Established in 1991, Avon House was one of the first care homes to specialise in dementia care. The home is part of the Cobham Care Group along with its sister home Avon Manor. The home is situated in a quiet, tree-lined road that is only a short distance from Worthing Hospital, Worthing town centre and the seafront.

Cobham Care’s philosophy is that every resident is an individual - individuals’ needs change and therefore need to be continually addressed. In order to achieve this at Avon House, information about a resident’s life and loved ones is gathered from relatives soon after admission. This allows carers to better understand the individual and treat them with a greater degree of sensitivity and understanding. They pride themselves on the friendly, caring and homely atmosphere they provide. Where the residents are encouraged to lead an active, dignified and independent life.

The large number of staff are selected for their kindness, patience and their ability to care for people with dementia. All staff are provided with training in first aid, manual handling, understanding dementia, safeguarding vulnerable adults and other relevant subjects. The careful selection process and ongoing training and assessment is a comfort to relatives who, understandably, are very worried about entrusting loved ones to the care of others. It also ensures that the residents are receiving the highest level of care.

The residents’ rooms are situated on the ground and first floors. Whilst every room is fully furnished, Avon House is pleased to accommodate any personal belongings a resident may wish to bring.

The care home is amazing. The staff are excellent, caring, and thoughtful. My mother-in-law and all the residents are happy and so well looked after. The home itself is always clean and tidy. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Residents are kept entertained and stimulated. The meals look and
smell wonderful. Would highly recommend Avon House. Moving my mother-in-law here from her previous care home was absolutely the best thing for her. She is extremely happy, content and well looked after. Thank you so much Avon House and all the staff.

I love going to see Mum. Avon House is a happy home. The staff are lovely. Well cleaned. My mum is so happy there. I can discuss anything with the staff. They always have time. They really put themselves into their job to do the best for all the residents there. All lovely.

My Dad is new to Avon House but I have to say the home and its wonderful staff have exceeded any expectations I had. They have made my Dad and our family so welcome, nothing is too much trouble. My mother was placed here for respite care for 3-weeks, and the care that she has received has been outstanding. She has been treated with dignity and understanding.
She has enjoyed the experience and will miss all the staff. The management is amazing, and the home is spotless, food wonderful, and

Very happy with the care provided. I feel very confident that any situation that arises is dealt with and advised straight away to our family. I would like to say that during this Covid-19 crisis, that all the staff at Avon House are doing an outstanding job. The Home has been in lockdown since 13 March and as of today (15 April), there is no sign of anyone having the virus (I now must touch wood!)
The policy seems to be that the staff just
travel between Avon House and their own homes, not exercising or shopping. Now that is impressive, and I would like to thank everyone for looking after my Mum and all the other residents so well.

When my mother became a resident of Avon House nearly 5 years ago, in spite of her dementia she was fast on her feet, intrusive into the rooms of others and generally fairly disruptive. She was hard to keep up with and hard work. Over the years she changed and was more manageable until her end of life
care last week, including her death in the home. The staff, during all those years, were utterly wonderful in every situation, including her last moments. She was always treated with understanding and loving-kindness and total respect. Mealtimes were always special, and she always ate freshly cooked food with relish. Care is always that fundamental ingredient, whatever the facilities, and in all, she had to her last moments. I could not have asked for more.

I feel so lucky that my mum is at Avon House.
The staff and management always show care and consideration to the residents and treat them with respect.
I feel that mum is safe and well looked after and as happy as she can be.
I am always made to feel welcome when I visit Avon House to see mum and
am kept up to date with any health issues that may arise.
Knowing mum is in such a caring, clean, happy environment gives me real peace of mind.

Mum has been at Avon House since May 2017. I can't praise the home or staff enough. Mum is treated so kindly and with respect. Such a homely environment too. I can visit mum whenever I like day or late at night. The manager is very good at sorting out any issues one might have.

Avon House specialises in caring for people with dementia. The home is spotlessly clean and well equipped. The staff are friendly and approachable and welcome visitors. Mum is well looked after.
There are regular meetings for family members and these provide an opportunity to discuss any issues and
celebrate success.
Activities are encouraged on a daily basis. The menu is varied. Residents are encouraged to use the communal areas.
It is a pleasure to visit Mum and chat with the staff.

Avon House is a very caring environment. The staff were always friendly and welcoming offering a cup of tea and biscuits or lunch if you wanted to stay. My uncle enjoyed the food and gained weight which he needed to do. The staff were adaptable to my uncle's needs and requirements, making his stay as

I would like to give an excellent review to Avon House. My mother was looked after so well by the staff, the manager and her team. The food is very good. They were so kind and thoughtful right up to her dying hour. It is so sad she has passed at 91. Well done everyone and thank you.

My mother has been in the care home for the past 10 months and I cannot commend the management and staff highly enough. Daily visits from entertainers, musicians and therapists and also in-house activities have helped structure my mother's mental health. Monthly updates and frequent relative group meetings
discussing the needs of residents and giving support to the families. My mother has been taken on excursions to tea rooms in the country and visits to the towns and seaside. Visiting times are often open-ended and relatives and friends are encouraged to join in with the activities. The food is excellent and the liquid refreshments are encouraged and offered all day. My mother's medical needs are taken care of. I cannot recommend this home highly enough.

The staff are generally kind, considerate and understanding. I am kept informed of any changes or problems with my parents who are both in the home. I find this Dementia care home to be excellent in the way my mother has been cared for in over three years, the manager and care staff are well trained and approachable to any concerns we may have as a family. I do the care review every four weeks to assess my mothers situation, she is well cared for
in all her emotional, physical and mental requirements. They are also supportive and reassuring to us as a family as this is a heartbreaking and stressful time, having a relative with Alzheimer's.
My mothers condition is gradually deteriorating and I feel she is in a secure, caring and happy environment to end her last days. I would recommend this care home to anyone who requires Dementia care.

I have always found the management and staff to be welcoming, when not busy they often have a chat with me which I find pleasant. The home is always clean and presentable. My sister, brother and I all feel the same, and are most pleased our mother has made it her home!

Tracy has been working in health and social care since 1990 and has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge over the years


As the Manager of Avon House, I feel that I can make a difference in individual's lives who are on their dementia journey, by promoting the core values of care, privacy, dignity, rights, choices and independence. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to support and care for people in the later stages of life, providing the care they wish to receive in the way they would like, just because a person is living with dementia, does not mean they are unable to make decisions. We are their voice and I am passionate that they should be heard.


I have worked every job in care over the years and the most important part to me is enriching our Resident's lives and making many happy memories. I am proud to have the opportunity to look after others and work with such a great team.

Siobhan Sleet

Siobhan has worked in the care sector for 27 years, mainly working with individuals living with dementia.
In her role as Care Manager, Siobhan is responsible for the day to day running of the home, ensuring quality care is being delivered.
Siobhan said" I really enjoy my job and no two days are the same, I believe the key is to lead by example.
