The commitment of all the staff is outstanding, they are kind, compassionate yet professional in their approach to the diverse needs of all residents. The management team are always ready to listen and act upon any concerns, and are keen to integrate residents and visitors.
The home cooked meals are nutritious and varied, with suitable choices available for all tastes. The home is kept spotlessly clean by established, friendly staff. Residents are given as much daily support as they need, whether independent or requiring more help. Activities to suit all residents are prepared by in-house staff, and visitors are encouraged to join in, with refreshments always on offer. Communal lounges can be busy or quiet, and the lovely garden with outdoor furniture is suitable for all levels of mobility.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We will pass your kind words along to the team. Thank you.
The lack of staff doing the activities at the weekends are disappointing.
Dear Faye, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We will pass your kind words along to the team. Thank you.
My Mother is the resident, she is always treated well, with dignity, care and kindness. The staff are excellent and they work well as a team as well as on their own. As a visitor, I am always treated well, nothing seems too much trouble and they nearly always know where Mum is, whether in her room or one of the lounges. At times it may appear they are short staffed, however, this would be due to other residents just needing a bit more care, or assistance. The food is great and enjoyed by Mum. I am very pleased with the choice we made to put Mum in this home
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We will pass your kind words along to the team. Thank you.
I have used Rookwood twice for respite and was surprised at the standard of all aspects of this care home, and it has very high standards in comparison to other establishments in West Sussex in which my mother and mother-in-law.
Hi Ann, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We will pass your kind words along to the team. Thank you.
Dad has been at Rookwood since November 2024 and we are so fortunate that there was space available as once he'd settled in and got used to not having to look after himself, he and we couldn't be happier!
Hi Richard, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We will pass your kind words along to the team. Thank you.
My mum settled in really quickly with the help of a wonderful care team. She was encouraged to participate in the daily activities which she really enjoys. There is always something going on, but you can choose to join in, rest or do your own thing. The care she receives is excellent. It is a relief for me to know that my mum is safe, well and happy.
Hi, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We will pass your kind words along to the team. Thank you.
I have been visiting almost a year now and found the staff very kind and friendly. Allways given refreshments and biscuits. I allways join in the activities with the residents which they like. I leave at Lunchtime so am able to see the food which is varied and nourishing and is when the medication is also handed out and the person is not to be disturbed while this is carried out. A very well run home.
Hi, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We will pass your kind words along to the team. Thank you.
My mum recently passed away peacefully after 15 months in Rookwood's excellent care. Her room was comfortable & very well suited to her needs, she loved the food & facilities (particularly the garden). Above all the team at Rookwood were fantastic in every respect, particularly the caring yet practical approach of Zoe, the manager.
Rookwood has been an amazing care home looking after both of my parents. When my father's needs became so he was unable to manage at home anymore I didn't hesitate to return to Rookwood where my mum had been cared for. The staff are wonderful - attention and caring, the home is cosy and clean. The food outstanding and the leadership faultless.
My mother has been a resident for over a year now. The staff have always treated her with kindness, respect and dignity. Nothing is too much. There are lots of planned activities and a lovely caring atmosphere. My mother is content and I am really happy that she is being so well cared for.
I cannot recommend Rookwood highly enough. The team responded very quickly to an emergency, where my mother had had a painful fall and needed round-the-clock care. My partner and I were heading away on holiday. Rookwood saved the day for us. Their care, professionalism, promptness and communication were 5-star. My mum looked so well and rested on her return home 18 days later. We were helped and guided through a very difficult phase and were able to go away knowing all was well.
The care and attention to detail is fantastic. The staff are caring and friendly, always polite to people and visitors offered tea/coffee in the afternoon.
