Southlands Place is located in a quiet residential area in Bexhill-on-Sea, providing quality dementia, residential and nursing care for up to 71 elderly residents on a permanent and short stay basis.

With views of the coast and beautiful countryside visible from the dining room and terraces it really is a tranquil environment. There are various lounges that are perfect for socialising, a hair salon, private dining room, bistro, cinema and a stunning landscaped garden for residents to enjoy.

The social atmosphere is enhanced by a comprehensive and flexible program of activities which focuses on physical and emotional health while looking to make the most of community links and personal interests. Every room has been designed and furnished to the highest standard. Every bedroom features ensuite facilities, ground-floor rooms have private access to the landscaped gardens, and staff encourage residents to add personal items to help create a homely atmosphere.

My mother needed time to recover from 3-weeks in hospital following an injury and rebuild her confidence to be able to return home. From the moment we first looked around, the staff at Southlands Place have been brilliant. They have looked after my mum and kept me updated on her progress during her
stay when needed. I have been able to regularly visit any time of the week, which was helpful as I had to travel from London or Brighton. The room that she had was very well appointed, airy and clean. The other spaces are also very good and helped to encourage my mum to get out and about and talk to other residents. Mum is now home, and the staff have been great at helping me to make sure she has gone back to her house with appropriate support around her. Southlands is a lovely, friendly environment, and I am very happy to recommend.

Mum was transferred from hospital to Southlands just over a month ago for initially a month's respite care; she now doesn't want to go home! On arrival at the home, the family were all concerned about how Mum would adjust to such a big change. However, the friendliness and welcome from the staff soon
put us all at our ease. The care and attention to detail of Mum's individual needs have been respected and surpassed. Our experience to date is that this is a home where staff are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure the happiness and safety of their service users, and where any questions and concerns of the family have been met with professionalism and empathy. We were, as a family, dreading Mum being in a home. However, the change we have seen in the short time she has been at Southlands has been remarkable; she is eating a lot healthier, engaging with other residents, and in her own words, "is happier now than she has been in a very long time".

As nominated next of kin, over the last 4-weeks, I have been regularly visiting a friend of mine at Southlands Place. The strength of this home lies with the staff who work there. Cheerfully going the extra mile is the norm. For example, the barrier of my friend's severely impaired hearing was overcome
imaginatively by staff using the mobile notes dictation facility that allows you to instantly read on the screen exactly what is being said. Magic. There always seems to be someone knowledgeable available to answer the phone; this had been a nightmare problem in her two previous hospital settings. There is such a lovely can do atmosphere at Southlands Place. The building is modern, the standard of cleanliness is high. No, there isn't even a whiff of any unpleasant odours. There is a very clear understanding of the need to include residents in all discussions about their care/future provision and to respect their choices. Liaison with outside agencies is superb.

Very caring and compassionate. Staff with even an agee’s not afraid to ‘muck in’ during these difficult COVID times.
As a coeliac and diabetic as well as other physical issues, I was concerned about whether or not I would be ‘safe’. I needn’t have worried as the care staff and catering staff did everything
to make me feel secure and well cared for, even setting up separate storage and preparation of my food and temperature-sensitive medication.
I am only 65, and their youngest temporary resident, with most being post 80, so a lot of the activities are geared towards this age range, so saying the residents made me very welcome. We had some great conversations and one lady, at 91, my mother's age, is still as bright and ‘with it’ as people my own age!
I use an electric wheelchair and am quite able to manage my own medications, which they allowed me to do, for which I was grateful. Having my own fridge for personal treats as well as my own toaster was wonderful.

My mother who is 93 has been a resident of Southland's for coming up to a year. She is extremely content, the level of care from all staff members is excellent, as they will all go the extra mile to ensure her stay is as pleasant as possible. When my time comes I would be more than happy to spend it

Senior management at the home has been unwavering in their support to my grandparents. My grandparents have specific dietary likes/dislike; they have been able to make tailor-made meals for them. I am very grateful to them for making the transition into a care home as easy as possible.

I’m not sure how I would have coped without the support and guidance I’ve received from Southlands over the last few months. When others seemed not to care, they’ve been there helping every step of the way.


