Wonderful state-of-the-art, newly built care home with spacious en-suite rooms and beautifully furnished sitting and dining rooms. But best of all, the staff were fantastic, both caring and professional. My mother could not have been better looked after.

After three very distressing weeks, with my father in and out of hospital. He was assessed by the Southlands manager. Her understanding and compassion for our desperate situation meant that my father did not have to spend another weekend in hospital. He is now settled and safe in Southlands. Staff and
management have been amazing, so supportive. Southlands does not have a nursing home feel as my father would not tolerate that. It is a beautiful place, so bright and cheerful, it lifts the spirit. Residents and relatives are treated with respect and kindness. It feels like home, a truly holistic environment.

My 90-year-old cousin moved into Southlands Place after a hip replacement. She needs nursing care due to moderate dementia and relative immobility. It is a new home which is light, airy and well appointed. Her room is bright and comfortable with en-suite facilities. The staff are very caring, friendly
and efficient, spending a lot of time ensuring that all the resident's needs are met. I had lunch in the home and the choice, quality and quantity of food was excellent.

I am very impressed with the nursing home. It is clean/tidy and everyone of the staff are friendly and caring. Also very helpful with any questions or problems, my friends was very disorientated and upset at her move from hospital but the staff were very able and kind to her, we felt quite happy at
leaving her in their charge.

My mother, who has dementia, recently had 2 weeks excellent respite care at Southlands Place. It is a wonderful care home with very caring, friendly skilled staff led by an inspirational manager. The brand new care home is beautiful with excellent well appointed facilities. The varied daily activities
were just what my mother needed to keep her stimulated. When we collected my mother she had a healthy glow, was happy and relaxed which is testament to the excellent care she received at Southlands Place.

Southlands Place has numerous facilities in a purpose designed, new building in a pleasant location. Excellent care is being provided and once there are more residents it is expected that the variety of activities will increase even further. Early days yet but huge potential to be a wonderful care home.
Reply from Brigid Sedour, Home Manager at Southlands PlaceThank you for your positive review of Southlands Place. We are delighted that you were so pleased with the level of care and thank you for your comments about the overall standard of our home. We build our care team to ensure they are able to provide person-centred care and spend valuable time with our residents. Now that the weather has improved, we are looking at more outside pursuits and also visiting the allotment which we look after in conjunction with other members of the Bexhill Action Alliance Group. Our cupcake baking for the Alzheimer’s society was a great success and residents relished the opportunity to be involved in this venture. We always welcome the opportunity to improve and hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us in the home.

I could not feel happier and more satisfied with the care that my father receives at the above home. He has settled so well and this is down to all staff at the home. The home is beautiful and so homely.

The care staff and nursing care were excellent. Nothing appeared too much trouble for them and they undertook their duties with skill and care and always appeared friendly and concerned for ones welfare.
The kitchen staff were excellent and the food was of a high standard.
The administrative staff
were also excellent and always available to deal with any queries one might have. I could find no fault with this care home. Service at meal times was also very good.

A very welcoming atmosphere was felt on my visit to Southlands Place both from the staff and very pleasant bright and fresh surroundings. My mother has settled quickly into her new home and we have every confidence that she is being well cared for by everyone at Southlands Place. Each time we visit
mum seems content and being attended to by staff or happily sitting with other residents. We are delighted with all aspects of Southlands Place.

Everyone very friendly. Plenty of staff to talk to residents and make sure they are happy. Respond to their needs. Perhaps could co with a "messy" lounge where games, books, dominoes etc are left on tables to be picked up, used and left. Tables in lounges too low to play games or leave puzzles out.
Maybe need some exercise area. Need a cloakroom for visitors winter coats.

I am so glad that Southlands opened in Bexhill last month just as I was looking for a really lovely rest home for my father. Not only is the building top class but the staff are so kind, considerate, friendly and patient. Nothing seems too much trouble. They take the utmost care and carry in their work
in the most friendly and approachable way. I could very happily live there myself. I can't recommend them highly enough. They are going to set the standard for care in Bexhill now. We need more care homes of this standard.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.668)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.668) out of 10 for Southlands Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.668 for Southlands Place is calculated as follows: ( (313 Excellents x 5) + (81 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 416 Ratings = 4.668
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Southlands Place is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have been at Southlands Place for over four years and am proud to have been promoted from Deputy Manager to Home Manager in that time.

As a registered general nurse, I started out my career at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre, working in the intensive care unit, specialising in brain trauma and injury, supporting patients with Neurological deficits. From there, I transferred my skills to working with residents living with dementia. I have previously managed Nursing Homes and supported the needs of a diverse range of residents.

It is important to me that our residents receive the care and respect that they deserve and that they see this as their home and family. Every day, my team and I want to make a difference to our residents’ lives, seeing a smile on their face and laughing makes everything worthwhile. I have an amazing team around me, and it is important to me that my team are supported in their roles to assist our residents, as well as giving them the opportunity to develop and learn new skills, as this is what has helped me throughout my career.

I hope to welcome you to Southlands Place soon, I’d be delighted to show you around. Best wishes, Fiona.
