Senior management at the home has been unwavering in their support to my grandparents. My grandparents have specific dietary likes/dislike; they have been able to make tailor-made meals for them. I am very grateful to them for making the transition into a care home as easy as possible.

I’m not sure how I would have coped without the support and guidance I’ve received from Southlands over the last few months. When others seemed not to care, they’ve been there helping every step of the way.

My mother has dementia, so is confused and gets upset easily, however, Southlands is the one place she seems happy and settled. She has a lovely room overlooking the garden, and the staff encourage her to join in so she's not lonely or isolated. She has a whole floor to roam and many things to see and do. Knowing my mum is safe and happy means the world to me.

Thank you to the manager and the team.

My mother has been in Southlands Place for 4 months now and is very happy here. She has a lovely room and the staff have gone the extra bit to provide her with extras such as a bookcase and a mirror. They've helped her to put up her own pictures and photos to make the room more personal. She loves the food and the activity programme that allows her to plan out her day. The staff I've met are wonderful, friendly, caring and ready to chat and listen. The interactions between my mother and staff that I've observed clearly show real affection for her and her welfare. My mother says being in Southlands Place is like being in a luxury hotel.

My mother has been a resident at Southlands for 1-year and 3-months. Over this period her capacity had greatly declined, Southlands managed this well, being both sympathetic to my mother and the family. I feel the staff have always treated us with friendship and as individuals. Unfortunately, the onset of covid has had an enormously detrimental effect on my mother general wellbeing, exacerbated by the restrictions of family contact imposed. However, through all this, I found the staff, both management and caring, kind, considerate, sympathetic and helpful whenever possible. They have managed to maintain their staff morale and humour through very difficult times. Well done and huge thanks.

My mother spent 4/5 weeks for a respite stay.
As this was taking place amid Covid19 restrictions, my access was limited (had it not been, I would have been far more concerned).

An undoubtedly professional and well-equipped operation; I would/will be confident to leave my mother in their care, come the time.

Both my parents are residents at Southlands Place, my father has dementia and resides on the 1st floor, and my mother who is unable to look after herself is on the ground floor. The home is clean, and the food is good. I have nothing but praise for the carers, staff and management; they have been dedicated, caring and professional. My father and mother could not have been better looked after.

Southlands is working extremely hard to keep the residents safe from COVID, and so far, thankfully, through their professionalism, they are successful. I appreciate the care my mother is receiving and the high standard of accommodation she enjoys. It means a great deal to me to know that she is in safe and caring hands.

My husband and I visited recently, with a view to selecting a care home for my Godmother. The staff were exceptionally professional and clearly passionate about this setting. We were taken around the outside of the building, wearing PPE, in line with recent Covid guidance. What we saw was singularly impressive, both in terms of accommodation and care. All questions were answered openly and honestly and we left feeling that we would happily leave our very precious family member in the care of this team. Thank you so much for ensuring that we felt that a care package at Southlands Place could be a serious option for us.

I have not been inside the home other than an allocated public area for visiting since lockdown, so my comments are in relation to pre-covid. However, throughout covid, staff have always been helpful when phoning and visiting, and my father seems very well cared for. My comments in relation to management are that admin procedures did not seem sufficient to get important information to the nursing staff/residents records. This has been rectified in relation to my father. The home has operated very well during covid.

My mother has only been at Southlands for a very short time but I am delighted that they are managing her dementia so well. We have had to admit her during this very challenging time of Covid-19, and all the staff we have dealt with have been supportive, understanding of her needs and have shown the care and compassion we want to give our mother but cannot under the current Covid-19 restrictions.
They have completely understood her needs, she looks great was chatty and happy. The interaction with my mother and the staff was a joy to witness.

What a wonderful place - please keep up the good work.

Although I was worried about my husband going into full-time care, I now know it was the right decision. Southlands Place has been so good to my husband. The staff are excellent; they are really caring. There are so many activities for him to join in. Also, during this covid time, they have kept in touch through Facebook pictures and telephone calls. Also, now with social distancing for 30-mins either in the garden or lounge in place eg face masks, gloves, aprons and temperature taken.

From the onset initial visit, we (brothers and myself) were given a lovely welcome and viewing. We noted the cleanliness, tidiness and very little smell. As in other homes. The staff have been approachable and helpful especially with the initial settling in of my sister. I am pleased there is now a minibus available for trips out and more activities are being organised. Since beginning my review to now (Jan) I feel most of the ratings I have given have greatly improved. Thank you.

Four weeks ago we transferred my father 250 miles to Southlands Place to be near his family and I visit him every day. Dads care home is very impressive especially the quality and level of care he has thus far received. From the manager to the staff caring for Dad on the dementia unit, the care is diligent, professional and caring. Dad is responding positively which is wonderful. The building looks new and like a hotel! Despite being blind, underweight and lame Dad is extremely well fed with excellent nutritious food and taking new tentative steps in walking. Dad coming here is the best move for him and I'm delighted.

Environment, food, attitude of care/nursing staff always first class. Absolutely no complaints and always a pleasure to visit reception and second floor.

Had very little dealings with management, who are found "distant" - however, with no complaints, one can only suggest they are doing as good a job as the nursing staff.

My mum has been in the home for 2 years with dementia and now needing full nursing care. I can only speak for those staff that work on the 1st floor but I am sure the excellent care my mother gets is what all residents receive in the home. The staff are friendly and spend a lot of time with the residents, the entertainment is good and suitable for all needs. The home is clean and warm and has a homely feel. The main reason for this review is to praise the staff who are the very best at what they do, the dedication and consistent strive to meet all the needs of every resident is amazing. I go to the home every day at different times and every time I leave I know my mum is very well looked after. Thank you Southlands Place.

We found the staff extremely caring, compassionate and friendly.
It did seem that the home was short staffed but the staff, carers and nurses that were there could not be faulted.
The room mum had was lovely, clean and spacious and her bed very cosy and comfortable.

I'm sure everybody there helped to make mum's final days there as comfortable and peaceful as they could.

Meet the Team (1)

Fiona Yurteri Job Title: Home Manager
Fiona Yurteri

I have been at Southlands Place for over four years and am proud to have been promoted from Deputy Manager to Home Manager in that time.

As a registered general nurse, I started out my career at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre, working in the intensive care unit, specialising in brain trauma and injury, supporting patients with Neurological deficits. From there, I transferred my skills to working with residents living with dementia. I have previously managed Nursing Homes and supported the needs of a diverse range of residents.

It is important to me that our residents receive the care and respect that they deserve and that they see this as their home and family. Every day, my team and I want to make a difference to our residents’ lives, seeing a smile on their face and laughing makes everything worthwhile. I have an amazing team around me, and it is important to me that my team are supported in their roles to assist our residents, as well as giving them the opportunity to develop and learn new skills, as this is what has helped me throughout my career.

I hope to welcome you to Southlands Place soon, I’d be delighted to show you around. Best wishes, Fiona.
