My mother has been living at Redcot since January 2020, following a serious stroke that left her bedridden and requiring full-time care. It was important for my brother and myself to find somewhere where Mum would feel at home. We looked at a number of residential care and nursing homes, but as soon as I visited Redcot, I knew it felt right. It is such a calm, peaceful place, always clean and tidy, and smells lovely. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the food is excellent. The staff are all so caring and friendly and nothing seems too much trouble. They treat Mum with kindness, patience and dignity, and have helped her to feel safe in such uncertain, worrying and ever-changing times. This has been so reassuring for us as a family, particularly when visits to see Mum have been so limited.

My dad has been at Redcot for over 5 years now and he is very content living there as part of the Redcot family. Dad is looked after with kindness and encouragement and is able to make his own decisions to promote independence. The staff have been tremendous in keeping dad and the other residents safe and comfortable during this most difficult year. They have provided many different forms of communication so we could all keep in touch with our loved ones. To have a parent in such a lovely home environment is comforting for us as a family.

My 97 year old mum needed more care following a deterioration in her ability to look after herself and also to be closer to me, so we chose Redcot. It really has been the best decision but a hard one. Redcot has been so reassuring and supportive. I can’t thank them enough for the attention and kindness they show to mum, my sister and me, especially through this pandemic. As a district nurse for many years, I have visited numerous care homes so when it came to mum I did seek high standards. Redcot definitely have them and I have found all the staff to be friendly and approachable.

My mum has lived at Redcot for the last five years. Staff are caring and kind - which was the primary requirement for us. They take a real interest in each resident and show kindness and affection. The current service manager is very supportive of residents and their families and friends, she is open and approachable, and always happy to discuss any queries or concerns. Friends of the Elderly who own and run Redcot are well managed and progressive. The house and garden is comfortable, attractive and homely. Activities and entertainments are provided most days. During the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, the staff have really made extra efforts to provide a family atmosphere whilst sticking carefully to the safety guidelines. Contact between residents and their relatives has been enabled as well and safely as possible. Of course, there are minor aspects which could be improved, but overall my mum and I feel very content, comfortable and confident with her life at Redcot.

Our dear mum has been a resident of Redcot since September 2020. At 90-years of age, and contending with the challenges of Dementia, our mum was in need of special care. From that very first day, Friday 12th September, as Mum was introduced to her new home, it was very apparent to us, that the manager and her team were special people. The reassurances we received from them, on that day, and more importantly, the reassurances given to my mother, on that rather sad day, have proved to be true, that our mum would be safe with them. I cannot praise the Redcot staff enough for their consistently warm and compassionate care of our mum, not least in such challenging circumstances, due to this wretched pandemic. We, as a family, hold the management and all staff members of Redcot Care Home in the highest regard, for their extraordinary efforts in maintaining such high standards of care. We wholeheartedly thank them and recommend them. Very special people!

Redcot is a comfortable home in a beautiful location. Its garden, grounds and terrace are very attractive and were a strong factor in my choosing it for my mother. I have enjoyed sitting on the terrace with Mum in warm weather. It is very nice that the two lounge areas look out onto this terrace. Mum's room also had a good view of the landscape (I haven't seen her present room). The home is comfortably furnished. The staff I have met have usually been friendly and helpful to me. I think Mum has been well cared for, including a difficult period when she suffered a series of falls. She enjoys the activities provided (especially those involving music). My only slight grumbles would be about communications: sometimes it has been difficult to get through on the phone and calls have not been returned. But hopefully, a new phone system will have addressed this. And during the coronavirus pandemic, some of the procedures around PPE or visiting precautions have been a bit too relaxed.

