Mum has been in care since Jan 24. She can be challenging at times and was unhappy when first went in. She is very happy now.
She had a fall in Dec 24 and broke her elbow, they called an ambulance, which they were advised could be up to 6 hours,
they called me but I was unable to come straight away as I was about 2 hours away, the staff kept her safe and comfortable until I was able to take her to A&E.

My grandad has been a resident at Victory for three weeks and the positive change in his mental health and wellbeing has been exponential. Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.568)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.568) out of 10 for Victory Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.618 for Victory Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.618
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Victory Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
