Both parents have been residents sadly lost my father late last year. During this period we have seen how hard the team work to care for them on my Farther's last days they came in on there days of to keep me company . They always greet with a smile and we are kept update on how my parents are .

If I have anything to question would be maybe more outings but I understand this is very difficult with the amount of staff needed .

My wife came in with a wedding ring (49 years) and left without it! She also suffered a fall which left her with severe facial injuries. Also I note staff spend a lot of time on their phones which means they are not looking after the residents.

Reply from Management, home manager at The Martlets

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. We are very sorry to hear about your wife's fall and understand how upsetting this must have been for you both. We take all concerns regarding residents' wellbeing and personal belongings very seriously, and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss these matters with you directly so we can look into them fully.

Really welcoming when arriving to see my father. Staff were very attentive and arranged seating so we could be with him as didn't want to disturb other residents.
Whilst there offered refreshments and dad was given them to as well as biscuits which he really enjoyed.

His room was really clean and tidy also.

From my first visit to the Martlets I have had nothing but a positive experience.
I was given a tour by Hayley, who was excellent and very knowledgeable, she took her time to answer all of my questions and there were a lot.
All of the carers have been very helpful, friendly and professional, going out of their way to get to know my father's likes and dislikes, making him feel welcomed and helping him settle in.

He has been in the Martlets for about five weeks and is very happy. I would highly recommend this care home, I can not thank and praise them enough

After working in the care sector of the NHS for over 20 years, I am no stranger to the horror stories of care homes. I visited the home with my husband not once but twice at different times of the day. The open door policy says a lot about the home. Hayley the deputy manager did an excellent job providing all of the information and answering all of my questions and I had a lot. We have experienced the Dementia floor and now the Residential floor and can honestly say that the care provided is excellent. All of the Staff on both floors are very diligent making it very comfortable and a better experience for my mother in law. There is a lovely garden that we spend time in visiting, and the staff always bring my mother and father in law tea and biscuits which is always appreciated. The Team leaders I had the most interaction with regarding my father in law have been Christian and Tina, and both have been very open and always dealt promptly and professionally with with any cares or concerns

I would like to give a big shout out to Paige, one of the activities staff, her care and compassion are second to none, she really has helped my Mum, who struggles with in social situations, she has managed to get her to join in activities and took her to the beach, my Mums favourite place, which really made her happy, I cannot praise Paige enough for the time and effort she has put in to make my Mums quality of life so much nicer, I'm very happy that she is being well cared for.

My Mum has been going for respite at the Martlets several times a year for nearly 3 years. The staff and management are friendly and professional and there is generally a homely atmosphere, not an institutional one. The building is spacious, light and well cared for. My Mum is welcomed back each time which makes the whole process easier. The management and carers go out of their way to try to meet requests.

My mum has now been in the martlets for a year and over all they have been wonderful. The manager Jess is always very responsive, all the managers, nurses and staff are always friendly and approachable. I understand we may not have been the easiest family / resident to deal with having a lot go on during my mums first year but they have been very accommodating and flexible. Medically not one single emergency or trip to hospital, stark contrast to before my mum came to the home. They have beautiful Xmas decorations up at the moment, they make the effort to make the home look nice which is lovely, overall im very happy with how things have gone over the last year and any grumbles are minor in the grand scheme of things :)

Mum has settled well since getting a placement here a year age.
The staff are very kind and mum is looked after well.
Meals are home cooked to a very good standard every day and hot and cold drinks available when requested.
All areas kept very clean.
All wings of the home are secure at all times.
There is a very nice garden surrounding the home which has lots of wildlife visiting.
Mums bedroom is nice and bright facing the garden and has an ensuite bathroom.

Excellent care all round. Mum is very happy here.

My Mum has been in for respite a number of times now,
We have always been made welcome by all the staff and treated very well.
The home is a lovely place with plenty of space to move around with different rooms to go.
Everyone has been brillant and I'm sure My Mum has enjoyed her time and been looked after.
It has also given me peace of mind as I didn't know what to expect when we came for the first time.
So I am truely greatful to all the staff.
You do have to keep an eye on clothes items that can get mislade but tend to turn up, But being a 80 bedroom home I think this will always happen, so do make sure you label your items to help the staff.

Once again I'm very greatful for all the help from the home and all the Staff.

