Established in 1991, Avon House was one of the first care homes to specialise in dementia care. The home is part of the Cobham Care Group along with its sister home Avon Manor. The home is situated in a quiet, tree-lined road that is only a short distance from Worthing Hospital, Worthing town centre and the seafront.

Cobham Care’s philosophy is that every resident is an individual - individuals’ needs change and therefore need to be continually addressed. In order to achieve this at Avon House, information about a resident’s life and loved ones is gathered from relatives soon after admission. This allows carers to better understand the individual and treat them with a greater degree of sensitivity and understanding. They pride themselves on the friendly, caring and homely atmosphere they provide. Where the residents are encouraged to lead an active, dignified and independent life.

The large number of staff are selected for their kindness, patience and their ability to care for people with dementia. All staff are provided with training in first aid, manual handling, understanding dementia, safeguarding vulnerable adults and other relevant subjects. The careful selection process and ongoing training and assessment is a comfort to relatives who, understandably, are very worried about entrusting loved ones to the care of others. It also ensures that the residents are receiving the highest level of care.

The residents’ rooms are situated on the ground and first floors. Whilst every room is fully furnished, Avon House is pleased to accommodate any personal belongings a resident may wish to bring.

I cannot praise Avon House highly enough for their ability to make residents and family members feel safe, comfortable and part of a family.
The building is cosy and decorated with familiar, age appropriate pictures to promote memories and conversations.
The care is resident centred and kind, with
individual needs and interests at the forefront.
My husband was gently encouraged to engage in activities, but allowed to pursue his own interests without being pressured.
I was always kept informed of any changes in his behaviour or health, particularly in the final stages of his condition.
His end of life care was second to none. He was comfortable and a senior carer was with him at the end.
I will always be grateful to the staff at Avon House for their kindness and support to my husband and to me.

Since my mum has been in Avon House, she has drastically improved. The staff and management are absolutely amazing, it is like a home from home, and my mum, who has dementia, is so happy, it is heartwarming to see her like this and it is total peace of mind for me knowing she is receiving this top level
of care.

My Mother has been in Avon House as a resident for about 16 months. We were very impressed from the outset when we met the Team. We are really glad that Mum is staying at Avon House. Everyone has been exceptionally supportive and professional. The Teams knowledge surrounding Dementia is excellent with
the handling of different situations always being dealt with compassion and understanding. A great Team, well managed and a pleasure to see them regularly.

Putting my husband in care was the most difficult choice I've ever had to make but choosing Avon House was totally the right decision.
The care coordinator was really professional in explaining things on my initial visit but very reassuring that I was doing the right thing for both of us. When the
care manager made the home visit she new exactly how to talk to my husband and soon had him agreeing to
"give it a go".
All the staff were very respectful in the way they treated him but also managed to have a laugh with him along the way which made a real difference.
There were some who went above and beyond and I will always be grateful to them.
There were plenty of activities organised and, although they didn't tend to join in, I'm hopeful that he enjoyed watching. He was also taken out, sometimes to the pub, and I can see from photos that it was a popular outing.
Although the home could do with an update, it's always very clean and the food good and well presented.
Keep up the good work. You're all doing great.

This is a wonderful care home. The home is very clean and well presented. The staff are very kind, helpful and great with my Mum. My Mum is well settled here, well cared for and there is very good entertainment provided by entertainers who come to the home. The staff also provide a lot of activities
for the residents too. They do their best to make every resident feel at home.

My mother stayed at Avon House for 3.5 years in that time, I could see that she was very very well looked after, everyone was truly amazing. My mother passed away in March 2025 and I am so very glad she was living in Avon House at the time. I am very thankful for all the people that cared for her.

Thank you so much to all the staff at Avon House for looking after my mother wonderfully for the last 18 months of her life. Communication with me, as next of kin, was superb: the staff always informed me of any changes and kept me updated as she gradually deteriorated and faded away. In particular,
I always felt that she was respected as a valuable individual human being right to the very end, with instinctive regard for her and her choices. The regular updates of activities via the social media page were great and a really good example of how you don't have to do expensive things to provide stimulation - normally the opposite is true and Avon House are a brilliant example of it. There always seemed to be something to engage the residents if they chose to participate, but never any pressure if they did not. This was her 5th care home - but the only one in which she settled. In particular, 5/5 is not enough for being treated with dignity. Can I give 10/5 please?!

Knowing my dad is safe and secure at Avon House is a huge relief. The staff makes it a fantastic environment for the residents to feel comfortable and happy. They are always doing engaging activities, providing good nourishment and great care to all residents. They give regular and detailed reports/updates
so that we are always kept in the loop. It is always clean and I love taking my little boy to visit his grandad. I couldn't imagine a better place for dad to be.

I moved into Avon House in August 2023, since being here I have made friends and feel settled. My meals are lovely and the home is clean.
All the staff are lovely and I enjoy lots of activities, especially the Arts and Crafts.

Absolutely fantastic home full of engagement for residents and enthusiastic workers. Lots of inclusive activities such as arts and crafts, musicians, singers, sporting events and board games. Since my mum has been at Avon House it has taken all the worry away. She is well cared for and I know that if the staff have any concerns they call me to discuss so that I am fully aware of any situation. The activities are good and varied and all the staff are so friendly and treat all the residents
well and engage with them. I would highly recommend this care home to anyone whose loved one is suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Tracy has been working in health and social care since 1990 and has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge over the years


As the Manager of Avon House, I feel that I can make a difference in individual's lives who are on their dementia journey, by promoting the core values of care, privacy, dignity, rights, choices and independence. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to support and care for people in the later stages of life, providing the care they wish to receive in the way they would like, just because a person is living with dementia, does not mean they are unable to make decisions. We are their voice and I am passionate that they should be heard.


I have worked every job in care over the years and the most important part to me is enriching our Resident's lives and making many happy memories. I am proud to have the opportunity to look after others and work with such a great team.

Siobhan has worked in the care sector for 27 years, mainly working with individuals living with dementia.
In her role as Care Manager, Siobhan is responsible for the day to day running of the home, ensuring quality care is being delivered.
Siobhan said" I really enjoy my job and no two days are the same, I believe the key is to lead by example.
