Southlands Place is located in a quiet residential area in Bexhill-on-Sea, providing quality dementia, residential and nursing care for up to 71 elderly residents on a permanent and short stay basis.

With views of the coast and beautiful countryside visible from the dining room and terraces it really is a tranquil environment. There are various lounges that are perfect for socialising, a hair salon, private dining room, bistro, cinema and a stunning landscaped garden for residents to enjoy.

The social atmosphere is enhanced by a comprehensive and flexible program of activities which focuses on physical and emotional health while looking to make the most of community links and personal interests. Every room has been designed and furnished to the highest standard. Every bedroom features ensuite facilities, ground-floor rooms have private access to the landscaped gardens, and staff encourage residents to add personal items to help create a homely atmosphere.

Dementia training promotes the importance of an engaging environment for people living with dementia, ensuring they have the best living experience as well as receiving high quality care.

Staff are caring, and attentive. Residents are addressed by name and assisted as necessary. Everyone contributes to the family led from the top. Respect for each person is demonstrated. Gentleness and consideration are given. Dietary and other needs are met. A home from home. Food set out to temp any

My mother was admitted at the end of July on the 'nursing' floor. I repeatedly asked that she have access to a wheelchair but was told this wasn't possible as they didn't have the type she needed. I offered to fund it but got nowhere. My mother did not leave her room in the 3 months she was there. She
had no access to the 'wonderful entertainments' and was frequently left calling out for help. The senior management were very difficult to speak to and it was obvious they had no idea of the day to day care given to my mother.
Since moving to another home she has a dedicated wheelchair and is up and joining in with other residents. The change in her is remarkable.
To cap it all, I have still not received the deposit I paid. My dealings with the finance department have been a nightmare, emails are ignored or the statements that it will be sorted or the finance team will be in touch are just not true.

I cannot recommend Southlands Place enough. Due to Dad’s dementia, it was necessary for him to reside in a nursing home, and having been his primary carer, I was very anxious that my dad would not be guaranteed the care he needed if I wasn’t there to oversee.
All my worries were completely unfounded.
Southlands Place is a bright, modern, home-from-home with excellent facilities. The staff are amazing and cared for Dad as if he were part of their own family.
The staff were always on hand to give me updates on my dad's condition, and if I wasn’t there, they phoned me with updates.
Unfortunately, my dad’s condition deteriorated as is expected with dementia, but throughout his final days, the staff cared for both Dad and our family with the utmost care, respect, sensitivity and compassion until he passed.
I must give a special mention and our utmost thanks to three particular members of staff, as without your care, my dad and our family would not have coped with this stressful and emotional time.

Overall happy. The cooks could be better - more traditional food. It would be nice for the lounge fireplace to be on. The nurse is very kind and helpful.

The staff are so friendly and helpful. They really go out of their way and pay attention to detail. The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. There is always a lovely variety of organised activities on offer. It's a lovely, calm and relaxing atmosphere here.

On entering the home we felt a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. All the staff are professional and courteous. Any questions about Mum are always listened to and acted on if necessary. As a family we feel confident that Mum is in a caring, compassionate home.

Mum became a resident at Southlands Place in November 2022.
She could no longer cope at home and after a spell in hospital, it was decided that she should come to Southlands Place.
The care and attention that the staff gave Mum was excellent.
Nothing was too much trouble.
The nurses were dedicated
and very kind.
Mum commented on how much she enjoyed the variety of food that was served.
Sadly, Mum passed away a few weeks ago.
Thank you to all staff for supporting Mum and me.
I would highly recommend Southlands Place.

My 96-year-old dad has been at Southlands Place for four weeks now. My sister and I have only the highest praise for his care and support as he is now no longer safe to live at home independently on his own. The staff, from the care manager, deputy, reception, housekeepers, catering staff and especially
the wonderful, cheerful, friendly carers are a credit to the home. We have never seen anything to complain about - today on his 96th birthday - nothing was too much trouble - we had lunch in a beautifully decorated balloon-filled room with a superb meal, prosecco and special birthday care - it made his day.

My brother was "fast-tracked" from the hospital to Southlands Place at the end of December, with a prognosis of six months. Unfortunately, he passed away after three months, but during that time, he received excellent care and kindness from the staff. Thank you for making his last days as comfortable
and pain-free as possible.

I am very happy with the care my mother has received. Her food was pureed as she couldn't swallow solids and fortified drinks were provided. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I have recommended Southlands Place to a number of friends.

