My Father spent 5 years in Townsend House care home, part of The Orders of St John Care Trust, following a stroke. Throughout his time in the home, he has been cared for with love, respect and great dignity. The staff in the home have always been considerate and attentive to my Father's needs and have been very keen to create an environment of harmony and fun in which my Father felt completely at home. The love and care shown by the staff became apparent at the end of my Father's life;

My mother was not happy here and I was not happy with the level of care. The staff were very kind but the home seemed understaffed for the number of residents. When mother was ill, no medical help was called, although her GP had provided a memo about her delicate health. Despite my continuing requests to leave her clothes in her room to save things being lost in the laundry, both clean and dirty clothes were removed by the cleaners daily, resulting on one occasion in Mother having no clean clothes and being left in the lounge in her vest. Most residents were taken to the lounge, where they sat in a big circle, making conversation difficult. Mother had no exercise because it was more convenient for the staff to use a wheelchair, although I had explained that she could walk with her frame. She also had a fall, which everyone apologised for but which no-one could explain.

After 10 days' respite care, Mother was confused, disoriented, depressed and in very poor health.

I went to Townsend House for the first time last week to visit an old friend. I was impressed with the home. The staff was very friendly the manager struck me as being a very warm and caring person, what I found different to other homes was that everyone seemed happy and I spoke to others there and none of them wanted to go home they said they were all looked after well and those that could mix with others did which is extremely different to other homes.

Whenever we have visited the home we have always received a warm welcome.
We have seen that the residents are well cared for individually, and their group therapy sessions appear to be warm, embracing and encouraging.

The home is brightly decorated with many ornaments and pictures. It is kept clean and warm and we are always offered refreshments, having travelled a fair distance.

Nan has settled well, started in an upstairs room - we requested downstairs, this was welcomed and changed by staff.

Had her 97th birthday last week, birthday cake and fuss was made, which all the family appreciated.

She had a fall and cut her hand, staff attended efficiently, GP/District Nurse attended - we are all thoroughly impressed and appreciative of all care given.

The domestic and laundry staff are amazing; friendly, helpful and address Nan by name and are always smiling.

My aunt has been at Townsend House for about 2 years now. She was very awkward to handle at first and would not leave her room, but she settled after a while and is now mixing in the sitting room and eating in the dining room. She can still be quite a handful at times but the carers manage her very well. The family is pleased with the way the home is run.