My Mum moved to Rookwood in July this year following a fall in another care home, due to the care my Mum had received at her previous care home I was initially quite wary of care homes generally, but it soon became apparent to me that I didn't need to worry about my Mums care any longer. Rookwood is an exceptionally well-run care home, the staff are genuinely friendly and kind to their residents and both me and my family feel welcomed when visiting. The activities on offer are wonderful, with lots of variety and fun things going on. The staff is really bubbly and enthusiastic, with regular exercise sessions too, and a lovely resident-focused atmosphere. The food is great with several options for all three meals of the day, Rookwood is spotlessly clean, dining room is laid out beautifully. I have access to care notes, which is great, and also staff ring if there is anything out of the ordinary happening. Most importantly my Mum is very happy here and well cared for. This is a very good care home.
From our very first visit to view Rookwood with our uncle we have been very pleased with the ambience, facilities, management and welfare provided by the whole care home team. Rookwood's communal spaces, outdoor areas and garden are ideal for all the residents to use. A big thank you to the Rookwood team for making our uncle comfortable and content as a permanent Rookwood resident.
Our good friend was treated wonderfully. All staff were warm, friendly, kind and caring. Everywhere was extremely clean and as visitors, we always received a friendly welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and any queries were dealt with promptly by the management. The food was of great quality and delivered in an appetising way. I would have no hesitation recommending Rookwood to any friends or family.
There is a lovely garden, and the home is welcoming, clean and tidy. Good, traditional home-cooked food. We have peace of mind. Mum is well cared for and safe. We can visit when we like.
My mum stayed at Rookwood for just over two weeks whilst my partner and I were on holiday. We were made to feel very welcome at our initial visit and all questions were answered. Rookwood has a lovely homely feel and the staff are extremely caring and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them in helping Mum to settle in and feel as at home as possible, including helping her with her laptop so she could video call my sister in Canada.
My mum has now been a resident at Rookwood for nearly 2 years and did take a while to settle. I have been very pleased that over the last 12 months she has joined in with more activities during the day and socialising in the lounge too. Any concerns are listened to and acted upon by staff. Recently my mum has suffered some ill health and the care staff have been exceptional. I trust them completely with my mum's care and well-being. Thank you to the whole team.
My mother had a month of respite care at Rookwood. She was looked after extremely well. The staff were amazing with her. The facilities were excellent all the rooms are finished to a high standard. I highly recommend this care home.

Meet the Team (1)

“Welcome to Rookwood. We pride ourselves on offering something truly unique within our local community: we are the only care setting in the area dedicated exclusively to residential care.
As part of the South Coast Nursing Homes family - a dedicated, family-run company with over 60 years of experience and 8 sister homes - we combine the robust support of an established care provider with the personal feel of a boutique home. Since taking over as Registered Manager in 2023, my goal has been to preserve and nurture the unique magic of Rookwood.
Rookwood is a beautiful, characterful house. With our original flooring, striking staircase, and a peaceful garden maintained proudly by both staff and residents, Rookwood looks and feels like a proper home.
We are a close-knit, 25-bed home, which allows us to maintain an incredibly warm, safe, and familiar atmosphere. Because of our size, our residents’ families get to know one another, frequently joining us for activities, outings, and parties.
While we are a purely residential home, should a resident's needs change, our relationship with our sister nursing homes - combined with our shared electronic care and medication systems - means that a transition into nursing care is completely seamless and stress-free. We also benefit from a Group Clinical Lead, a visiting Care Home Matron, and a Nurse Lead for complex clinical decisions. Over my years here, I have fostered excellent relationships with our local multidisciplinary teams and community nurses, and we enjoy a weekly visit from our local GP to ensure prompt, effective care.
Location is everything, and Rookwood offers the best of both worlds. We are tucked away from the main road in a quiet, tranquil setting, yet we are located close to the main town with easy access to public transport. This allows several of our residents to enjoy visiting the local town independently, while making it incredibly convenient for loved ones to visit. We also ensure our residents remain an active, vital part of the wider community through regular charity fundraising, including supporting our local food bank.
The highest compliment we receive is that a vast number of our residents come to us via word-of-mouth recommendations, not just from past relatives, but from local community healthcare teams who trust us implicitly.
We invite you to come and experience Rookwood for yourself. Our doors are always open.”
