Providing excellent personalised care for older people is the sole objective at Bernhard Baron Care Home. For over 70 years they have been providing care to singles as well as couples in the cottages and the main building. The homes are a charity and while care is provided on an individualised basis they provide a strong community with activities and support for spiritual needs.

Experienced and dedicated staff value and encourage independence and try to provide for all individual needs, including care, diets and activities. The home has two members of staff with special responsibility for helping with personal interests, activities and frequent outings. They are assisted by a team of volunteers and have a minibus and a car at their disposal.

The cottages consist of a sitting room, a bedroom, a shower room, and a small kitchen. The main building has en-suite bedrooms in addition to lounges, dining room and facilities such as hairdressing and laundry. Several of the bed-sitting rooms are particularly suitable for couples.

Bernhard Baron Care Home provide three-course lunches with choices for each course. Breakfast and tea are served in the dining room or in residents’ rooms and friends and family are welcome to join everyone for a meal. The kitchen staff can cater to residents' needs and preferences.

The homes are set in five acres beautiful grounds with a path winding through the gardens as well as wooded areas designed especially for wheelchairs and for those who need walking aids.

My cousin has resided at Bernhard Baron cottage homes for six years and during that time the overall care she has received has been excellent. The staff are professional yet friendly and approachable and attend to my cousin according to her individual needs. Although busy with their daily routines they
have time to be sociable with residents and visitors. My experience is of a relaxed and happy atmosphere. Initially, my cousin joined in many of the varied activities on offer for residents and there are also local trips to places of interest. Recently she has become more frail and less mobile. To help her still feel integrated it was suggested she move rooms to be nearer the main hall and dining facilities. This was a thoughtful and helpful move. My cousin values the Christian ethos of the care home and looks forward to the Sunday evening services led by local priests and a couple who are wonderful volunteers. We look forward to our visits with such a welcoming environment.

I came to Bernhard Baron Care Home with my husband in 2020 to live in one of the cottages. We have the best of both worlds - we have our privacy and independence with support when we need it and when we can no longer manage in the cottage, we will be able to move to the main building with more care
provided. We will stay in the same community where we already know everyone.
The care is first-class - nothing seems to be too much trouble and any worries are dealt with in a very kind and sympathetic way.
There are plenty of activities to suit everyone's taste and interest - outings, card games, other table games, a weekly ecumenical church service, craft, poetry, singing, exercises, gardening, bible studies, films, computer club, etc.
The food is excellent - well cooked and served with plenty of choice.
The trustees are Quakers which sets the tone for the whole ethos of the home which is outstanding.

Since my dad moved to Bernhard Baron Care Home he has changed so much. He has gone from a shy and anxious person to a happy and outgoing person in around 6 months. He talks very fondly of all the staff and constantly mentions how lucky he is to live there and how well cared for he is. As a relative,
it brings peace of mind to know that he is well cared for. We have been very impressed with the level of care, support and communication. We feel very lucky that our dad is living in such a wonderful place with amazing staff. We are always made to feel welcome every time we visit.

We have always experienced a friendly and caring environment and have been welcomed as visitors. We are impressed with the standard of care and the attentiveness and responsiveness of the staff. My aunt spent the last 4 years of her life in Bernhard Baron Care Home. Until recently she took advantage of social activities and outings. Her care was exemplary, with falls checked by NHS, and me being kept informed. In her final weeks, I spoke to care staff, almost every day. When I visited in person
the week before she died, it was clear she was very comfortable, and I felt welcomed and comforted by the staff. Throughout Covid, Bernhard Baron Care Home used weekly video calls so that we could see and speak to each other, and share stories. These interactions were highly valued because visiting in person was a 1200-mile round trip. In my quarterly visits before Covid, it was clear my aunt was very happy and stimulated by the Bernhard Baron Care Home environment. Once Covid rules allowed, I visited in June and October 2021, and March and September 2022. On our final visit, Bernhard Baron Care Home was back to its pre-Covid state with many residents/staff in the public areas. Of all the care homes I have experienced, Bernhard Baron Care Home has the best environment and atmosphere.

Our father has been a resident at Bernhard Baron Cottage Home for seven months but has had two spells in hospital due to falls. We were satisfied that all risk assessments were in place and his wellbeing was maintained while he was away. More recently his general health has deteriorated and he is now
receiving care in bed which has been carried out in an extremely caring way.

The aspiration of Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes is to be a "community" a community of staff, residents and trustees. Tho their eternal credit the staff and trustees have managed to fulfil this asperation throughout the ravages of Covid. At the cost of restrictions to these, their own family lives the
staff have managed to keep the invasion of Covid to a minimum, yes! there had to be restrictions to community life for periods but we have come through to a renewed openness of life here.

I have been a resident in the main house of Bernhard Baron for the past seven months, and from the outset, I felt at home and very well cared for. I soon made some very good friends as there is a loving atmosphere among the residents, and the managers and all other staff members are extremely caring
and supportive. Most rooms are on the ground floor with access to the beautiful garden, well kept by our maintenance team. The meals are tasty and varied, and there are plenty of choices. The activities including outings are very well organised and enjoyable. I can thoroughly recommend Bernard Baron to anyone looking for a safe and pleasant environment and a comfortable home in which to spend the latter years of their life.

I came here into one of the cottages 18 months ago and have been impressed and grateful for all the amenities and the care I have received. I think the cottages are unique in providing an attractive, independent and comfortable home, but with daily care and food and extra care provided if needed, as
after my hip operation. They provide opportunities to mix with other people, but with a private place to return to. The gardens too are spacious and well maintained and colourful.

It's quite a solitary experience, living in a care home and facing up to the fact that one is here for the rest of life on this earth. Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes, however, is the place to do it. Cottage life is good, with freedom to come and go as one wishes. House residence when greater care becomes
necessary. My experience of nearly 5 years has been good. I am full of praise for the management during lockdown especially. We were cared for very well.

I came here 6 years ago and now have a pleasant room within the main building overlooking the rose garden and lovely flowers. The food is good and plentiful and varied, vegetarian and specific diets are catered for. Tea etc is always available. The carers and all staff are caring and helpful. The communal
rooms are available one is big enough for films, one with Books and DVDs to borrow. Weekly we have a Church Service, exercise and wellbeing classes. Two carers arrange outings in the minibus. Residents recite poetry and singing all run by residents. My only negative comment is that communication is poor and information is not always passed on. This is a good comfortable happy home.

I have lived here in a cottage since June 2019. Although things have changed considerably because of lockdown etc Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes have cared for me well. Our movements are restricted but it has been made possible for the cottages to meet together and share activities. Although we cannot
enter the main building as the more vulnerable residents live there, we do exercise outside daily and can meet in a marquee at the rear of the main building. Regular cleaning and health check-ups.