Mum has been a resident at The Martlets since September 2024 and as a family we have been incredibly impressed with the level of care she has received. The staff are patient, understanding, and consistently attentive to all of Mum's complex needs as someone living with dementia.
The Martlets is a lovely home - bright, beautifully decorated, and featuring a large garden. The environment is spacious and thoughtfully designed, allowing residents to move about freely and safely. Residents enjoy activities and are taken out, which we really appreciate.
What stands out the most, though, is the people. All the managers and staff are exceptionally friendly, approachable, and professional. Every time we visit, we are made to feel welcome and supported. One staff member said to me, "This is Mum's home"-and that truly sums up how the place feels.

Thank you to everyone at The Martlets for the outstanding care and compassion you have shown to Mum and we would highly recommend The Martlets.

I have worked with Shaw Healthcare since 2005. I started my career as a carer and have been lucky enough to be developed into the Service Manager role I hold today. I have worked in many Shaw Healthcare homes across the region and have over 15 years of experience in the care field. I absolutely love my job!

We have an amazing team at The Martlets and we are very proud of our ‘Martlets Family’ culture. The Martlets provides a warm homely environment, with a caring, kind-hearted, compassionate skilled team of staff.

No two days are the same in care, but every day is rewarding in its own way. Seeing smiles on faces, hearing laughter through our home and being able to support people when they need it most is what makes it a pleasure to go to work, each and every day.

My name is Hayley I have worked for Shaw health care since 2007. My first role with Shaw was as a kitchen assistant when I was 17. My next role was as a care assistant when I turned 18.

At 25 I became a team leader and embraced the responsibility and oversaw that my staff promoted the best quality person-centred care for our residents the way we all wish our own loved ones would receive.

At 31 I was given the opportunity to progress further within the company and I now am privileged to be “The Martlets Deputy Manager.” We have a beautiful home here at The Martlets and are lucky to be situated right near the beach.

I am very proud to work at The Martlets we have a fantastic team and there is a wonderful energy about the home. Every day is a joy at The Martlets.

I have worked at The Martlets since Feb 2019, starting as a Bank Support Worker. I enjoyed it so much that I chose to join full time and then worked up into the Team Leader role in June 2021.
I find the team and residents alike to be fantastic. There is always laughter to be heard and my team and management are always really supportive.
In June 2022 I was nominated for a Shaw Star award in the Wellness, Happiness and Kindness Category and attended the Regional Awards Ceremony.

With Shaw being an employee owned company we as staff have more influence over change and also receive some nice bonuses, which is great!

Stephen ChurcherJob Title:AdministratorJoined: 2016

I am Steve, I have come from a predominantly retail background, from flipping burgers to stacking shelves to running my own stores.

After some deliberation and my staff saying that I would be good in care, in May 2016 I took the plunge into the world of care. Filled with trepidation, I started as a care worker at The Martlets and found it to be the most satisfying and rewarding job I have taken on. My favourite part was the ability to put a smile on our resident's faces and empower them to be as independent as possible.

2 years on and I was given the opportunity to become a Team Leader, which includes ensuring the timely administration of medication and liaising with medical professionals, to help promote the health and well-being of our residents.

2022 Presented an opportunity to work in Administration at the front of the house. This has enabled me to learn about the “back end” of care. Finances, Rota Management, Orders, admissions/discharges and most importantly taking relative calls and enquiries, liaising with all the teams of The Martlets to resolve these calls.

I am grateful to the current Martlets management for helping me progress within the home and would urge those thinking of working in care to take “The Plunge” just as I did!

I started at The Martlets in 2012 as a bank support worker following on from being made redundant as an apprentice hairdresser. From the moment I walked into the building I knew that care was the job for me and within days I applied to become a full-time career.

I loved my role, providing high-quality care to our residents and daily activities. In 2016 I took the plunge to apply for the team leader role that became available within The Martlets.

Becoming a team leader at 23 was a huge achievement for me, I had not long returned from maternity leave and was extremely proud of my achievements within the company.

In 2020 I was given the amazing opportunity of becoming The Martlets Deputy Manager, being part of The Martlets family since 2012 has developed my career in many ways, the knowledge and experience Shaw has given me is incredible. Watching The Martlets grow is an amazing opportunity and I am forever grateful for The Martlets.