It was one of the most difficult times for me, choosing a care home for my mother but I take great comfort that my choice was simply excellent and my mother was in the best place she could be.
Redcot is in a beautiful old house set in tranquil and very lovely surroundings with great views over the South Downs. From the moment my mother moved in, the staff have been truly excellent, caring and sympathetic both to my mother and me. The cleanliness is impeccable, my mother was always clean, well dressed and her room and the common facilities were always spotless. Although my mother was not one to join in, the activities are put on with great enthusiasm and skill and it is clear that they are enjoyed by the majority of residents.

During the COVID pandemic, Redcot have always been ahead of the regulations and recommendations and are clearly fully supported by their management at Friends of the Elderly. I have never had any fears for the safety of my mother. I highly recommend Redcot.

Mum moved to Redcot earlier this year. Throughout her stay, she was treated with respect and outstanding care. Every member of staff went out of their way to welcome the whole family and ensured we were kept updated as Mum's condition worsened. I take great comfort in the knowledge that Mum could not have been better supported at the end of her life. Thank you to the skilled staff who deserve much praise.

My mother-in-law was a fiercely independent woman who reluctantly needed care in the last year or so of her life. We had tried various care homes unsuccessfully until we found Redcot. The home is beautiful with large airy rooms and the staff and carers could not have been more patient and caring. They treated her with dignity at all times. I would not hesitate to recommend Redcot to others.

I spent two weeks spanning Christmas and New Year at Redcot. The staff were excellent and helped and assisted the residents with kindness and friendship. The meals were excellent and the daily programme of events were varied and enjoyable. Most people took part in activities, everyone was encouraged to take part. As a visitor, I was welcomed by the staff and I felt accepted in every way.

Mum stayed in Redcot for nearly four years until her death. We particularly felt that in Mum's final months she was given very attentive and sensitive care. There was a warmth and humanity that can so easily be rather lacking in a professional situation. As Mum had played the piano to a high standard it was wonderful to have a grand piano in the house! I would only add that if a way could be found practically and financially to open up the garden more to residents that could only be a good thing. I think Mum would have liked to have been wheeled around more of the garden and not just restricted to the terrace. That said I and my two sisters all felt very happy overall with Mum's time spent at Redcot. Keep up the good work!

My 3rd review in almost 5 years and I'm pleased to say that the high standards at Redcot are being well maintained. In the last year, various projects have been undertaken around the building to maintain modern standards. The staff change little and are always friendly towards residents and their visitors. I can go anytime (no restrictions) and be made welcome. The activity programme is impressive and well supported by the staff. Simply speaking, "my lady loves it" and her 100th is only months away. I'm so pleased for her that she is a Redcot resident.

My mother at 105 is the oldest resident at Redcot. She has been here for eight years and calls it home. That says a lot and as a family, we appreciate the care and kindness she has received.

Sadly there has been quite a change of staff which is understandable but the changes have to be. We are delighted with her care.

Induction: Poor, no medical checks on my mother's medical needs until a few months into arrival. Dr still had no notes after 5/6 months so this was not ideal. Communication was very poor between Dr, home and pharmacy. Mum would wait weeks for repeat drugs. Most carers were kind but a few were not very caring and some were bullying in their approach. Better training needed in spotting infection in the elderly as often this was missed and my mother was sent to hospital twice. Leaving home to go to a nursing home!

"Hello, I’m the Home Manager at Redcot care home in Haslemere, Surrey.

I have worked in the Care Sector for 21 years in a wide range of roles, from Evening Domiciliary Care Assistant to General Manager.

Care has always been the path I was naturally drawn to, and in many ways, it seemed to choose me. I believe kindness takes time, and every day I aim to make a meaningful difference in residents’ lives – every day – by showing respect, listening, being compassionate and giving each person the understanding and empathy they deserve.

At Redcot, the care team is amazing - their dedication, creativity and passion for all the residents is so clear to see and they are all devoted to delivering high-quality, individual and bespoke care to each resident and respite guest – I couldn’t be working with a better group of people.

Redcot is a home that looks like home and feels like family. A place where residents feel safe, valued and comfortable; a place they call home and where staff feel like part of that extended family.
