Reviews

9.2 Royal Cambridge Home has a Review Score of 9.2 (9.166)

The Review Score of 9.2 (maximum of 10) for Royal Cambridge Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 11 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Royal Cambridge Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.333 for Royal Cambridge Home is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.333

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.833 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Royal Cambridge Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 6 positive Reviews (30 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 6 Target = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My wife has been a resident of the Royal Cambridge Home since September 2017.
I have been very pleased with the care she has received, the staff work well together as a happy team and their attitude towards the residents is excellent.
The management has gone out of their way to be helpful, for example, the manager of the home gave up his office so that my wife could have a room downstairs.
There is no restriction on visiting hours and visitors are made very welcome.

The staff are friendly and reactive. The management team are nice - some of the auxiliary carers are very kind.
There appeared to be a laundry system in place but, on each occasion I visited, my mother was either wearing someone else's clothes or had other people's clothes in her chest of drawers or wardrobe.
I think there could have been a more proactive encouragement to do things e.g. walks in the garden, to alleviate boredom and anxiety.
The main meals were not very appetising although the baking was good.

Rory Belfield, Care Home Manager at Royal Cambridge Home responded to this review on 20 Oct 2017:

Thank you for your constructive review and particularly your very positive comments about our staff.
We are sorry that your mother's clothes were mixed up. We have systems in place to try to ensure this does not happen but clearly they failed on this occasion.
Our activities programme is widely praised and we review this on a monthly basis but we will certainly look into encouraging more walks around our lovely gardens.
Our menus are regularly reviewed and we try to accommodate individual tastes where possible.

My aunt was in the Royal Cambridge Home for a few weeks, during which she received exemplary care. The excellent staff were unfailingly kind, thoughtful and sensitive to my aunt's needs. Everything possible was done to make my aunt feel comfortable, safe and well-cared for. My aunt was treated with dignity as well as great compassion and understanding at all times. The home has a welcoming, friendly, calm and pleasant atmosphere and the kindness shown to residents by staff and management extends to family and friends. I would highly recommend the Royal Cambridge Home and am very grateful to all the staff for the support they gave to my aunt and her family.

Mum has dementia and has been a resident for about 6 months. I live and work close by so I visit her often and I have always found the staff to be really kind, gentle and caring towards mum. The activities and outings are certainly a good way to stimulate the bodies and minds of the residents. The garden is beautiful and mum and I are looking forward to making the most of it when the weather improves. Nobody wants their parents in a care home but I am confident that she is as happy there as she can be and very well looked after.

After 7 years of looking after my mother the last 3 years of which took its toll on my health, work and overall capacity to function due to lack of sleep, worry and constant problems with care, I can honestly say I can visit her at any time and am happy with the care she receives. I have observed other residents being cared for with the same dedication and patience. I leave my mother every time knowing she will be well looked after and that feeling is priceless. I thoroughly recommend this home, the carers are kind and professional, the home is warm and comfy and I view it as a second home for my mother.

My mother is treated with respect and dignity. She is kept clean, warm and comfortable. ALL the staff are wonderful and very caring - both management and staff. She has been in the home for several years now and the care has remained constant.

My mother relished her independence until nearing her 101st birthday when her emotional and physical state deteriorated rapidly. Despite our need to choose a suitable carehome quickly we know we made the right choice in The Royal Cambridge. The care staff are without exception committed to ensuring that each resident receives the individual 'tlc' to suit their particular needs, and although the actual building could benefit from the same treatment the general feeling is 'homely' rather than 'a home'. My mother now smiles again. Thank you Royal Cambridge!

Staff are friendly and helpful. Carers are always kind and caring but sometimes seem to look for guidance. They are mainly from overseas and communication with the elderly can be difficult. They have a good programme of activities plus the use of a mini bus and a nice garden.

My mother stayed in The Royal Cambridge Home for nearly 3 weeks for respite care. She is 93 and of fragile health. She was looked after with exceptional kindness at the home and thoroughly enjoyed her stay. She loved the staff, food, activities and joining the other residents in their everyday lives. The staff treated the residents with great compassion and care. Our family are very grateful for giving my mother such an enjoyable visit where she was safe and cared for so well.

Mum has been a resident at the home for nearly 9 years and there have been many changes during that time. The home offers it's residents a 'home from home' as far as possible and mum came to think of it as home and the staff, family. The staff are caring across the board including the cleaning, catering and auxiliaries and over the years have become a little like family to us too. Mum is sadly now receiving end of life care, however, I can't think of anywhere I would rather her be. She is treated in a caring, gentle and kind way with dignity.
