Established in 1991, Avon House was one of the first care homes to specialise in dementia care. The home is part of the Cobham Care Group along with its sister home Avon Manor. The home is situated in a quiet, tree-lined road that is only a short distance from Worthing Hospital, Worthing town centre and the seafront.

Cobham Care’s philosophy is that every resident is an individual - individuals’ needs change and therefore need to be continually addressed. In order to achieve this at Avon House, information about a resident’s life and loved ones is gathered from relatives soon after admission. This allows carers to better understand the individual and treat them with a greater degree of sensitivity and understanding. They pride themselves on the friendly, caring and homely atmosphere they provide. Where the residents are encouraged to lead an active, dignified and independent life.

The large number of staff are selected for their kindness, patience and their ability to care for people with dementia. All staff are provided with training in first aid, manual handling, understanding dementia, safeguarding vulnerable adults and other relevant subjects. The careful selection process and ongoing training and assessment is a comfort to relatives who, understandably, are very worried about entrusting loved ones to the care of others. It also ensures that the residents are receiving the highest level of care.

The residents’ rooms are situated on the ground and first floors. Whilst every room is fully furnished, Avon House is pleased to accommodate any personal belongings a resident may wish to bring.

Avon House is a small wonderful dementia care home which is run excellently. I visit my mother every week and I have never had any concerns in the three years she has been there. She is treated with respect and dignity. Always clean, nicely dressed, never in dirty clothes and has never smelt. The staff
are all so kind, assist my mother, family and treat her with respect. They also encourage residents to participate in activities which take place frequently. Outside entertainment organised and immensely enjoyed by all. Any concerns are always addressed and discussed in full, including family, all done in confidence. Thank you Avon House.

My aunty initially became a temporary resident at Avon House Care Home for respite care.
She was very anxious but the lovely staff did everything possible to settle her. I was able to bring in personal items of hers and to aid her to feel at home.
Over a few weeks, it became obvious she was becoming
more her old self despite the increasing dementia. She wasn’t remembering to eat at home but with amazing food and regular snacks, she looks so much healthier.
All the staff have taken the time to get to know her and treat her as an individual to enable her to feel safe and understood.
My aunty enjoys the company of others and happily joins in the many activities the home regularly offers. I am the very proud owner of a beautiful bead necklace she lovingly made for me.
Sadly, her dementia has declined to the degree that she cannot return to independent living and I’m so happy she is to stay permanently at Avon House, especially as I live so far away.
My thanks go to all the wonderful staff.

The manager and the other staff have been so kind and caring in helping my uncle to settle into Avon House. Upon visiting my uncle he seemed very happy and well looked after.
The whole place has a nice homely feel and my uncle said he really enjoyed the food.

The team at Avon House Care Home are very helpful. Visiting is easy and convenient with entertainment days a regular feature. Outside activities are encouraged with access in and out of the establishment hustle-free. A cheerful atmosphere and friendly feeling exist within the staff and guests.

I cannot rate the staff and manager highly enough for the care and compassion shown to my father whilst in their care.
Although his time with them was brief, he was shown the utmost respect and dignity for his and the family's wishes.
From cleaning staff, chefs, carers and management, the whole team
made the journey easier and more bearable.
Thank you to everyone who helped my dad in his last few months.

I have a patient I care for who is a very good friend. He is so happy and am happy. He was so lonely, caring at home was so lonely for him. When I visited him he was so happy. He said the food was good staff are so nice friendly and caring and he loves being at this home, which is very important for
him and myself. I can visit him any time of the day and I am always welcomed by the staff. When my friend is happy I am happy. Patient, happy nurses thank you.

Avon House is a friendly care home providing comfort and professional help. Guests are always welcome any time of day to visit loved ones. Entertainment within a large social room to host various events forms a big part of the care home. Individual rooms for each resident for sleeping or private quiet
time are available for each resident at all times. Constant care and attention are provided by the excellent staff.

My dad moved into Avon House in November 2022. This was an extremely hard decision to make and a difficult time for our family. All the staff at Avon House were so supportive and approachable and instantly put our minds at ease. My dad always looks happy, smart and clean and his room is spotless. The

Avon House is friendly and welcoming. Every member of staff chats to residents and visitors. Mum always comments about how kind everyone is to her and how well she is looked after. Mum especially appreciated her delicious meals and the fact that the kitchen staff remember how she likes things and nothing
is too much trouble. Mum is well cared for and appreciates the help she is given to choose matching outfits and have her hair done.

Avon House is wonderful, the staff are so caring and dedicated and make it the best environment for the residents as possible. My dad was there from May 2022 until very recently when he sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s. We are so grateful to the marvellous team. Dad settled so well and it was a pleasure
to visit him there, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The food is excellent and the home is absolutely spotless. Avon House is a shining example of how a care home should be and they all deserve the highest of praise. Knowing my dad was being looked after by such a marvellous team made the sadness of his condition so much easier to deal with. We were so lucky that my dad spent his last few months in Avon House. Our whole family thanks them all from the bottom of our hearts.

My mother spent the last year of her life in the wonderful care of the incredible staff at Avon House. I can honestly say Mum could not have been in a more welcoming and caring environment. We moved my nan from another care home to Avon House. Since moving, she has become more sociable and happier. I now feel more secure in the knowledge that my nana is safe and secure. I always get such a lovely warm welcome when I visit.

We couldn't have moved our Grandad into a better home. It is always clean and smells nice, the food is great and always smells so good. All the staff are wonderful from housekeeping, laundry, kitchen, carers and management. They are all so caring and thoughtful and nothing is ever too much trouble for
them. The management go above and behind to get things sorted. They have a great selection of activities for the residents which they all seem to enjoy including events that the family can attend as well which are great fun. It has a real family feel to it which we love. Go Team Avon, keep up the great work.

We found Avon House friendly, and caring, especially during the difficult time of covid and being unable to visit, they were always available and patient when all we were able to do was phone for updates as to how our friend was settling in. They always had plenty of activities going on and while our
friend was only going to stay a short time, she was so happy she wanted to stay. Which says an awful lot about the staff and the home.

The home is always clean and smells fresh, we are always made to feel very welcome. The care staff and management go above and beyond to ensure all residents are clean, safe and happy, nothing is ever too much trouble.

Tracy has been working in health and social care since 1990 and has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge over the years


As the Manager of Avon House, I feel that I can make a difference in individual's lives who are on their dementia journey, by promoting the core values of care, privacy, dignity, rights, choices and independence. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to support and care for people in the later stages of life, providing the care they wish to receive in the way they would like, just because a person is living with dementia, does not mean they are unable to make decisions. We are their voice and I am passionate that they should be heard.


I have worked every job in care over the years and the most important part to me is enriching our Resident's lives and making many happy memories. I am proud to have the opportunity to look after others and work with such a great team.

Siobhan Sleet

Siobhan has worked in the care sector for 27 years, mainly working with individuals living with dementia.
In her role as Care Manager, Siobhan is responsible for the day to day running of the home, ensuring quality care is being delivered.
Siobhan said" I really enjoy my job and no two days are the same, I believe the key is to lead by example.
I pride myself on knowing each of my Residents and their families personally and find my role very rewarding, " they are like my extended family".
