In every one of their homes and schemes they express God’s love through compassion and care that helps people live life to the full - fulfilled living.

Shottermill House has an active social life in which residents can take part or follow their own pursuits. They appreciate that each resident has their own individual interests, hobbies and pastimes, and they endeavour to support residents to maintain this important part of their lives. Residents are encouraged to lead the lifestyle that they choose, doing as much or as little as they want - residents can simply choose to put their feet up with a daily paper (by arrangement) or a good book from the home’s own collection.

Their weekly programme includes activities such as board game and knitting groups, various craft creations including card making, flower arranging and items made for seasonal sales. The home benefits from visits by local choirs, entertainers, school and pre-school pupils and periodically has a Farm Day with visiting animals. A hairdresser visits once a week. There is a weekly coffee morning where many friends and relatives meet. A team of “Friends of Shottermill” support and befriend residents by coming to see them on a regular basis.

Spiritual life within the home is very important. At Shottermill House they try to create a community where Christian worship, prayer and support are a core part of daily life. They have daily devotions, Sunday and mid-week services, and a monthly communion service. These are led by staff, residents and volunteers from the local churches. There are a number of churches of various denominations within easy reach of the home

Weekly Charges per Person

  • Self-Funded Residential Care: £1580 – £1743

Our fees are charged per person, per week. We do not require a deposit and we do not require a guarantor. This will include the provision of personal care, food and drink, heating, lighting, equipment, laundry, insurance of personal items, and in-house activities.


These fees are valid between 1st April 2025 and 31st March 2026 and are reviewed annually. The Registered Manager will assess you prior to admission to determine the level of care provision required. During a stay at Shottermill House, fees can change if the level of care you need increases or if there is a change in the law which significantly impacts the cost of your care. You will be given one month’s notice of any changes in fees.


We have three levels of care provision at Shottermill House:
• Basic residential care: this is where the assessed needs are relatively uncomplicated and where mechanical or technical assistance is rarely needed.
• Higher dependency: this is where the assessed needs are complex and where mechanical or technical assistance is intermittently needed.
• Enhanced care: this is where assessed needs are highly complex and where mechanical or technical assistance is frequently needed. We charge for dementia care at this rate.


If you intend to pay your own fees, you are expected to have liquid funds to meet the home's fees for a minimum of two years. If you have any queries about paying for your care feel free to contact the managers to discuss this.

My mother has settled very well at Shottermill House and feels very at home. All the staff are kind, thoughtful, caring, efficient and hard-working. There is a lovely homely atmosphere at the home and the family members have a sense of community and surrounded by their faith in a loving Christian home.
The family are very pleased indeed to have found such a lovely place for mum to be so well looked after.

Staff were kind and considerate, encouraging my friend and patients with her slow walking pace. The visitor's room was comfortable and private. I was able to receive Holy Communion from the Methodist Minister, which was very special to share with my friend. The home had a welcoming feel, and the decor

My mother moved to Shottermill House requiring dementia care. The facilities are warm, welcoming, colourful, efficient, very clean and practical. Without exception, the managers, staff members and volunteers are professional, kind, loving, accommodating and full of fun. The food is excellent. My mother's
room, with an en-suite bathroom, was the perfect size to allow for her to have key family photos and possessions but not be cluttered. Her window looked out onto the lovely gardens. The staff always went above and beyond to accommodate all forms of communication by our family (inside visits, outside trips, telephone calls, FaceTime, reading our letters to her). The spiritual community that she found at Shottermill House was very important to her, and she loved to engage in the numerous activities provided to the residents. Finally, the loving, gracious and calm end-of-life care provided to my mother was truly exceptional, further highlighting the dignity with which she was always treated.

My visit to Shottermill House coincided with the Queen's funeral, as requested to watch this remarkable event with a loved one residing here. Considering the extraordinary day, nothing was too much trouble. It was clear the day for all involved had been planned with care and great kindness. I found
the rooms, shared space and the loo/bathroom to be light and clean, yet with homely touches like personalised cushions, photo boards etc. Covid protection like masks and handwash are provided. The funeral service itself was featured with great dignity, while I saw people discretely offered refreshments and assistance given. A buffet lunch was prepared, which I was offered and very much appreciated after the long drive here! Many thanks to the team.

Arranged a visit at a specific time. On arrival, meet by staff to go through Covid restrictions. Taken through to visitors lounge where Mother was waiting. We were left in private for the whole time of the visit apart from when refreshments were offered.

Our whole family realises how fortunate we are that our mother's home is now Shottermill House. We know that she is safe (indeed fiercely protected), cared for and respected. Every time we visit, the atmosphere in the home is calm, clean, and on occasions, lovely. Although my mum can only "live in the
moment" (she has no recent memories), I believe she is happy amongst good, kind people, which is where she would want to be.

My 90-years-young mum is safe, contented and always up for a song or a poem when I visit. With her freshly coiffed hair and sense of humour, Mum is good company. I often have a cup of tea with her when I visit, such a small thing, but so lovely to share that moment. Mum responds to jokes and magic tricks!
Her love of gardening means that she enjoys looking at the potted plants in the garden and walking around in good weather. The homecooked food from the in-house chef is greatly enjoyed. Mum's interests are met, and it is reassuring to see her well cared for.

My visit to see my mother at Shottermill today was arranged only one hour before I arrived. The care manager was very polite when speaking on the phone to arrange this visit. On arrival, things were obviously busy with a previous visitor, but I was greeted by the business manager, who is always very

Shottermill House have cared for my mother for over 4 years now, but recent months, because of Covid-19, have been particularly difficult for them. However, they have risen to the challenge and responded magnificently. Initially, I was not able to visit in person, as they went into a total lockdown,
but a recent easing of regulations has meant that, in August, I was able to have a short garden visit. Because of their diligence, nobody in the home has been ill with covid, and my mother continues to be very happy, and I cannot thank them enough for their love and care.

Shottermill House is a wonderful care home.
My mother is registered blind and has severe mobility problems.
There is nothing I can fault on the care she receives. The staff are always on hand to help and the management are always available to answer any questions.
They have activities every day
and the residents are always happy to participate.
My family could not have chosen a better home for our mother’s twilight years.
I cannot thank them enough for looking after our mother with such love and care.

Shottermill House has looked after my Mother extremely well for the last four years. She has been treated with patience, respect and love. The Christian ethics permeate the place and Mother feels that she is among friends. The residents are fed well and despite the lockdown, the staff work hard to keep
them entertained. I feel that my Mother is in the best place that she can be, she is living well despite her dementia.

Mike

Mike Beere

Job Title: Business Manager Joined: 2018

Mike is an experienced Project Manager/Administrator, with over 25 years of experience leading teams and delivering projects, especially in the Charity sector, but most recently with an offshoot of the NHS. He holds a management qualification from the Institute of Leadership and Management and a Level 4 PTTLS teaching qualification. He was previously the Director of the Manchester City Mission.


Mike has a heart for people in later life and recently helped administer a project in the South West called Transform Ageing - a pioneering programme taking a community and design-led approach to improve people’s ageing experience.

Anne

Anne Pegler

Anne has over 40 years of nursing experience and has experience developing and maintaining high standards of care across several care homes. She is very passionate about sharing her faith and her walk with Christ and is actively involved with her local church.

Deborah

Deborah Callewaert

Deborah started working at Shottermill House in August 2021. She returned to the UK at the end of 2020 as she and her husband felt it was the right time to move back to help their family, having lived in Belgium for 20 years. Deborah worked in metalwork, and administration and finally ran a childcare facility.