I'm dealing death of my father and the rapid deterioration of my mother's mental capacity, all in the space of 18 months. Originally, I had tried to keep my parents safe in the London house they'd owned since 1965. However, health and care services in London proved inadequate. I had laid the groundwork
for them to follow me to Sussex, but after Dad passed away, Mum was unable to look after herself sufficiently, dehydration and incorrect medicinal administration resulted in the first of three hospital admissions after just four months. Once she had become a danger to herself in July of this year, I sought assistance. Nothing tangible was available in London, so I followed up a lead for help at Southlands.
I'm sure Mum has no real understanding of the events of this spring, but now there's an obvious ring of care around Mum in her current environment. The meds, dehydration and nutritional issues have been dealt with, and to be selfish, I've finally had the head space to comprehend recent events.

My mother needed time to recover from 3-weeks in hospital following an injury and rebuild her confidence to be able to return home. From the moment we first looked around, the staff at Southlands Place have been brilliant. They have looked after my mum and kept me updated on her progress during her
stay when needed. I have been able to regularly visit any time of the week, which was helpful as I had to travel from London or Brighton. The room that she had was very well appointed, airy and clean. The other spaces are also very good and helped to encourage my mum to get out and about and talk to other residents. Mum is now home, and the staff have been great at helping me to make sure she has gone back to her house with appropriate support around her. Southlands is a lovely, friendly environment, and I am very happy to recommend.

Mum was transferred from hospital to Southlands just over a month ago for initially a month's respite care; she now doesn't want to go home! On arrival at the home, the family were all concerned about how Mum would adjust to such a big change. However, the friendliness and welcome from the staff soon
put us all at our ease. The care and attention to detail of Mum's individual needs have been respected and surpassed. Our experience to date is that this is a home where staff are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure the happiness and safety of their service users, and where any questions and concerns of the family have been met with professionalism and empathy. We were, as a family, dreading Mum being in a home. However, the change we have seen in the short time she has been at Southlands has been remarkable; she is eating a lot healthier, engaging with other residents, and in her own words, "is happier now than she has been in a very long time".

As nominated next of kin, over the last 4-weeks, I have been regularly visiting a friend of mine at Southlands Place. The strength of this home lies with the staff who work there. Cheerfully going the extra mile is the norm. For example, the barrier of my friend's severely impaired hearing was overcome
imaginatively by staff using the mobile notes dictation facility that allows you to instantly read on the screen exactly what is being said. Magic. There always seems to be someone knowledgeable available to answer the phone; this had been a nightmare problem in her two previous hospital settings. There is such a lovely can do atmosphere at Southlands Place. The building is modern, the standard of cleanliness is high. No, there isn't even a whiff of any unpleasant odours. There is a very clear understanding of the need to include residents in all discussions about their care/future provision and to respect their choices. Liaison with outside agencies is superb.

Very caring and compassionate. Staff with even an agee’s not afraid to ‘muck in’ during these difficult COVID times.
As a coeliac and diabetic as well as other physical issues, I was concerned about whether or not I would be ‘safe’. I needn’t have worried as the care staff and catering staff did everything
to make me feel secure and well cared for, even setting up separate storage and preparation of my food and temperature-sensitive medication.
I am only 65, and their youngest temporary resident, with most being post 80, so a lot of the activities are geared towards this age range, so saying the residents made me very welcome. We had some great conversations and one lady, at 91, my mother's age, is still as bright and ‘with it’ as people my own age!
I use an electric wheelchair and am quite able to manage my own medications, which they allowed me to do, for which I was grateful. Having my own fridge for personal treats as well as my own toaster was wonderful.

    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I am proud to have been promoted from Deputy Manager to Home Manager at Southlands Place.


As a registered general nurse, I started out my career at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre working in the intensive care unit specialising in brain trauma and injury, supporting patients with neurological deficits. From there I transferred my skills to working with residents living with dementia. I have previously managed Nursing Homes and supported the needs of a diverse range of residents.


As Home Manager it is important to me that our residents receive the care and respect that they deserve and that they see this as their home and family. Every day my team want to make a difference in our residents’ lives, seeing a smile on their faces and laughing makes everything worthwhile.


I have an amazing team around me and It is important to me that my team are supported in their roles to assist our residents, as well as giving them the opportunity to develop and learn new skills as this is what has helped me throughout my career. We are all passionate and committed to making Southlands Place home for all.


I have lived in the local area for over 25 years and my favourite aspect is the seafront as well as the close community spirit, including the strong relationships that our home has with the local community. Outside of work, I enjoy running and reading, as well as walking my dogs and spending time with my family and friends.
