My first time of putting my dad in respite care and I was a little anxious. The home was so friendly and helpful. Dad was well looked after and I felt content going away fro a short break knowing he was safe and happy. 10 out of 10 all round.

Based on visits to my aunt approximately once a month and eating lunch three times with her in the restaurant. I have only been at the home for short periods of time, so what I comment may not reflect the opinions of a resident, however I have always found staff to be friendly and helpful, and observed
patience with other residents at all times. The quality of the food was good, and there seems to be a lot of effort to provide activities for the residents, led by a very enthusiastic activities manager. The new manager has introduced some improvements and strengthened the management team.

My husband has been in Queensmead for two years. The care is excellent and I have no worried about staff etc. He has a catheter and is dealt with every night and morning with dignity. If an emergency occurs the doctor comes at once. Being a church minister I have much experience of homes.

My friend had been here for 6 months now. The staff are very caring, attentive and kind. They all treat all with the upmost dignity and kindness. They have patience and listen to every concern when they arise. The food is excellent, fruit is provided on tap and they cater for all. Our 6 choices and
activities are on a daily basis from exercise to even going to the theatre and pets come in on a monthly basis! The building is clean and rooms are cleaned on a daily basis. I cannot recommend this home enough. Everyone does their bit to make it homely and I am always welcome anytime of the day or night!! It's a very nice well kept friendly home.

The staff at The Queensmead are very caring and compassionate, since the new manager has arrived, improvements for the better have been taking place. Queensmead is looking a little tired, chairs in the lounge need replacing, the rooms need redecorating (which I realise is a difficult task), the carpets
are a little jaded and the menus could do with a revising. Overall Queensmead is a very caring and friendly home, which I would highly recommend. The nursing care when needed is very good.
Reply from Rebecca Hignett, Project Developer at Queensmead

Many thanks for your kind words and your comments.

We have taken into account your suggestions and the following is now taking place to try to remedy them:

As rooms are vacated, we are redecorating them and making them feel as homely as possible.

We are currently in the process of redecorating the lounge area, with a new activities room and new furnishings.

We understand that the carpets do need replacing and room by room, we are beginning to change them. However, this may be a long process as we wish to cause as little disruption as possible for our residents, staff and visitors!

Our chef has recently been to visit each resident individually to ask what meals they would like to eat and what they do not like, and in the next few weeks is going to revise the menus accordingly.

I hope that you can see that we are taking your comments into consideration and making positive changes to the home in response.

Current Review Score: 6.9 (6.918)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.9 (6.918) out of 10 for Queensmead is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.771 for Queensmead is calculated as follows: ( (13 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 3.771
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.147 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Queensmead is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.147
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
