Established in 1991, Avon House was one of the first care homes to specialise in dementia care. The home is part of the Cobham Care Group along with its sister home Avon Manor. The home is situated in a quiet, tree-lined road that is only a short distance from Worthing Hospital, Worthing town centre and the seafront.

Cobham Care’s philosophy is that every resident is an individual - individuals’ needs change and therefore need to be continually addressed. In order to achieve this at Avon House, information about a resident’s life and loved ones is gathered from relatives soon after admission. This allows carers to better understand the individual and treat them with a greater degree of sensitivity and understanding. They pride themselves on the friendly, caring and homely atmosphere they provide. Where the residents are encouraged to lead an active, dignified and independent life.

The large number of staff are selected for their kindness, patience and their ability to care for people with dementia. All staff are provided with training in first aid, manual handling, understanding dementia, safeguarding vulnerable adults and other relevant subjects. The careful selection process and ongoing training and assessment is a comfort to relatives who, understandably, are very worried about entrusting loved ones to the care of others. It also ensures that the residents are receiving the highest level of care.

The residents’ rooms are situated on the ground and first floors. Whilst every room is fully furnished, Avon House is pleased to accommodate any personal belongings a resident may wish to bring.

I have always found the management and staff to be welcoming, when not busy they often have a chat with me which I find pleasant. The home is always clean and presentable. My sister, brother and I all feel the same, and are most pleased our mother has made it her home!

Tracy has been working in health and social care since 1990 and has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge over the years


As the Manager of Avon House, I feel that I can make a difference in individual's lives who are on their dementia journey, by promoting the core values of care, privacy, dignity, rights, choices and independence. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to support and care for people in the later stages of life, providing the care they wish to receive in the way they would like, just because a person is living with dementia, does not mean they are unable to make decisions. We are their voice and I am passionate that they should be heard.


I have worked every job in care over the years and the most important part to me is enriching our Resident's lives and making many happy memories. I am proud to have the opportunity to look after others and work with such a great team.

Siobhan Sleet

Siobhan has worked in the care sector for 27 years, mainly working with individuals living with dementia.
In her role as Care Manager, Siobhan is responsible for the day to day running of the home, ensuring quality care is being delivered.
Siobhan said" I really enjoy my job and no two days are the same, I believe the key is to lead by example.
I pride myself on knowing each of my Residents and their families personally and find my role very rewarding, " they are like my extended family".
