Having worked in care homes myself over the years, I have seen the full spectrum of care, the good and the not so good. Naturally, I was anxious when we realised my Nan needed residential care. However, Spencer Court has completely restored my faith.
From the very beginning, the team made an emotional
& difficult process feel easy. They are truly wonderful, kind, & nurturing. My Nan has settled in exceptionally well; she is always well-presented, speaks highly of staff, and most importantly genuinely loves the food & drink! No care journey is without its hiccups, but what sets Spencer Court apart is their communication. On a couple of occasions where issues have arisen, the staff have been transparent, communicative, & ensured things were resolved quickly & effectively.
Knowing that she is in the best possible hands gives our family a level of assurance we didn't think was possible. We are so grateful to the whole team for the care & dignity they provide her everyday.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at Spencer CourtThank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful and meaningful review. We truly appreciate your perspective and are incredibly honoured that we have helped restore your confidence during what can be such an emotional and challenging time. We're delighted to hear that your nan has settled so well, feels happy and comfortable, and enjoys both the care and the food. Your kind words about our team's compassion, professionalism and open communication mean a great deal to us and will be shared with everyone. Thank you for trusting us with your nan's care - your appreciation really does mean the world to our team.

Since mum was admitted to Spencer Court Woodstock she has genuinely never been happier. Obviously when she first arrived in April 2025 there were nerves and anxiety. The staff have been fantastic settling mum, she is night and day different in every aspect from her cleanliness, appearance to general
happiness. The whole have been amazing and are forever grateful.

I felt like we won the lottery when we were told that my mother has a place here. The staff are like family, so polite accommodating in every way. When I watch the relationship my mum has with the staff it brings me happiness as this is a very difficult seeing my mum in care. Management: - the best!
Staff: - Awsome! Thank you for all you do. This care home is the best I've seen.

I arrived in NZ the beginning of November to spend 4 weeks with dad at his house. Little did I know he was moving to SC due to his own safety. This was a shock as he would be leaving the family home of 50+ years. Dad has been in SC for two weeks now, and myself and my sister are so happy with the level
of care he's getting. I can go home next week knowing he is in the best care home, being fed extremely well and happy.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at Spencer CourtThank you so much for sharing your experience. Knowing that you can return home reassured that he is safe, well cared for, well fed and happy is exactly what we aim to provide. My wife and I visit Spencer Court every week, and we really feel there is a strong sense of community between the residents, staff and visitors. All staff play their part in making Spencer Court a welcoming place, and my mother-in-law is well looked after. We always have a laugh with the staff, even
though they are clearly busy, and this contributes to making each visit a positive experience. I have visited a few other care homes, seeing other relatives, but Spencer Court is by far the best. Is Spencer Court perfect? No, but they listen to visitors' concerns and take time to explain their procedures or work with residents and their family to improve the experience. If I ever end up in a care home, I would want it to be Spencer Court.

I am so happy that my dad has been allocated a room at Spencer court it's a beautiful setting and all the staff are amazing. My dad is very happy with his room and is fitting in well. I can finally sleep properly as when dad was at home I slept with one eye open waiting for a call to say he had fallen

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.789)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.789) out of 10 for Spencer Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.789 for Spencer Court is calculated as follows: ( (347 Excellents x 5) + (69 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 426 Ratings = 4.789
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Spencer Court is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