My mother has dementia, so is confused and gets upset easily, however, Southlands is the one

place she seems happy and settled. She has a lovely room overlooking the garden, and the staff encourage her to join in so she's not lonely or isolated. She has a whole floor to roam and many things to see and do. Knowing my mum is safe and happy means the world to me.

My mother has been in Southlands Place for 4 months now and is very happy here. She has a lovely room and the staff have gone the extra bit to provide her with extras such as a bookcase and a mirror. They've helped her to put up her own pictures and photos to make the room more personal. She loves the
food and the activity programme that allows her to plan out her day. The staff I've met are wonderful, friendly, caring and ready to chat and listen. The interactions between my mother and staff that I've observed clearly show real affection for her and her welfare. My mother says being in Southlands Place is like being in a luxury hotel.

My mother has been a resident at Southlands for 1-year and 3-months. Over this period her capacity had greatly declined, Southlands managed this well, being both sympathetic to my mother and the family. I feel the staff have always treated us with friendship and as individuals. Unfortunately, the onset
of covid has had an enormously detrimental effect on my mother general wellbeing, exacerbated by the restrictions of family contact imposed. However, through all this, I found the staff, both management and caring, kind, considerate, sympathetic and helpful whenever possible. They have managed to maintain their staff morale and humour through very difficult times. Well done and huge thanks.

Both my parents are residents at Southlands Place, my father has dementia and resides on the 1st floor, and my mother who is unable to look after herself is on the ground floor. The home is clean, and the food is good. I have nothing but praise for the carers, staff and management; they have been dedicated,
caring and professional. My father and mother could not have been better looked after.

My husband and I visited recently, with a view to selecting a care home for my Godmother. The staff were exceptionally professional and clearly passionate about this setting. We were taken around the outside of the building, wearing PPE, in line with recent Covid guidance. What we saw was singularly
impressive, both in terms of accommodation and care. All questions were answered openly and honestly and we left feeling that we would happily leave our very precious family member in the care of this team. Thank you so much for ensuring that we felt that a care package at Southlands Place could be a serious option for us.

I have not been inside the home other than an allocated public area for visiting since lockdown, so my comments are in relation to pre-covid. However, throughout covid, staff have always been helpful when phoning and visiting, and my father seems very well cared for. My comments in relation to management
are that admin procedures did not seem sufficient to get important information to the nursing staff/residents records. This has been rectified in relation to my father. The home has operated very well during covid.

My mother has only been at Southlands for a very short time but I am delighted that they are managing her dementia so well. We have had to admit her during this very challenging time of Covid-19, and all the staff we have dealt with have been supportive, understanding of her needs and have shown the
care and compassion we want to give our mother but cannot under the current Covid-19 restrictions.
They have completely understood her needs, she looks great was chatty and happy. The interaction with my mother and the staff was a joy to witness.
What a wonderful place - please keep up the good work.

Although I was worried about my husband going into full-time care, I now know it was the right decision. Southlands Place has been so good to my husband. The staff are excellent; they are really caring. There are so many activities for him to join in. Also, during this covid time, they have kept in
touch through Facebook pictures and telephone calls. Also, now with social distancing for 30-mins either in the garden or lounge in place eg face masks, gloves, aprons and temperature taken.

Job Title: Home Manager

I am proud to have been promoted from Deputy Manager to Home Manager at Southlands Place.


As a registered general nurse, I started out my career at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre working in the intensive care unit specialising in brain trauma and injury, supporting patients with neurological deficits. From there I transferred my skills to working with residents living with dementia. I have previously managed Nursing Homes and supported the needs of a diverse range of residents.


As Home Manager it is important to me that our residents receive the care and respect that they deserve and that they see this as their home and family. Every day my team want to make a difference in our residents’ lives, seeing a smile on their faces and laughing makes everything worthwhile.


I have an amazing team around me and It is important to me that my team are supported in their roles to assist our residents, as well as giving them the opportunity to develop and learn new skills as this is what has helped me throughout my career. We are all passionate and committed to making Southlands Place home for all.


I have lived in the local area for over 25 years and my favourite aspect is the seafront as well as the close community spirit, including the strong relationships that our home has with the local community. Outside of work, I enjoy running and reading, as well as walking my dogs and spending time with my family and friends.
