A caring care home with friendly staff. Always there when wanted. Shottermill House has a religious emphasis, which satisfies my sister who has a long religious background. The management and staff I have met always have time to talk and help with any issues. Run well, considering budget and recruitment constraints.

I could not speak more highly of the staff and provision at Shottermill House. My friend is full of admiration for all the staff who care for her. The provision provided is exemplary and as I visit every week, I get to know most members of staff. I have always been welcomed into a happy environment from all staff, from management, to cleaners, carers etc. All staff are known by their first names and are always available and glad to help in any way. This is the best care providing home I've ever seen. A+.

My mother has settled very well at Shottermill House and feels very at home. All the staff are kind, thoughtful, caring, efficient and hard-working. There is a lovely homely atmosphere at the home and the family members have a sense of community and surrounded by their faith in a loving Christian home. The family are very pleased indeed to have found such a lovely place for mum to be so well looked after.

Staff were kind and considerate, encouraging my friend and patients with her slow walking pace. The visitor's room was comfortable and private. I was able to receive Holy Communion from the Methodist Minister, which was very special to share with my friend. The home had a welcoming feel, and the decor was pleasant.

Overall Experience

My mother moved to Shottermill House requiring dementia care. The facilities are warm, welcoming, colourful, efficient, very clean and practical. Without exception, the managers, staff members and volunteers are professional, kind, loving, accommodating and full of fun. The food is excellent. My mother's room, with an en-suite bathroom, was the perfect size to allow for her to have key family photos and possessions but not be cluttered. Her window looked out onto the lovely gardens. The staff always went above and beyond to accommodate all forms of communication by our family (inside visits, outside trips, telephone calls, FaceTime, reading our letters to her). The spiritual community that she found at Shottermill House was very important to her, and she loved to engage in the numerous activities provided to the residents. Finally, the loving, gracious and calm end-of-life care provided to my mother was truly exceptional, further highlighting the dignity with which she was always treated.

My visit to Shottermill House coincided with the Queen's funeral, as requested to watch this remarkable event with a loved one residing here. Considering the extraordinary day, nothing was too much trouble. It was clear the day for all involved had been planned with care and great kindness. I found the rooms, shared space and the loo/bathroom to be light and clean, yet with homely touches like personalised cushions, photo boards etc. Covid protection like masks and handwash are provided. The funeral service itself was featured with great dignity, while I saw people discretely offered refreshments and assistance given. A buffet lunch was prepared, which I was offered and very much appreciated after the long drive here! Many thanks to the team.

Arranged a visit at a specific time. On arrival, meet by staff to go through Covid restrictions. Taken through to visitors lounge where Mother was waiting. We were left in private for the whole time of the visit apart from when refreshments were offered.

Our whole family realises how fortunate we are that our mother's home is now Shottermill House. We know that she is safe (indeed fiercely protected), cared for and respected. Every time we visit, the atmosphere in the home is calm, clean, and on occasions, lovely. Although my mum can only "live in the moment" (she has no recent memories), I believe she is happy amongst good, kind people, which is where she would want to be.

My 90-years-young mum is safe, contented and always up for a song or a poem when I visit. With her freshly coiffed hair and sense of humour, Mum is good company. I often have a cup of tea with her when I visit, such a small thing, but so lovely to share that moment. Mum responds to jokes and magic tricks! Her love of gardening means that she enjoys looking at the potted plants in the garden and walking around in good weather. The homecooked food from the in-house chef is greatly enjoyed. Mum's interests are met, and it is reassuring to see her well cared for.

My visit to see my mother at Shottermill today was arranged only one hour before I arrived. The care manager was very polite when speaking on the phone to arrange this visit. On arrival, things were obviously busy with a previous visitor, but I was greeted by the business manager, who is always very welcoming. I appreciate all that is being done for the care of my mother.

Shottermill House have cared for my mother for over 4 years now, but recent months, because of Covid-19, have been particularly difficult for them. However, they have risen to the challenge and responded magnificently. Initially, I was not able to visit in person, as they went into a total lockdown, but a recent easing of regulations has meant that, in August, I was able to have a short garden visit. Because of their diligence, nobody in the home has been ill with covid, and my mother continues to be very happy, and I cannot thank them enough for their love and care.

Shottermill House is a wonderful care home.
My mother is registered blind and has severe mobility problems.
There is nothing I can fault on the care she receives. The staff are always on hand to help and the management are always available to answer any questions.
They have activities every day and the residents are always happy to participate.
My family could not have chosen a better home for our mother’s twilight years.

I cannot thank them enough for looking after our mother with such love and care.

Shottermill House has looked after my Mother extremely well for the last four years. She has been treated with patience, respect and love. The Christian ethics permeate the place and Mother feels that she is among friends. The residents are fed well and despite the lockdown, the staff work hard to keep them entertained. I feel that my Mother is in the best place that she can be, she is living well despite her dementia.
